It was the first one in Florida though if we're looking for a comparison. The difference from the first to the second is going to be leaps and bound different.

Actually Crush N Gusher was the second. Adventure Landing near Jacksonville Beach has an uphill water coaster...close to the same size as one of the CnG slides.

The hydromagnetic water coasters are quite a technological marvel though. They're fun, fast, and highly innovative. I'm really excited to see where water slide manufacturers take things from here.

  • Functional mat racer: A mat for use in water rides that can be equipped with lights, a screen and audio to enhance the overall experience. Lights could be used to illuminate the riders' path or light up the water beneath them to help set the environment they are in. In addition, the light could be a black light that activates when a guest is in a darker part of the ride to illuminate hidden features on walls. Also, the mats could come with display and audio elements that could "show images of other riders in the ride experiencing a thrilling section further along in the ride while a speaker may play captured audio from those riders to build anticipation," said the patent. The patent also states the ride could play music or have a light theme (like holiday colors) the rider chooses before the ride and have their choices saved to a "park identification bracelet" — say like Volcano Bay's TapuTapu bracelets — and the ride will be able to read the guests' bracelets and configure the ride to their choices. The ride then can sync the musical choice so the lights and ride features follow the tempo of the music.

I think there is a lot of potential here and the systems all seem to be in place to see this at Volcano Bay. There are several mat slides plus with guests not needing to carry the mats to the top and going up a conveyor belt, it gives ample time to charge the batteries to make this work.

Another thing that no one paid attention to that is actually horrifying...drop tanks that trap you and fill with water while you wait to drop

That and the style that patent drawings are done in. It is so 1910. I wonder what the style is called.

Moreso I think someone was bored and doodled a show element.

I've been in a drop tube that "filled" with water because of how the jets and the floor worked, but it was moreso the system to keep the slide wet than any attempt at a show thing. It got to your ankles before the tube dropped you.

This line from the patent is eyebrow-raising: "Rider may be a newly-converted vampire and the fluid may be dyed to resemble blood."

Made me think if they ever went there probably would be for a one-time HHN cross-over to VB? They crossed over to IOA a long time ago, right?

To go back to the mat racer patent, I am going to be surprised that it doesn't come around when the park opens. It makes so much sense, as it could be a prime example of using the Tapu Tapu technology in the best way.

YES, sign me up! That actually sounds a lot less uncomfortable than a normal drop slide.
