Supposedly they have no intention of porting Rare Replay, since a fair amount of games on there are just the unmodified 360 version of games that are booted up separately. It seems they don't want to do the work to get all those games to run natively for the sake of multi-platform versions.

Bummer as I’d be willing to try them for the cheap price of the whole package.

I guess I’ll just keep hoping for Banjo Remakes from Vicarious Visions/Toys for Bob now that Microsoft owns them. Maybe Conker too? Nintendo versions would be pretty much guaranteed since they’d be losing a lot of potential sales from not having them there. I haven’t played the original versions but at this point I’m willing to wait since there’s plenty of other games I want to play.

I really wonder how Halo is factored here. I can see the potential of going multiplatform with Halo—especially with them wanting to make it a brand with stuff like the Paramount Plus original series.

I think they’d start with full remakes of the original Bungie games since those are the best received and keep new Halo games exclusive but that’s just me.

While the remasters do look quite good for how old they are, I wouldn’t rule out a remake project surrounding that trilogy in the coming years.

So in a series of bombshells on XBOX today, by XBOXEra and The Verge--XBOX will be making plans going forward to have multiple titles release on competitors.

Hi-Fi Rush is expected to be announced and dropped in a matter of leaks, with the official details on how XBOX will release specific titles going forward in the coming months (potentially April). Starfield is also getting a PS5 release once the expansion is out for XBOX and PC.

Additionally--the extent of consideration has also included Indiana Jones and The Great Circle to potentially come to PS5 after a exclusivity period of time.

I mean, I guess if they are essentially giving away games day 1 on Gamepass, this gives them a way to purely profit off of some of these games while still keeping Gamepass subscribers. That’s gotta be the play, right?

Hopefully the Switch 2 is enough to handle Indy. The Doom and Wolfenstein games came to the original after all. I’m sure Panic Button is up to the task.

Adding additional backing: Jeff Grubb is hearing that Gears of War is being considered for the PS5. One of the core IP's, is potentially going multiplatform.

While all of this is interesting a thought just came to me. Do we really want Sony to not have a direct competitor anymore? Monopolies aren’t very good for the consumer after all.

I will be making a list as part of this--but this is expected to be expanded and properly announced next week (but the methods on how it will be announced is unclear).

The list is as potentially followed:

  • Hi-Fi Rush = To be Announced in the coming weeks, for Nintendo Switch and PS5. Dataleaks have already suggested specific shirts that will be exclusive for the Nintendo and PS5 versions.
  • Starfield = As Reported by XBOXEra, Starfield will be hitting the PS5 after the launch of the upcoming Expansion for the title. Nate The Hate has colloborated on Starfield as-well.
  • Sea of Thieves = Leaked alongside Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves is expected to be released on Nintendo Switch and PS5. Has been colloborated on by Stephen Totillo
  • Halo = Internal hirings have suggested the next Halo Game will be releasing for all mainline platforms--with the tagline of "For All Players--For All Platforms."
  • Gears of War = Jeff Grubb has mentioned that Gears of War is being considered in consideration for the PS5
  • Indiana Jones & The Dial of Destiny = As reported by Tom Warren, The Dial of Destiny is being considered for PS5, to be released shortly after the XBOX and PC release in December.

I mean, if the thing launches in November the original Switch would still be the “main business” for 10 months of the year.

Nintendo president says current Switch will be Nintendo’s “main business” in 2024

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has said in a conference call after the earnings report that the current Nintendo Switch will be the company’s main business for 2024. This comes after speculation…

An Xbox Switch in addition to Xbox games going to other consoles…

Next Generation Xbox to Launch in Two SKUs; Cheaper SKU Will Be a Dockable Handheld Capable of Playing Games Natively

I’m trying to wrap my head around what their strategy is at this point. The Switch’s success isn’t just because of the concept of the console, it’s the exclusive games that have sold like crazy with 9 of the top 10 sold all being 20 million +. Handhelds don’t just sell on their own and all you need for proof is the last generation of the 3DS and Vita. The Vita tried to sell itself on the same “home console quality on the go” conceit of the Switch but lacked the games to back it up and failed miserably. The 3DS might have had a turnaround but overall it still disappointed compared to Nintendo’s other handhelds. Its numbers are only a little lower than the GBA but when you consider the GBA was on the market for a shorter timeframe before the DS took over it paints a much less rosy picture.

I guess throwing money at the wall is just one of those luxuries of being a 3 Trillion Dollar Company /shrug

Edit: another thing to add, any Xbox games that go to Steam on PC could be playable on the Steam Deck making a dedicated Xbox handheld even more useless.

Their existing strategy… playing the game with Sony and losing for the past decade, has not been going well. So they’re changing up.

Hardware is not their major concern anyway, it’s merely a vehicle to buy games. So what it seems like they are doing since Gamepass has hit a saturation point In subscribers as well is just focusing on selling their software.

Big titles will probably be Xbox exclusive for 12-24 months, but then they can go to Sony and Nintendo and they have another bite at the apple in terms of selling games that used to be exclusive. That doesn’t mean they won’t make hardware, it just means it’s a very low priority versus software which is way easier to profit from.

Luke Stephens said it very well in that playing the first party exclusive game has been a bad strategy. Sony has Studios like Santa Monica, Naughty Dog, Insomniac, etc and every time they’re ready to release a game it will probably be in GOTY conversation. Microsoft, even through all of their acquisitions, doesn’t have that lined up for them like that to where focusing on first party exclusivity makes complete sense anymore.

I agree but my post was about the rumor of new hardware including a Switch like device. If they’re moving exclusives to other platforms, what’s the point of making this? It’s just going to fail in the market.

Because they aren’t stopping making hardware. Indiana Jones for example won’t be on PS5 Day 1. Halo 7 (whenever that happens) won’t be on PS6 on Day 1. There will be an exclusivity period. The devices will likely be cheaper and less will be made, assuring that they aren’t falling into a money pit with new hardware, but it’s worth testing out if there’s an appetite for an Xbox handheld. It certainly can’t be any worse than the new PS one considering that’s cloud gaming only.

Microsoft’s new strategy mostly though seems to be that they don’t care what box or handheld you are using to play their games as long as you’re playing their games.

The market didn’t even want a PlayStation handheld the last time one released. Phil Spencer has flat out stated they’ve lost the hardware race and that their games aren’t appealing enough. What makes them think they can put out a successful handheld lol. They don’t have the same clout as Valve with the Steam Deck and even then that seems to be a more specialty item that’s not even sold at typical retail.

I guess I just don’t get it.
