Halloween Horror Nights 35 (UO) - Speculation & Rumors

So far it looks to be Ramon Paradoa directing Sinners and Bloodengutz, Matt Flood directing Madlands and Cybergoria, and I believe Charles Gray directing J&O.

As for designers, Dylan Kollath is working on J&O, Manuel Cordero on Sinners, David Hughes on Cybergoria, Nick Collins is doing Bloodengutz and a newer designer (Cam Batz on twitter) is working on Madlands, who is also the one who pitched the idea.

I don’t think details on the treatment and design for ST5 have been disclosed.

All this was found via tweets among the creatives and what was discussed in the published articles.

What houses have Collin’s, Hughes, and Cordero done in the past? Is there anything in particular that distinguishes their work?

I don’t know much about them individually, but looking into it Cordero did Monstruos and Grave of Flesh, Nick Collins did WWE and Carnival Graveyard, David Hughes did 28’s Stranger Things and 29’s Ghostbusters. These guys have been working HHN for many years but it’s kinda hard to find more of their history and styles.

This is just a little bit of an aside and only slightly related to the current conversation - but one of my biggest pet peeves is: every time someone doesn't like a logo or design, they immediately say "ChatGPT/AI!"

It's possible for art/designs to just be bad without AI lol

I’m probably gonna catch some crap for this but imo the recent house announcements have been not great. The artwork continues to be ChatGPT, the descriptions and ideas sound like they’re coming from a dart board. This plus the new Stranger Danger house has so far been underwhelming.

And to clarify, I’m still going. I still love the event and have nothing but respect and admiration for the amazing talent that brings these to life. I’m just not feeling it yet and that has me a bit concerned.

I have to agree completely. What is currently carrying me is my history with the event and trusting it will deliver and the vibes will be there. But as it currently stands this is the most underwhelmed I have ever been during announcements and it feels freakin' weird. None of the houses are speaking to me. I felt last year was a huge improvement and strong year, I loved it. This year I feel...off....I am certain the HHN vibes will come around but it is a strange feeling to be so "meh."

Going to be blunt, Sinners has a lot of heavy lifting to do to balance the park this year. Not sure Hellraiser is still a huge draw like its contemporaries, and the back corner originals are kind of meh. Obviously hoping for a Havoc or Hive situation where one of these casts just stuns, but on paper, not drawing me in.

Well, between the two iconic aggressors we have of Jack and Oddfellow, they represent chaos and control, but are the two sides of the same coin really. And this one most definitely leans towards the chaos. It is super chaotic

I like Hellraiser but I just saw it fully this past year for first time and I’m 49. What will the kids think of that and Ozzy, not sure. They’ll have fortnightmares and ST5 I guess. I trust Uni but the presentation of the originals this year so far has been weak to me. It’s early though and we’re thirsty.

They seem to want to balance IPs that appeal to different demographics. Based on recent years, the pattern seems to be 3 contemporary IPs, and then 2 that are either an older cult classic or something experimental. Hellraiser and Ozzy would be the equivalents to Jason and Wyatt Sicks last year.

I'm sure a lot of people have been asking for this concept, but i literally pitched this exact concept ON THIS FORUM before. WILD.
@theuberguberman Charles Grey is doing this one, which made me realize he's also doing Jack VS. Oddfellow.
So Grey for 2, Ramon for 1, and Flood for 2 as far as originals go.

I can understand why some of this lineup isn't everyone's cup of tea, but consider me extraTERRORestrially excited.
I've been known to conduct a hype-train from time to time but all of these originals are hype-worthy to me this year!

2. H.R. Bloodengutz Fright-Tacular - The CAREY House set to the tune of variety show themed to Halloween classics where every room is a new trope? Right after we just had Slaughter Sinema in 2024? I'm in.
3. Madlands: Caged Cannibals - Sounds like Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 with a dash of Fallout 4: Nukaworld's Disciples. Let's all pretend we're animals because we're hungry as hell? I'm in.
4. Cybergoria - Zyborgs goes existential? Less Terminator and more Borg? As close as we'll get to an adaptation of one of my favorite short stories - I've said my piece in the dedicated thread. I'm SO in.
