I think it's most likely a game that hasn't gotten a remake yet. The Oracle games or Minish Cap seem like good candidates. We could also see them bring the existing Wind Waker or Twilight Princess HD versions over.
Those would be good too but I just really want Ocarina in HD, even if it’s the 3DS version coming like what they’re doing with Luigi’s Mansion 2.

I could see OoT, Majora 3D, or Twilight, Waker HD being shadowdropped a la Pikmin 1/2 or Metroid Prime. If Gamecube is the pattern, then technically either of the Wii U HD Remakes would make for good calls!

Now that I’ve played the demo I know exactly what game they should make. A spinoff where you play as Sheik/Zelda at some point during the 7 years where Link is sealed away in OoT.

At this point I think it’s undeniable that the Switch 2 is coming. We’re smack dab in the middle of that all too familiar news cycle that comes before every single console launch whether it be Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft. We always know when the next generation is coming these days.

Also it’s good to hear I might not have any trouble securing my preorder.

Switch 2 needs huge upgrades to the joy cons and performance to be worth it

It most likely will. Power wise I’ve seen rumors range from PS4 to Xbox Series S. It is still a handheld after all and Nintendo is going to want it to be affordable. PS4 level power used to be a bit disappointing to me, then I remembered what games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and TLoU Part 2 look like. I also remembered Horizon 2 and GoW: R still have PS4 versions and how they look.

At least for me, I’ll be good.

Edit: I’ve also heard from people that know about tech that even if the Switch 2 is comparable to a PS4, it’ll still have more modern components that’ll help it punch a little bit above its weight with modern games being able to more easily scale down. This helped out the original Switch as well.

As long as it's a 2D sidescroller.

True. I still don’t need a switch since my steam deck plays switch games better. Which to me is pretty wild but technology for switch emulation is rapidly moving now after dolphin is pretty stable now

So I just stumbled on this. This guy worked at MercurySteam on Samus Returns and has a bunch of the models he worked on up here. Honestly, they look good enough that a Samus Returns HD should be a pretty simple job.
If I were Nintendo I’d have that lined up for the Switch and Prime 4 as a Switch 2 exclusive. Prime 2 & 3 Remastered would also be for the original Switch whenever those could be ready. Of course I’d also want the Switch 2 to be backwards compatible so people could play these remasters on the new hardware.

Given that Prime 4 was announced as a Switch game, I imagine it will still release for the system. Breath of The Wild was handled similarly with its release on Wii U, and Nintendo had a lot less to gain from going through with that.

Prime 4 was also restarted completely by Retro Studios in January 2019. It’s entirely possible that Nintendo was already floating the general idea of what the successor to the Switch would be capable of to their internal teams. Prime 4 could’ve easily been seen as a good way to showcase the new system. It’s been 5 years since the announcement of its restart and we haven’t had even a teaser. One logical reason for that is that the hardware it’s releasing for hasn’t yet been revealed to the public.

Think of it less like BotW and more like the next 3D Mario, another game that’s likely a Switch 2 exclusive since this October it’ll be 7 years since Odyssey.

Edit: here’s another game known for jumping platforms.
Announced in 2009 for PS3, released in 2015 for PS4.

Nintendo Direct rumored for next week.
I won’t expect anything big from this beyond a small tease at the absolute most. My expectations are firmly set at more firm dates for TTYD Remake and LM2HD. Maybe some more surprise remasters and remakes (Prime 2 and/or Samus Returns?), some third party and indie stuff, but that’s it. I can’t imagine some kind of big hitter surprise. I think Mario Wonder was the last huge Switch release.

This would be a great time to bring over the Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD remasters from Wii U that people have been begging to get for ages.

If they’re sold separately I’d probably just get Twilight Princess since I’ve never played it compared to Wind Waker which I did play on Wii U. I’ve double dipped on other games (and plan to double dip on Luigi’s Mansion 2 lol) but when it comes to Zelda I REEEEEEEALLY need to get back to Tears of the Kingdom. I also have a backlog to get through that includes the Link’s Awakening remake.

Other than that, I still want an HD conversion of the 3DS Remake of OoT. That or they go all out on a ground up remake for the Switch 2

Gonna guess this for Direct

- Paper Mario launches in April
- Luigi’s Mansion 2HD launches in July
- Fire Emblem 4 Echoes launches in Early June
- Metroid Prime 4 launches in September
- No Switch 2

I’d move Prime 4 to November because whether it’s a dual release on both or exclusive to the Switch 2 it would be out on launch day which is more likely to be in November if it’s late in the year.

The Switch has sold just under 140 million and Mario Kart 8 has crossed 60 million, it’s nearing 70 when you consider the 8 or so million of the Wii U version.

I think 152 million at least to beat the PS2 is a given at this point especially if a price drop comes post Switch 2. Speaking of which, I posted this in the console gaming thread but it’s also relevant here.
If the Switch 2 comes in November like I think it will, that’s 10 months of the OG being the “main business.” You can’t take these things at face value. Remember how the DS was supposed to be a “third pillar” and not the replacement for the GBA? Remember how the Switch wouldn’t replace the 3DS? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Edit: Mario Wonder pulling 12 million is impressive and expected. It sold like crazy at the store I work in.

Also while 20 million is nothing to sneeze at it’s kind of shocking how much and how quickly Tears of the Kingdom dropped off. For the sales ending June 30th it was at 18.51 million.
Ending December 31st, it’s at 20.28 million. Over 6 months it only sold an additional 1.77 million including the holiday period?
