It's really not a tough build. The demo and prep work will take the most time tbh.

It's widely rumored that as soon as the new fiscal year starts on 10/1, the project is going to kick into high gear, as that's when the funding becomes available and they want this done ASAP.

then permits should be turning up quickly

All I'll say about this is Iger also said Avatar would open in 2015 shortly after the land was announced. Believe nothing until it starts

Today's announcement of the end of Osborne Lights may possibly indicate they will be using the SOA area for Star Wars Land expansion instead of the Echo Lake area many Magic insiders were speculating. Interesting that this comes on the heels of Stagg's announcement. I'm guessing they may have moved up the entire schedule. Especially in light of the D23 time frame announcement that Star Wars would break ground in 2017. Just my opinion though, I'm not an insider by any means.

For the Sparrow/OMD building demo definitely. The basic backstage stuff may not need permits however.

Avatar was in the Pre-Blue sky phase when it was announced. This is a bit different as far as i'm concerned.

I'm hearing operations has put a lot of pressure on the powers that be to compress the project timelines because the park is in such miserable shape capacity wise. Everything is being moved up. SWL@D23 was said to break ground in 2017. A month later is has become 2016.

Not surprised, just worried on how long it'll take from breaking ground to completion.

:agree:Your comment makes the most sense, especially after the year earlier change stated by Staggs & todays' Osborne lights announcement. Seems like plans are in a state of flux and just changed from only a month ago.

I think it is safe to say that nobody knows what is actually going on, including and especially Disney.

the sooner the better. If Cedar Point can build a giant roller coaster in the span of winter, Disney can build the slinky dog coaster and a few carnival rides too.

Apples and oranges. A roller coaster is pretty much just bolt together and done. It takes more time to build the station and do wiring than it does to bolt all of the track together. If there is any theming to TSL(there is), it would take much longer to build.

It's not the coaster that takes time.

It's the story that takes time. We all know how good of a story coaster Slinky will be!

To be fair though. This project doesn't look all that complex. And most of the theming is set pieces that will be pre-fabricated and bolted into place. This project will move pretty quickly after the demolition is done.

Agreed, it should be done fairly quickly compared to what WDW has been seeing lately.
