I finished the first three seasons of Smallville some weeks ago. The Clark and Lana romance subplot really dragged this show down. I liked it in the first season, was okay with the second season mostly, but by the third season I was really sick of the “Clark has to lie to protect his secret, Lana is super mad” dynamic. And I knew Lois was going to appear in this show, so it was especially annoying seeing a doomed relationship be dragged on. And this is apparently Lana Lang before her character derailment.

I’m not so interested in seeing the later seasons largely because supposedly it has less to do with Clark’s adventures with Smallville (though to be fair I think I’ve seen enough of that) and moreso a Superman story where he doesn’t wear the Cape.

I don’t think it was a great movie to start with, so maybe a remake makes it better?

The only person who I think could do the Dick Van Dyke roll justice is Seth MacFarlane.

In the film Van Helsing; Dracula very rarely appeared in a cape as in the usual portrayal; instead opting for a black military coat. Went through old DVDs of Van Helsing (and the animated spinoff) to get screenshots of Dracula in his cape guise in the behind the scenes documentaries. Note that it appears in the film that the cape is all black but in these screenshots the lining of the cape is red; which is accurate to the typical Universal/Hammer depiction.

Additionally, one of the documentaries showed some concept art of the various coats and capes Dracula would have worn on the film. Some of them were very outlandish, which Sommers rejected because they were too “pop star”.

I'm generally not opposed to remakes, but in this particular case, why? Like Princess Bride or Raiders, original is lightning in a bottle from a variety of creators at the top of their game. It can't be done better.

It’s sad the box office has proven that we cannot have original hits anymore, or we rarely do. It all feels so stale. As much as I enjoy reality tv, it’s odd that reality tv feels maybe the most innovative rn!

I've always been of the opinion that they blew it in the end. The whole point of the film is she is moving past childhood. When she she;s the fantasy creatures in the mirror, they should have stayed there as a memory. When she sees them in the world, its like she's reverted back to childhood I'd be like if the ending of "The Wizard of Oz" she gets up, looks out the window, and sees the scarecrow, tin man and lion waving at her.

Drives me crazy when people think remakes are a new idea. There;s been 4 versions of "A Star Is Born" (including the very first one which was basically a remake of another film), a superior remake of "The Maltese Falcon", plus and endless number of remakes of silent films, foreign films etc. In some cases, the remakes were superior to the original (See "Falcon").

Apropos I guess, Bad Monkey on Apple goes about two episodes too long, but fun if you like Carl Hiaasen (and if you live in Florida, you should) or vintage 90s Vince Vaughn (so, if you're Gen X). Breezy murder mystery set in the Keys and the Miami suburbs, really captures the feel of Florida, and Vaughn is back to form doing a middled aged take on his standard character from Swingers/Made/etc.
