Spielberg won't be directing from what I heard, but will have a very active hand in the film.

Well given his very conveniently timed postponement of Robocop it could maybe happen (in a Peter Jackson I'm-not-directing-The-Hobbit-oh-wait-look kind of way) because as yet he isn't directing anything else in it's place... Who knows eh.

Spielberg stalled his adaptation of Robopocalypse, which was going to star Chris Hemsworth and Anne Hathaway. He has nothing to do with the Robocop remake, which actually has already been filmed and slated for a February 2014 release.

Yes sorry, slip of the tongue there with Robopocalpyse! Knew it was something like that :P And I don't see the lack of detail as cause for concern yet, even with 6 months spent casting and negotiating with a director it would still leave a year to shoot and get through post - with a script already time shouldn't be an issue I wouldn't think.

A year and a half time frame is actually pretty common these days, even for big tentpole movies. If they wrap shooting before the December, that leaves them with seven months of post-production and VFX. Unless the ball doesn't immediately get rolling, as in they wait until Summer to cast and find a director, the release date really shouldn't worry many at this point.

The quote you used was me referring to the schedule until JP4 hits theaters. But yes, Robocop was originally supposed to be released on August 9th of this year. The studio then said back in October of 2012 that Robocop will be moved to February 7th, 2014. This was due to the fact that the sci-fi film Elysium moved its release date to August 9th, 2013.

So now I feel slightly vindicated about my assumption that new activity in Jurassic Park would coincide with a new movie release. Sound marketing strategy.

From Deadline

Kathleen Kennedy Departs ‘Jurassic Park 4′

Universal’s Jurassic Park 4 will proceed without franchise producer Kathleen Kennedy. Asked on Twitter if Kennedy was still producing the pic, Kennedy/Marshall’s Frank Marshall replied:

@LeDoctor: No, Ms. Kennedy has moved onto Star Wars and will not be producing JP4. She’s traded raptors for TIE fighters.

Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) penned the script for Jurassic Park 4, which Marshall is producing with Steven Spielberg executive producing. The 3D fourquel has yet to lock a director but has a release date of June 13, 2014. Kennedy’s history with the dino franchise goes back 20 years: She served as producer on Jurassic Park (1993), The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), and Jurassic Park III (2001), which tallied a three-film total of $1.9 billion globally. Kennedy, who produced Spielberg’s Best Picture nominee Lincoln, recently stepped into her new post as President of Lucasfilm and is exec producing the J.J. Abrams-helmed Star Wars: Episode VII, due in 2015.

It was announced in January that Universal Pictures is moving forward with Jurassic Park 4 and, today, a director has been named. Safety Not Guaranteed's Colin Trevorrow will helm the franchise sequel.

The Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment production will be produced by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley with Steven Spielberg as Executive Producer. The script was written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes).

I agree with BriMan.(I knw the start of this thread was from 2009) Joe Johnston is not the worst director by far but in the past he has shown interest to that Dino concept that sounded more like Deep Blue Sea than Jurassic Park.

With the fourth one they better get EVERY character back that they can from the first one.

I believe that rumored super soldier type Dino script got thrown out.

Great choice for director. Now let's get some great new and old cast members back.
