Final season to run for 8 episodes:

And an interesting observation was made, which I'd say is a hint towards another split into two volumes:

If they're going that way, I hope it's similar to the five(ish) week break, and not something longer.

At the very least that. They're about to say goodbye to their biggest show ever. Going to need to stretch that to get two months of subscriptions out of people. The two halves of Ozark's final season were separated by 3 months to prop two financial quarters.

I'll take that bet.

In all seriousness--not a lot to go with, but I am wondering why they'd want to have the final episode be standalone. Maybe it's gonna be the one episode that goes full "Film" release mode?

Also got an official plot synopsis:

"The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time"

I hate that release strategy. Those holidays are already busy enough for most people.

Ehhh...I think it's going to depend on how things shake out with the current Six Flags deal.

I think dropping this on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and NYE is pretentious AF. I doubt I will be watching this on any of those dates, i.e. when I'm with my family and they could care less about Stranger Things.

they did it so you have to subscribe two months instead of one to watch it all without being spoiled

But they could have picked any random set of days across two separate months, not three* of the busiest days of the year where they will be competing with travel, family engagements, parties, and other major entertainment options.

*One is technically the night before Thanksgiving, but that still tends to be a very busy time.

In defense of the release strategy, this will be a time when many families will be together, allowing for communal watch parties where everyone can enjoy it with their loved ones.

Yeah, I don’t get the consternation about this. Isn’t this a time when families often hang out and watch movies or tv together? You don’t have to watch these episodes the second they drop, and if these holidays are so sacred to you… might be a good time to stay off social media too, right?

Eh I think they’ll be too busy arguing over politics and stuffing themselves with turkey to care about watching it.

But seriously though I just don’t see families gathered around every holiday to watch Stranger Things.
