Interesting question. I mean, it’s a great park but I can’t lie and say I didn’t feel slightly underwhelmed (and betrayed by my own expectations tbh) that it wasn’t “perfect.”

In terms of concrete ideas, I think it’s pretty clear the park needs more capacity in the form of more meaningfully important rides. Less off-the-shelf rides, more things in the vein of Monsters and Mario Kart.

But in a more conceptual sense, what I think Epic Universe is lacking is thoughtfulness. Everything looks amazing which is undoubtedly a function of the time and money thrown at it. But there’s no cleverness to match.

Mario Kart—goes to (what I imagine are) great lengths to develop this AR tech. But it’s just used to project little ghosts floating in undefined space in front of you.

Monsters—takes animatronic usage to the next level but positions them all in large warehouse rooms or little vignettes without much of a connective tissue between everything.

Werewolf—an admittedly fun roller coaster, but how does spinning complement the idea of a werewolf forest?

Helios—great-looking pool area with no regard given to its orientation toward a massive black warehouse.

Wizarding World Paris—incredible scale, scope, and attention to detail…all serving a lot of empty facades, a confusing and undercooked concept, and not much to tie into the overall Potter universe.

To me, it seems like all of the money and time afforded to the park robbed it of some ingenuity that more resource-constrained projects are forced to come up with. Look at Forbidden Journey, arguably the best of the Potter attractions while also the cheapest to build—it started with wanting to replicate a lot of the Potter iconography in a meaningful way and all the tech and tricks developed around that. Meanwhile, you’ve got Battle for the Ministry as this weird mix of ideas that don’t really mesh at all, but just kind of exist because they could. We’ve got these big boxy elevator vehicles that offer nothing new in terms of ride experience, but hey it’s technically new so we’re supposed to be impressed by it, right?

In other words, there’s a lot of “look what we can do!” vs. “look at this story we want to tell.”

I’d love for the next expansions to Epic focus more on how to creatively deliver new experiences instead of trying to show off how much more “Diagon Alley-ness” Universal is capable of.

Seems like Creatives at both Disney and Universal fall in love with super high tech. There are plusses to that, but also a lot of negatives,
many probably unnecessary. Unfortunately, reliability really suffers with breakdowns that often linger for many months/years. And, capacity
is often sacrificed........Sometimes simpler is better.

I wish they put more emphasis on elevation changes across the park. Yes, Nintendo land is 2 stories tall, but I’m talking about massive land structures, like the Volcano at DisneySea. The flatness is very apparent when you’re in a room or the roof of Helios Grand

And to me this is why Berk stands out so much. It at least feels the most story driven of the themed areas in the park.

To be fair, this example is more the fault of the Japan team rather than Epic Universe’s.

In a perfect world, we would have gotten a rockwork/cliff face on the northern/Stardust side of Isle of Berk to help hide some of the Backstage areas from Hiccup's and the land. I don't mind seeing Stardust in the distance, but those back of house areas are ugly.

I also would have preferred more rockwork throughout Celestial Park. That front area by the Chronos is absolutely beautiful, but I wish the elevation changes there along with the waterfalls continued throughout the rest of Celestial Park.

Capacity

I'm seeing most rides at the park eat up less then 1000 people an hour...if true.

I have no idea what they were thinking, Like one or two fine but you need people eaters or else you either have very unhappy guests or you can't sell as many tickets

Also while the shows look amazing, I hear they can be closed all day and...I'm sorry when you only have 3ish live shows you need those to be running to both eat people but also literally give people the entertainment promised

I know if I went on a good day, I'd love the park but it needs lots of work

More indoor experiences and attractions. There is an art to theme parks having varied experiences, and it just feels like Epic lacks that. It needs walk a through. A high capacity chill boat ride. Smaller scale dark rides.

Stuff that fills in the roster, with good capacity, but isn’t a massive E-Ticket+.

Right now it feels like a park of headliners, and flat rides.

One of the largest complaints about the park is stairs. How would they solve that issue? Also what other parks have this elevation changes? They're all kinda just flat for easy traversal, parades, etc.

It was my main concern years ago as we started to understand what the park was going to be. I'm sure they'll find solutions to downtime... but even then with everything running at 99.9% theoretical capacity... it's nowhere near enough to handle sizeable crowds.

SNW is a perfect example.

Sure they filled in with minigames… but they could have treated it like their version of a fantasyland, and filled it with small, cute dark rides. It’s like the perfect IP to build out little dark rides from.

“Toad’s Very Scary Day”

“Paper Mario - Oh no it rained!”

“Rosalina’s Galaxy Flight”

I know this is meant to be the "perfect" version, but if we're being aggressively practical, the quickest and easiest way to band-aid some of Epic's now-apparent issues is throwing in a nice flat or three. This gives guests more to do and pads both the overall ride count and the rides-per-day guest average.

I'd suggest a Diddy Kong aerial flight flat (i.e. Dumbo) in Donkey Kong Country and a lavish chair swing themed to the Celestials/seasons/elements in Celestial Park. Dark Universe and Ministry are less conducive to flats, and Berk already has one, so anything else approximating or simulating flight is redundant.

Longer term? Potter needs its second cut ride - not the VR broomstick thing, but ideally an easygoing dark ride. I know we're through with Fantastic Beasts, but a Newt Suitcase Adventure would be pretty evergreen and not cost a fortune. Dark Universe needs a third ride, whether that involves atomic age monsters or something else. Berk's probably fine for the moment. Nintendo will presumably either get Luigi's Mansion or a Zelda subarea down the road, and either of those expansions should focus on indoor attractions. If Oz ends up getting a portal, it needs to come with at least three attractions, even if one of them is on the smaller side.

Yeah that's why high tech rides like monsters unchained or Mario kart break down sooooo much
