I'm hearing operations has put a lot of pressure on the powers that be to compress the project timelines because the park is in such miserable shape capacity wise. Everything is being moved up. SWL@D23 was said to break ground in 2017. A month later is has become 2016.

I hope the rumors of the additional entertainment were true. Is the third track for Toy Story Mania not opening until 2016 either?

Not saying that that isn't true in most cases recently, but the recent change in strategy in announcing Kong, F&F, Nintendo and Volcano Bay well before their opening dates says that trend is starting to change.

I'd bet a Fallon announcement isn't too far behind as well.

Both Kong and Volcano Bay were under construction when they announced them. Nintendo announced the partnership. F&F and Hulk were strategic to counter D23.

Uni doesn't have a specific rule on announcements, and to be honest a lot of them are forced and awkward like Hollywood's Potter and Gringott's opening announcement, "I'm glad you could be here today at this grand event to announce that it opens in three weeks.....maybe."

I understand they were under-construction, but they still had at least a year to go in Kong's case and 2 in VB's case. the person I quoted was saying how they build the entire thing and announce it last minute.

I really don't care how they do it as long as it gets done. Announcements are all done by marketing anyway, it's about timing and when it's advantageous to do so.

well now that Disney has announced SW Land and TS Land..do you think the parks overall attendance will dip due to people "waiting" to visit until the new projects are complete?

I would think the park's overall attendance will start to dip since there's not many attractions left and park capacity is so low that the remaining attractions have long lines, regardless of the attendance. And comments like the Unofficial Disney Guide that recommend not going to the park will multiply.

I think it will dip some, but having the multi-day (5 day) tickets that a huge number of people purchase, I dont see it going down too much. The Magic Kingdom is what brings them in, and since they have the tickets, might as well go to DHS even if its just to ride the few that are there.

At the very least, no Osborne lights is going to hurt big time next year for DHS.

OK. I'll take the bait. Of what do you speak? Is Universal doing a new Xmas decoration thing or show?

I assume this means some new Holiday addition for next year? Or the new parade? whatever it is, hopefully it will be a nighttime offering.

And it wasn't too hard to read Disney's mind on this honestly. The lights have been on life support for 2 years now at least (same for Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, which will be history much sooner than later).

While this is getting a bit off topic now, I do expect that DHS will have some sort of new Holiday festivities next year. Whether it be in the form of just extra decorations or the more likely, something themed to frozen and a holiday fireworks show.

Management will continue to rely on seasonal events for the next few years of hell in order to just get by and con people into walking through those gates.

see this is where I think you're wrong. People love the Haunted mansion, Pirates, Small World, etc. In fact I think it's nostalgia that fuels a lot of enjoyment. We are a family that can just afford to go once or maybe twice a year, mainly because we live close, and have the ability to stay with family near the parks. My daughter (5) would be excited to ride a new state of the art attraction, but she is also just as excited to ride the old rides. My wife, actually prefers the old attractions. She's not really into "screens", she would prefer roller coasters any day of the week, and she still mentions her disappointment that the "penny arcade" is no longer on mainstreet. To her, she'd be happy if the parks never changed.

I agree that UOR is adding much needed competition, and adding really awesome rides and themed experiences, but that doesn't stop either of them from wanting to still go to Magic Kingdom or Disney Based on attendance levels, I don't think they are alone. In fact, I'd say they are the majority.

For every family that decided to go to UOR, there are another 10 (if not more) that are anxiously awaiting their next trip to ride Dumbo again.

This. I have heard from people that they don't like Universal because they took all the classic rides out. And when they go to Disney they love the classic rides. Different people think different ways. That is why Disney will always get business even if other people hate them.

No one is suggesting people will stop going to Disney. People worry that Disney will only become a stagnate collection of parks designed for the twice a lifetime trips with kids or DVC owners.

Well the people I know come way more than twice a lifetime. Some have kids, some don't, and some are elderly. No one outside of this board has ever told me that Disney is stagnant and that they have any plans of slowing down their trips. I also have talked to a ton of people in the park and have never had one person have a negative thing to say about the parks or how there is nothing new.

I hear way more negative thing about Universal. Now am I saying I agree with what I hear? No. But I am just saying what the general non-theme park nerds are saying and thinking.

Yeah I know, I should have better defined that by people I mean people in the community. Not just ours. Like all fanatical groups, we are the minority. But also we can be a good barometer at the same time.

But is that the general public? I'd trust Disney and Universals data more (depending on the quality of the surveys but that's another discussion for another time...)
