Voiceover recording has apparently begun already for Shrek 5; as it is seemingly going to be released next year. There has been leaked bits in the past indicating Shrek 5 is infact 2025.

That's probably the reason. Maybe Puss could also show up in the Donkey spin off as well.

I would be surprised if Puss in Boot doesn't show up

the last film hinted greatly they were heading that way

It'd be silly to not lean into PiB2 with this. I really hope the animation style and vibe from that film transfers over. It would be a wonderful way to modernize the franchise in a way that is already proven with The Last Wish. The parks already seem to be leaning that direction with how prominent Mama Luna's sanctuary from PiB2 is next to Shrek's Swamp and King Harold's memorial.

I also think it's pretty fun that they tease Shrek 5 not with the main orchestral theme, or with any specific character or location, but with Smash Mouth's All Star. It's kinda interesting to see just how much the past decade of ironic memes have infected the cultural impact of Shrek as a franchise.

Even though I feel the series has been a tad up and down, I hope they just continue riding that high that Puss in Boots: The Last Wish had, since that wasn't just a great sequel, it's honestly one of the better films in the whole franchise. Fingers crossed!

My guess is that Universal was worried about the competition from Toy Story 5 and figured Minions would fare better against that. Plus a December release worked out for Puss in Boots.

I didn’t like the baby ogres so I’m glad they have them as teens now.

They need to bring back the old animation. It’s awful. We need to bully them like we did after the first Sonic trailer

I thought or believed they would be using the Puss in Boots the Last Wish animation style which heavily pulled from Spiderman into the SpiderVerse.

I think I like certain aspects of the new design--specifically the expressiveness of their faces; but the main issue is rooted with the head dimensions and the size of the ears (Atleast for Felicia and Donkey). Shrek and Fiona actually look great with the updated expressions and head sizes.

They need to throw Pinochhio's head design to the campfire.

I thought or believed they would be using the Puss in Boots the Last Wish animation style which heavily pulled from Spiderman into the SpiderVerse.

Personally I prefer the classic Shrek 1 realistic style and couldn’t wait to see what it would look like with 2026 graphic quality. The Last Wish was a good happy medium, as it kept the same designs and proportions of the characters but gave them the comic book 2 and a half D design from Spiderverse. This movie just looks way too stylized. Shrek himself looks fine, but everyone else just looks weird to me. Especially donkey. I don’t like what they did with the ogre ears. They’re way too big now.

The teaser itself was good though. The humor still felt very on-brand and they even included a ‘Damn’ from magic mirror which they haven’t had since Shrek 1, so at least we know they won’t be trying to make the movie too kiddie.

If we can be vocal and they pull a Sonic I think we’re in for a real treat. As much as I’d prefer the realistic Shrek 1 animation I’d even be happy if they scaled it back to something like the Last Wish where they at least use the old character models with the same proportions
