Disney Vacation Club is ever-expanding, they can barely seem to build new options fast enough and demand doesn't seem to be drying up. I don't think anyone is concerned that families are going to be canceling plans to come to WDW any time soon. DVC guests are all in, no matter what. And non-DVC aren't turning back either. In fact, room nights are at such a demand that Disney has recently chosen to pull back on convention business moving forward in key locations on property in order to keep rooms open for families vs. conference attendees. Conventions were initially a strategy to put heads-in-beds when beds were empty, and this is a clear sign that empty beds are not an issue these days.

High fives to UOR for keeping the bar raised and the pressure on though. As consumers we all benefit when the competition heats up.

your exactly right. we the consumer benefit from all this the most.

No, but Disney shouldn't be in the "once in a lifetime" business. Their money maker, DVC, requires them to have people keep coming. But people will see stale attractions and the word will get out and change public perception they've spent 60 years trying to cultivate. Disney is killing the future to make more in the present.

see this is where I think you're wrong. People love the Haunted mansion, Pirates, Small World, etc. In fact I think it's nostalgia that fuels a lot of enjoyment. We are a family that can just afford to go once or maybe twice a year, mainly because we live close, and have the ability to stay with family near the parks. My daughter (5) would be excited to ride a new state of the art attraction, but she is also just as excited to ride the old rides. My wife, actually prefers the old attractions. She's not really into "screens", she would prefer roller coasters any day of the week, and she still mentions her disappointment that the "penny arcade" is no longer on mainstreet. To her, she'd be happy if the parks never changed.

I agree that UOR is adding much needed competition, and adding really awesome rides and themed experiences, but that doesn't stop either of them from wanting to still go to Magic Kingdom or Disney Based on attendance levels, I don't think they are alone. In fact, I'd say they are the majority.

For every family that decided to go to UOR, there are another 10 (if not more) that are anxiously awaiting their next trip to ride Dumbo again.

No offense, rhino, but you're also in Disney's target demo right now. What's happening with a lot of families is that in 5 years, the kiddos and their parents are getting bored with Disney. When the question of "What else is there?" arises, that's when Universal swoops in. With Universal's roster of attractions and IPs getting stronger, the place with Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Minions, and Spider-Man is getting harder and harder to ignore.

No Offense taken...and I agree that a lot of families "out grow" Disney...however, it's not like people will stop having kids and bringing their children to Disney. Once my daughter rather go to see Harry Potter then Mickey, another family will take my place in line to meet Elsa. The cycle will continue.

I think the cost is the only real deterrent for parents. As Disney (and UOR) raise their prices year to year, they are just making a trip less and less affordable for middle class families, and almost impossible for lower class families to visit often.

They will stop raising prices if they think they need to but as long as the parks are crowded they couldn't care less if the lower middle class can't afford them. Face it, Disney nor Universal gives a crap about you, they only want your wallet (Disney a bit more obvious then Universal but stull). They would even be ok if the crowd level goes down as long as spending goes up.

Take it in mind that its going to take a while for Deconstruction so i'm not counting that until it goes vertical.

That being said, California will start work after January 10th.

Deconstruction is technically already taking place in DLR. Office buildings are already being moved. And the only very few things besides Indy will need to be "deconstructed" at DHS for SWL if they go into the parking lot as expected.

I expect that they more mean they will begin on building the DHS parking garages next year though more than anything as that is something that has to happen first.

What about Toy Story Land? Isn't that supposed to open first?

Before DHS construction can start the moving of areas has to happen first. This might be the delay in 11 or so months between the two projects.

Also, guys, it's not deconstruction, it's demolition.

Right. Deconstruction is taking something apart in a manner in which it can be reassembled. Demolition is

Breaking ground is pretty much when the shovel hits the dirt. Disney will likely make it known with some PR stunt as they did with Avatar...

Lee over at Magic said Late 2017 for TSL... Martin, who is well respected, was willing to say Late 2016-Early 2017.

It's really not a tough build. The demo and prep work will take the most time tbh.

It's widely rumored that as soon as the new fiscal year starts on 10/1, the project is going to kick into high gear, as that's when the funding becomes available and they want this done ASAP.
