Universal Installs LED Lights Outside AMC Cinemas
Universal Orlando is really attentive to details, and this is noticeable by seeing the level of theming of their attractions (especially at Islands of Adventure, which is constantly nominated as one of the best theme parks on the planet for its theming and attractions). Recently, Universal's Show Quality Team has worked on a project that may see minor, but that is certainly very important, as it refers to one of the first structures guests see when they enter CityWalk: The AMC Theater's Circular atrium. Here's what they did:
UNIVERSAL'S CITYWALK ENHANCEMENT
The [Universal Orlando] Show Quality team has been addressing improvements in both parks [and CityWalk] all year... One of largest projects that the team completed in 2011 was reinventing the circular structure or “drum” on the second level of the AMC Universal Cineplex 20. The Show Quality team worked to enhance the drum, by
repainting the structure and adding a
new LED high-tech lighting system that saves approximately 12,000 kilowatts of power. The multi-colored lights can be
programmed to coincide with music for a dazzling show. “This project was a huge undertaking and was a very long process due to the location of work. It took a team effort to pull this off with little impact to our guests,” says Scott Lewis, Manager of Show Quality. Much of the Show Quality team’s efforts could not be possible without the help from the different departments within Technical Services. “The project required many internal and external partnerships and support from our Operations team which made it possible.” The new CityWalk drum can easily be seen from I-4 and is a shining example of this team’s impact.
As you have read, the exterior of Universal's AMC Theaters now has incredible lights that can put on a show, even dancing along with the surrounding music! This finally explains the big machine that has been in the middle of the AMC Cinemas Plaza for many months, back in 2011 (
photos of that can be found here)...
