The ride has aged a lot in the past 10 years. The new update is coming right on time. However, I don't get plotholes issues you have because I never really noticed any of great significance.

I don't remember any plot holes. The ride doesn't match with the movie but the ride itself makes scence. The last time I rode it it still had the joy that it has had for years.

If we're going to Endor, why would we not GO TO ENDOR? I see the whole "missing the planet" thing, but why would we then follow the rebel army into the trench in the Death Star? We're a tour!!! Then we don't even wind up at Endor. We're right back where we started.

Almost as bad as ROTM.

We follow the Rebel Army because the Rebel Army tell Rex to follow them.

Why are we complaining about plotholes on a theme park ride? I don't remember the last time anyone complained about the plot of JPRA.

We followed the rebels into the trench because we were scared SO MUCH. If you were in a spaceship and were suddenly surrounded by the evil space empire's fleet, wouldn't YOU follow the good rebels that are equipped to the teeth with weapons and ace fighter pilots? Makes sense to me.

The story. Your pilot is bad and you see that from the beginning. You then miss the moon of Endor because of it and end up caught in field of comets sending you farther off course and ending up at the death star. You then follow the army in hopes of protection and because Rex has always wanted to fly through a giant space station of death. Then you end back at the station because Rex has just given up at taking you to Endor.

I've been on this ride once over 10 years ago and the memories are vivid...but it was awesome! They can't go wrong really. I just wish they would expand upon the area for a great dark ride...oh well.

Um, once I got out of the comet field, I'd go back in to hyperspace...

It's a faulty droid. If you look at Rex, there is a little piece of tape that is dangling off of him saying "Please remove before flight". And once you got out of the Comet Field, Rex says he's getting ready to turn around before he gets caught off-guard by a tractor beam.

I hope the good detailed parts of the attraction like the programing tape remains once they change everything over. The guilty pleasure part of me hope they keep and work with the Paul Ruebans recordings.

It is all too funny and appropriate he is back in spotlights with the return Pee Wee stage shows.

Apparently Baxter confirmed that we will have multiple destinations in the new star tours attraction. Only time will tell. As for when it goes down, I would guess shortly after star wars weekends would be a target date.

I have to get back to Disney one day lol. I haven't been there in since 2003...and I only stayed at Disney there for a few hours because our hotel was in Universal Resort. I can't wait to hear more details on this ride because I remember it being one of my favorites back in 2000 when I was 6 lol. Maybe they'll upgrade the queue and everything too!

To answer the question on when the current Star Tours ride will go down for good: I heard an interview with Steve Sansweet (Director of Fan Relations for Lucasfilm) where he implied that the week following Star Wars Celebration V (happening in Orlando August 12-15, 2010) would be the final days of Star Tours I. The implication is that Disney is working in conjunction with Celebration V to capture the business of 30,000 Star Wars fans who will be in Orlando by offering them the chance to be the last ones to ride it before it goes down, since the only thing he would say is that he recommends that SW fans booking vacations that week should book additional days following Celebration to visit the parks.

Bumping this old thread with an interview with Tony Baxter:
EndorExpress: Right. Cutting to the chase now, any update on Star Tours 2 coming up?

Baxter: Well, it’s coming up!

EndorExpress: It’s coming up and is 2011 still the launch?

Baxter: This year we will be closing the current show and there’ll probably be an announcement about that – and yeah, sometime in mid 2011.

EndorExpress: And it will be a 3D event as well?

Baxter: Yeah, it’s awesome, you’ll be able to go on it a million times without seeing all the stuff that we’ve put in there, yeah.

EndorExpress: So are you saying that there will be variables like in the Indiana Jones Adventure?

Baxter: It’s going to have a lot of you know, things. …Surprises.

EndorExpress: Different destinations?

Baxter: Well. There are a lot of places to go in the universe. [Laughs]

By the sound of it, we are going to have multiple storylines/experiences.

Also, a photo with storyboards for Star Tours 2 has been posted over at WDWMagic here.

From that pic of the storyboards, if I'm not mistaken, I can make out Dagobah (Yoda's swamp world), Naboo (the JarJar planet), and possibly Endor (or that's just more of Naboo).

As far as the multiple storylines --- I'm pretty sure that's been confirmed. I think I even read a number at some point of 25 different beginning, 25 middle, and 25 end sequences. Not sure though if the sequences will be somehow chosen by the riders, or if its a random experience each time?

And the 'announcement' Baxter is referring too should be the announcement that the week following Celebration V (August) will be the last chance to ride the current version.
