It lets you out next to Bloodmoon, but not in the line like it did last year.

Time for my annual question of how are the Unmasking the Horror Tours in terms of allowing photos? Some years it's "cameras down" for 70% of the houses, other years it's just a room or two per house they don't let you take pictures. Just curious which way the winds are blowing this year. Thanks!

TLOU definitely and ST4 to a lesser extent were the only houses where it was cameras down the majority of the time. I was very happy with how permissive the originals were. Dragons in particular there was only one specific figure that pictures weren't allowed of IIRC.

Thank you! Do you know when do they start letting people in through that entrance? Also, can we get to the Stranger Things S&S area through there? I am taking 3 people that have never been, so trying to be strategic on how I plan our night.

Alright guys, I’ll be going this Sunday, one night only, early entry and Express pass. What’s the game plan for doing all houses in one night?

You shouldn’t have a problem with early entry and express. We got in the park at 7:00 last Saturday and got 9/10 houses done with express by midnight. That included a couple brief snack breaks. We did the back houses first and then the soundstages. We only skipped Oddfellow because we did it the night before and we were by there right as Nightmare Fuel was letting out so a bunch of that crowd was heading in the queue. Our order was: TLOU, Monsters, Darkest Deal, Chucky, Yeti, Dragons, Blood Moon, Exorcist, ST.

So unfortunately this year there is very little to no value at all for using the hotel entrance, at least compared to the way it worked previous years. (I apologize, I am going to go on a rant here but skip the next four salty paragraphs if you just want an answer to your question, lol)

Last year was the first (and sadly I suspect, only) time it functioned effectively as a Stay and Scream. This year you are held outside the former Blue Man theater, under Rockit, until the main park releases after the opening scaremonies. You are released at the same time as regular park entry guests, and while this was the way it always functioned until this point, the fact that they decided to hold the line back under Rockit means:
1. You don't get to even see the scaremonies from behind, you barely hear them from the other side of the Universal Store (at least in the past you were held up near the edge of Despicable Me, so you could see something).
2. This creates a massive pinch point where people are funneling through, and so by the time you are into the park proper, a ton of general gate guests already have flooded past.
3. There is a massive cluster of people trying to turn left immediately into BloodMoon standby on the right hand lane, crossing the stream of people trying to use express to get into BloodMoon's left lane, and fighting the people who even still don't want to do BloodMoon and want to just get into the park.

Theory Time: I suspect they had already cast Evil Dead Rise last year with the intention of opening it as a S&S house, and when they pivoted themes, the cast was still already available for the S&S call time, so they figured why not open it too. This year they may not have cast BloodMoon with that earlier call time in mind, so they can only open the house at 6.

Suggestion Time: Even if they cannot open the house and start letting people in until 6, they should at least crack open the chainlink and offer the hotel entrance guests the option to queue for the house or opt to stay outside and enter into the parks when the GP releases (if they didn't care to do BloodMoon). The BloodMoon queue more than any other has a massive amount of switchbacks inside a soundstage, which are never full. This would allow people the option of getting out of the heat, reduce some of the massive pinch point at the hotel entry gate beneath Rockit, smooth out the awkward cluster trying to enter the house fighting upstream, and give the hotel guests something actually resembling a benefit.

Sorry, I am just salty when I purposefully booked a Universal hotel at a higher cost than I could have stayed elsewhere having been assured the hotel entrance was a thing, only to find out it didn't function beneficially as it has in the past.

Suggestions for Planning Your Night Starting at the Hotel Entrance:
Ok, now that that is out of the way, haha, I would still suggest entering BloodMoon first, but make sure you try and position yourself toward the front of the hotel entrance waiting herd, and I would suggest peeling off to the right sidewalk once you are through the gates themselves. This will be a wider U-turn into BloodMoon, but assuming you don't have express it will save you the hassle of fighting through the line of people trying to get into the express line there.

From BloodMoon it is up to you how you want to maximize your night. These are my observations when it comes to true queue times vs posted times:
-Whenever walking past, take a look at the Exorcist line in Music Plaza. If you see 2 or fewer switchbacks visible across Music Plaza, generally that will be <25 minutes.
-Continuing across the park, if you head through NY toward San Fran, check Chucky on your way through. If you can see no visible switch backs spilling out of the F&F ride building, you are also looking at a <25 min. wait.
-For Darkest Deal and Twisted Origins you will be able to see each of their lines from each other's queues, so this will also be a good barometer of whether you should swap which one you are doing first, or stick to them. If Origins wraps around back of MIB, you are looking at a true 40 or so minute wait (if the line ends up about halfway across the back of the building). If Darkest Deal is about even with where Oddfellow's merge point it (and filling in all the switchbacks on the raised platforms) you are probably looking at < 30.
-For Monsters Unmasked, if you round the corner after passing through the house portal and the line is backed up just to the point of reaching ET, that is about an hour wait, solid. From there, cut that line distance in half, that's half an hour, down the line.
-Moving back to the front of the parks, Yeti and Dragons are similar to Oddfellow in that you can see both lines from either queue. If Dragons has 2 or fewer full switch backs, you are looking at <25 min. If Yeti's line is just about to enter the little switchback area on the other side of the Marquee Soundstage, you are probably also looking at <25 min.
-Stranger Things and Last of Us unfortunately are kind of a toss up. You get a decent look at the Last of Us queue while exiting Monsters, but it doesn't really help, as the waits for both of these do not really waver until the end of the night and by the time you make it over to TLoU from Monsters, a flood of people could have also had the same thought.
-I would suggest waiting until the last hour and a half and saving one of them for last, choosing to sacrifice more of a wait earlier in the night if you really want to be sure you get them both.

Sorry about the Great American Novel here, lol, just had a lot of thoughts brewing after this weekend, haha.

Has anyone used an AAP this year and can detail how they used it? We've used it three times before, but we were able to do S & S. This year, we have two little ones that we will have to put to bed at Sapphire Falls around 7:30ish with grandma staying back with them. I'm really worried with the reports of packed nights with us not getting to do S & S or the hotel entrance.

The AAP helps my brother by not having to stand in queues, but we still wait the posted time before then entering the express line. Should we get a time for ST, LoU, etc., then try and go to the original houses with shorter waits? Looking for a gameplan and any help would be great

That you so much! All of that was extremely helpful. I absolutely agree that staying on property should give you a little bit more of a benefit than just getting spit out in the middle of the park at a busy intersection. I think the way that they had it last year was fantastic. We got to go through our house, then get in line for a second house. Even if you don’t let us go through the house early, I absolutely agree that we should be allowed to get in line for another house.

I’m going with my wife, sister-in-law, and her best friend. My wife only wants to do Chucky and Stranger Things and that’s it. She might stick around to do one or two other houses depending on how long those two take. So based on some of the data and wait times that I have seen, I think our best course of action will be to just go to Chucky first, let the S&S die down a bit, then hit ST. Then if we’re lucky, I can get done with both of those by 10. My wife will probably leave, then me and the other two will try to hit as many of the smaller wait time houses as possible. The three of us are going two nights, so if we only get to four or five houses night one, we have the second night to do the rest.

We purchased the after 11pm express pass our first night (a Wednesday) and were able to do nine of the 10 houses. We could have knocked off the last but were exhausted after taking a red eye into Orlando the night before.

That cost us $240 total for three passes and was worth it to not have to worry about hitting some of the long wait time houses we didn’t fancy (Stranger Things). So, something to keep in mind!

This is super helpful info! Do you buy the after 11 PM express at the same kiosks around the park where you would buy a regular express pass? And do you know what time you can start buying them?

Correct! We bought ours at around 7:30, but I know it was available during Stay and Scream as well. They do sell out, so it can’t hurt to at least ask what they’re charging that night. It was $100 a pass on Saturday, FWIW.

Hi all. Going on Sunday the 24th. Will have express pass, but not stay and scream.
We are staying at the hard rock.
What time would you recommend we arrive at the park. 6?
I tend to usually head to the back of the park first . This will be one night only for us. So hoping to hit all houses plus a couple rides … mummy and rock it.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

One additional question. I see that crooked can ipa is offered at certain locations, but ecto cooler is at all . Is there a comprehensive food / bar item list ?
List ?

We just got back. Did Friday and Sunday both with express. Had dinner at Lombards.
Sunday did Simpson stay and scream but we hung out in Moe’s with a beer (& AC) until around 545ish. Then went to Oddfellows -one of 1st there and in at 6. Let out by darkest deal so that was next. Both these house are our faves so did without express and both walk right in (course the queue takes 10 mi it’s to walk lol).
Then started using our express: monsters, TLOU, (at this point it was only 645 and we’d done 4 houses).
AC break/snack, chucky, saw Megan flash mob (should mention we saw Death Eaters outside Diagon alley after dinner on way around to holding area by Mel’s).
Made our way thru a couple scare zones working way around park to DD & yeti. Took another snack/leg break to get some snacks as we like the corn dog, poutine here and I wanted to try the bloody snowball.
Then Exorcist, Stranger things, Blood Moon. Last scare zone in Hollywood. By this time it was 1145. Had done all houses/zones. No show though.
Another quick break for water/snack by Mel’s to gear up for Express run of Oddfellow and Darkest Deal. Out of park by 12:30->10 houses + 2 repeats, all scare zones (some were in daylight 1st run so we did go back thru in dark), 3 breaks. You could easily fit the show in here if you wanted as well go thru Tribute store. We’d done store earlier in day so we didn’t go in.
We had a group of 6 for most of the night and 4 of us are in our 50’s. Two in their early 20’s so the breaks were for us old folks lol!
Crowd was heavy but not elbow to elbow/people smashing into you heavy. Did see a couple groups escorted out (adults) for being obnoxious and grabbing other people in house &/or taunting scare actors : one of those groups was just in front of us in Monsters house. So yeah that group screwed themselves by being jerks- they literally separated their group in the house was group of 11. We didn’t know why we’d been stopped for 3-4 minutes until we overheard security talking on way out. Hope the word spreads that security ain’t taking it this year with people who want to be jerks.

Does anyone know what Bourne and Horror Makeup showtimes are like on HHN event days? Could I catch one of them with a Scream Early ticket? I haven't seen Horror Makeup since probably 2016 and I haven't seen Bourne yet.

I think Bourne deff has a show you can catch with scream early. I believe they just run continually about every 45 minutes or so.

There's a Bourne show typically at 4:15PM on HHN event days (but Universal is very inconsistent day to day with times - so definitely check the app day of)

As long as you are in the park, they don't care what you do. Just be mindful the preshow doesn't start into showtime and it's like a 10 minute video + 5-10 minutes to load the theater... so the show realistically won't start until 4:30 and won't end for another 20 minutes barring any delays.

Also, just cause I know people can be anxious about this, you have about half an hour until 5:30/40 to get into an S&S location. No need to worry about getting in before 5.

I sure the answers I seek are in the previous pages on this thread. But... On the urging of my wife she decided I needed to take the kids(21and 20) somewhere. She decided since I had 4 days off on the on the backend back end of our 10 day 5th Anniversary trip at the first week of Oct. I sure take the kids somewhere. So, we got tickets on Breeze from our airport here in Northwest Arkansas.

Anyhoo, we fly out on Oct 11th and get to Orlando at basically midnight. After crashing at the hotel, I figure we'd get a single park ticket to IOA to hit the two new coasters that's been added since our last trip in 2017 and get to the park around noon. We got tix for HHH that night.

So my question is, is HHH in both parks and does a ticket to them cover both or just your daytime park? If you can go to both, is it just Hogwarts Express? It sounds like if you have tix for the night, you go to a stay and scream area till the daytime only folks filter out? Is the after 11:30 pm express only available in park?

Thanks, this was spur of the moment. I get off a plane from Boston just to go home for a few hours just to jump on another for Orlando

Unfortunately no. The closest thing to what you're looking for is the Scream Early ticket, which is just an add-on for an General Admission HHN ticket and only lets you into Universal Studios (not IoA) at 3pm. I believe though if you have a regular day-time admission ticket (what you would get since you want to do both parks is the 2 Parks 1 Day ticket) already that the Scream Early add-on is not needed. Also yes the 11:30 express is only in park and it isn't always guaranteed to be sold each night.

So, if I have a park to park just go to Studio before or at 3pm? We have only done Hollywood(Cali) before.

It doesn't have to be right at 3pm. I would arrive around 3:30-4 that's when the stay and scream lines tend to start.

the idea of the stay and scream 'ticket' is that you can get into the studios starting at 3 PM (so a guest w/ just HHN could come in, do a few rides and then go to a stay and scream area as opposed to waiting on the 6:30 PM start time of the event. If you have a park to park ticket, you can enter the studios before 5 PM (when they close for the day). So, with a park to park ticket, you can enjoy IoA and then head to HHN making sure you get into the Studios park prior to 5 PM close.

What I cannot address is how early one needs to get into a stay and scream area (where the hold HHN visitors inside the park until the can clear an area for these guest to enter a maze queue) as I have heard folks line up early to try and get to the mazes ASAP.
