And I kind of liked that.

Some other games have been officially confirmed after the event which I'm wondering why they weren't just announced there.

More like they needed to show Japanese games at an event taking place in Japan. They probably went crazy for this over there.

There should've been a western conference too.

To sum up..

  • Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, 1-2 Switch, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 announced as new first party titles
  • Priced at $299 USD for base with a March 3rd launch
  • Multiple third party titles announced and somewhat leaked
  • Nintendo is moving towards something similar to Xbox Live and PSN
  • Region Free
  • Zelda as a launch title as it'll be out for Wii U the same day
  • Nintendo antics
Personally, it was good but there were problems in pacing and choice in what to show in my opinion. It's not bad, as it'll generate hype but I think it's a situation to where there is some miscommunication.

But, if they keep an equal balance of major first party titles along with third party titles along successfully; they should be fine. But, I'd keep an eye on tomorrow's treehouse stream for a deeper focus to multiple games.

That's something I'm not sure of. When they announced the paid service they were talking about smart device connectivity through online just before that. It didn't seem clear if that's what would be paid for or online multiplayer as well. Maybe it is but it didn't seem clear to me.

Getting another list in order..

First Party:
  • Legend of Zelda BoTW (3-3-17)/(Available on Wii U following day)
  • 1-2 Switch (3-3-17)
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (4-28-17)
  • Arms (Spring)
  • Splatoon 2 (Summer)
  • Unannounced Gamefreak Pokemon Game (Probably in the Holidays)
  • Super Mario Odyssey (Holiday)
  • Fire Emblem Warrior's (Holiday)
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Announced)
Third Party (Only major ones):
  • Fifa 18
  • Sonic Mania
  • Project Sonic 2017
  • Minecraft Switch
  • Dragon Quest X, XI
  • Elder Scrolls V
  • Lego City - Undercover
  • NBA 2K18
  • Stardew Valley
  • Steep
  • Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition
  • Untitled 'Tales Of' Game
  • Yooka Laylee
Unknown:
  • Shin Megami Tensi
  • Project Octopath
  • Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2
So-far, it's a great lineup of multiple first, second, and third party titles as I'm interested to hear about the Treehouse and what it offers today..

The thing that will be great though, business wise; is the region-free aspect to Switch. It's something that honestly had to happen, with importing happening quite oftenly. It's going to be beneficial to increase the audience that the Switch has and more importantly, will allow people to get their hands on something they want without having to wait for a localization or to have the foreign version of the console to them.

Doesn't seem to be a lot at launch though. Zelda and Mario have me sold but I'm also starting to worry about the third party situation, specifically western. There were so many rumors that the Switch is so easy to develop for and I want to see proof of that. Getting to the list if you're counting Yooka-Laylee you might as well also count Shovel Knight which has been announced for it. I'm looking forward to both. Rayman Legends better have a ton of new content being such a late port, lol.

Bummer that Mario isn't coming out until the holidays but it looks great. I'll probably still attempt to get one at launch but I probably won't go crazy trying to get it right away. Mario was pretty much the deciding factor if I get it at launch. So if I fall in to one early on, great. No big deal if Nintendo does its usual thing where it can't meet demand at launch. But hopefully it doesn't linger all year. The NES Classic still isn't readily available even after the holidays

I think Nintendo knows it has a a third party support problem, and I think they also know much of that stems from the underperformance of the WiiU. I think that's why we saw such a deliberately spaced show last night. Their roll out of the WiiU had so many people confused thinking it was a Wii add on, which was a major factor in the systems slow sales, which in turn lead to third party support jumping ship. Last night was perfect in at least demonstrating the Switch as its own entity. Now it comes down to interest in the console and how pre-orders do between now and it's launch in March. I think that, if pre-order numbers come in high, many third party developers will being looking at the console more seriously. The next two months are critical for the success of the Switch, and I think Nintendo knows that.

I think people misread the public not caring as not knowing. People knew the WiiU was a new console - it just offered very little over the wii so people didn't care.

"Well it had this and that and...."

Yeah, but the general public did not care.

This event was supposed to be where we learned about a lot of games. I'm still getting it at launch cause that's probably the best chance I have for having it for my California trip in July. Can't wait for local co-op Mario Kart on the plane :D

That's why Switch needs to change that perception. Having the main Pokémon games as rumored alone could easily shift public opinion higher than it was for Wii U.

I liked the presentation, was very Japanese. Switch looks good, I think it will do well. Oddly enough I can see the 1-2-switch becoming popular. Very happy there will be more Japanese games such as Shin Megami Tensei.

I got my preorder too. My sisters Wii U netted me $125 off :whoo:

It'll be the standard edition of Zelda for me.

This is not true. Lots of confusion that the Wii U was a new controller for their existing Wii. Even Jimmy Fallon got confused over this when Reggie visited The Tonight Show. The name and the confusion around it are widely considered one of the main failings of the device.

Agreed, the Wii U's initial announcement was infamous because it came off downright confusing to everyone. People and news outlets didn't know weather it was a new console or a accessory for the Wii. CNN ran a article saying it was a accessory, and Nintendo had to make a new commercial trying to explain the differences between the systems and that it -is- a new console. For pete sake, when that announcement was over and the hosts running the streams didn't know what it was, you know that's a major problem.

Sorry, but this really isn't the case. The entire botched launch of the WiiU has been well documented. Nintendo's entire marketing campaign for the WiiU focused solely on the Game Pad, which was their first mistake. Retailers didn't help either. Anyone remember the horribly inaccurate Target ad that had the WiiU Game Pad sitting on top of the regular Wii console? Or how about the Walmart ad that mistakingly bundled WiiU games with the Wii console? The choice of the name WiiU did them zero favors either. There are countless news reports out there of retail employees pitching the WiiU as just a new controller option for the Wii when questioned by the gp. But who wants to buy a $250+ controller for an aging system? I myself had to step in at a store after overhearing a employee trying to reassure someone that the WiiU game they wanted would play on their Wii regardless if they had the "expensive new controller."

Nintendo even tried to rectify it with a WiiU console tour across the country and a brand new marketing campaign about 6 months after launch, however at that point the damage had been done and third parties were already jumping ship. That lead to the cycle of consumers then knowing what the WiiU was, but reluctant to purchase it because of the lack of games, which just fed into the problem of low sales so no real game support for the system that would prompt sales increases.
