I think it's far from generic, has everything the fans want and more. Rather have this than a separation of every planet in a pavilion style. Way more convenient and interesting

Basically a trackless dark ride that puts you in a battle between Stormtroopers and the Rebels.

I like how painterly this concept art looks, as opposed to some of the more recent concept art I've seen from Disney which can be a bit flat and cartoony. I wonder who does the art? Is it in-house? Someone who works for Imagineering? Contracted out? Lucas Film? I'd really love to find out the artist's name also.

Yeah, I was wondering this the other day about UC's final previz paintings. UC's are definitely freelance or/and work for some other firm. I also wondered how they were created... on zoom, they appear layered, as if combo applied and digital.

Regarding Star Wars, I would really bet that it is one of the top concept painters in Hollywood. He or she is likely a freelancer who lives in Arizona or Montana... somewhere esoteric like that.

Yeah, most of the more contemporary concept art for theme parks seems to be a mix of digital painting, photo-collage, and CG imagery.

I can totally picture this theoretical concept artist who lives out West where the 'sky is big' and the 'light is pure'. I like to think he/she has lots of wind-chimes and metal sculptures in the front yard.

Even MM has plenty of screens. The real question is 3D or not 3D?

I have to say I'm excited for this but it's probably going to take forever, before I get to see it come to life.

I first didn't get it, I thought they would use a planet/location from the new movies, preferably one with more depth then the usual (stunning) exterieurs. But I guess that is exactly why they had to go these route, creating a new realm that could work as a patchwork to incorporate familiar details but they will be out of context. As a fan of the movie I'm partially disappointed. I Would love to walk in the sand of Tatooni, walk the freeze room of the Death Star and have dinner at Cloud City. It's now up to imagineering to turn this in a beautiful patchwork or a Frankensteins monster.

This is honestly the best idea they could've come up with. All of the action takes place on different planets, yet none of them are really too fleshed out (at least enough for a full, 14-acre land). So creating this new, all-encompassing land that incorporates parts from everything is a great way to go about it I think.

I would have thought that an approach where they put Endor in AK, maybe Cloud City and Naboo in Epcot, Tatooine in CA, Coruscant in HS, maybe new movie locations in MK and DL would have been the best way to do it. Fleshing them all out with rides and food options may have been difficult, but if they put a different land in each of the parks, they kinda force the hardcore Star Wars fans to go to all of the parks. Hell I'd have to consider a DL trip if they built Tatooine out there. With the way they are doing it, if the lands are the same in both places, I just have to spend a day in HS, and I've seen it all. No need for additional hotels and days of park tickets. It just makes too much sense to me at least. I get why there is not as much incentive to do the classic locations. Its not tied to the new movies and all. I even get why they are doing the generic planet idea. But man they had a money printing machine sitting there and I just don't agree with the way they are using it. Seeing the new land will be cool, but it'll never be, "wow, this looks just like the movie" cool. Unless the "new planet" will appear in the new movies, but they just can't say that right now. Even then, its still not executed as well as it could be.

Not a big fan of the made up planet thing.

Just pick a place and do it well.

To be fair, there's like a dozen planets and a death star in the Star Wars Universe. Potter, really has 3 or 4 main locations and those have been covered (except Ministry of Magic). I like the "made up planet thing", but to please those who are against it, incorporate elements from those planets into planet DHSSWL21 (the new planet) The cantina from tatooine, the cloud city, the bunkers in Hoth and the famous elements of these planets into the new one just with a different name and theme. What da ya think?

The rest of the land does have some Tatooine aesthetics too

I can get why hardcore Star Wars fans may be against the new planet thing, but as someone who has never been just sort of a passive fan I love it as we'll get elements of everything into one area instead of just one.

new planet makes sense because it can become it's own "story", and doesn't have to fit any particular time line or character arc.
