Well, I'll voice my unpopular opinion (with the important caveats that I know it's just one scene, and I know there's a more to the ride... supposedly)...

... but I'm not into that at all.

I'm not saying I think it looks bad, or that it won't be a fun ride for those who are into it (which will obviously be the vast majority, if the reaction in this thread is any indication), but that finale looks about 180-degrees away from what I want from a new dark ride these days.

Once all is said and done, I'll be interested to hear about this ride's development process, as it sounds like it has fairly drastically transformed from what we were hearing about it a few years ago.

Not hating on your opinion at all, we all have differing tastes and expectations! Just curious, what do you want from a new dark ride these days?

Something where, if any projected media involved in the show was turned off, you'd still have 90% a great experience. A dark ride where the vast majority of what we're seeing is really in the same space with us.

Unfortunately for me, that seems to be going out of fashion in the industry (in terms of E-tickets, at least).

I hear you, I really think after seeing this though there is zero way this ride could’ve worked without it, or it’d be far less exciting. This just seems so immersive unlike anytbing I’ve seen and I’ve only seen the finale lol.

That being said, AR I can’t imagine is at the forefront of every universal attraction, so this is just one AR dark ride that’s breaking new tech. Monsters certainly sounds more of what you’re looking for.

I've said it a lot recently, and I REALLY hope plans haven't changed, but, once you enter the volcano the ride is 95% screens/projections for the finale to simulate being in an outer space environment.

Seriously, if the plans haven't changed, I'm telling you, this is the only scene that's all projections, so I'm kind of going insane that it's the only scene we've seen lol

I'm already wowed by the amount of tech it takes to sync projection screens, mapping and AR glasses that, oh by the way, are interactive shooting elements

Any practicality would be an added bonus on an impressive cake

I literally LOLed when I saw that it was only the last scene in the video. It's like the Universe wants the fanboys to melt down.

Am I wrong that Rainbow Road was always rumored to be heavily projected/AR’d? So this didn’t shock me, I’m so with you on this. The under water scene, Hilltop (or whatever it’s called), TWISTED MANSION, I can’t imagine at this point. Twisted Mansion is gonna mess with my brain.

Wanna add to what @Joe said, I shared with parents who don’t know much about the ride, they said “Wait what?” Once we hit the finish line, another friend is also very impressed and wants to ride it if he’s ever at a theme park again, so good reviews from people who don’t know this like we do.

If I'm guessing correctly, the AR effects and "speed" will ramp up as you go through the ride

So we've seen the sensory overload portion lol

The ending with rainbow road's finish line transitioning into the real track was crazy. AR is something most of us haven't experienced in its true form (Pokemon GO is like 1% of the possibilities) If this was just a midway mania ride I'd be disappointed, but this is may be the most advanced consumer made AR experience ever.

I imagine the starting line is a cluster f like this too but agreed, makes me even more hyped to see the rest!!!

Also gotta add to my last post, my dad who HATES Soarin’ (too scary for him) saw this and goes “Oh no no flying for me” so I mean probbaly easier to tell in person but again, they got tricked!!!!

God Universal seems to have done it, just wild.

Thats good. Definitely was a bit more digital than I’d like but that was so delightfully trippy that I can almost forgive it lol. It DOES make me dislike the presence of certain other screenz attractions even more of course.
