I didn’t like the baby ogres so I’m glad they have them as teens now.

They need to bring back the old animation. It’s awful. We need to bully them like we did after the first Sonic trailer

They turned off comments on the YouTube upload, so they know.

I hate when people claim that everything looks like AI, but I guess I'm gonna say it... this looks like AI? Puss in Boots 2 looked fantastic and this looks so much worse.

I’m not worried yet, but this definitely looks more Minions than The Last Wish which is what Shrek fans have been concerned about since the project’s inception

The design isn't the greatest but it's not horrible imo. Saying "We need to bully them like we did after the first Sonic trailer" is just terrible. Chill.

Spitballing, but I wonder if DreamWorks takes a page out of what Paramount did with Scream; and make this film about the idea of "Requels" in fairytales and in stories. How people tread and move into similar paths as they would've otherwise.

Relax, you know what I mean. People kept complaining online and spamming comment sections until eventually they redesigned Sonic. I think the same thing is called for here. Nobody is actually getting ‘bullied’

I think the new designs look great, I honestly can't even see why people don't like them! It certainly looks better than how they looked in the original Shrek and they did a great job at making them all look aged up.

Hate to beat a dead horse, but I'll second what everyone is saying. Not a fan of the redesigns. The original films weren't afraid to make the characters look ugly or weird. Here, it's like they tried to soften the character's edges, make them more cute and visually appealing, but in doing so somehow made them look even worse. I'd go so far as to say, even compared to the look of the characters in the first Shrek, this is taking several steps back.

I don't care for them leaning into the memability of Shrek, but the animation/refreshed character designs look great. The original Shrek films had pretty awful, stiff animation. Not sure what's bumping for people.

The original film's animation looks pretty stiff by today's standards, but by the 4th film, they were able to look fairly well refined. I feel like the small instances we've seen of the characters since then still look good, and they still could've made something closer to the classic designs work for this.

I think it looks really fun. The characters look older, definitely softer but I think that fits for where they probably are in life as parents of teens. It's cartoony and stylized, but I think the key elements of each design have been retained enough to keep that thru-line through it all. I could see these characters meshing into a Puss in Boots 3 pretty easily.

I like how scruffy Donkey is, and the bags under both his and Shrek's eyes. I think Fiona looks great, and so does Felicia. The OG style is very much attached to its' place in 90s / 2000s pop culture, and is also inseperable from the past decade of memes. I understand them wanting to create somewhat of a clean break here.

I also don't get the criticism of referencing TikTok or the Shrek memes. The franchise has always leaned heavily into pop culture references and parody, and as long as it's limited within the film itself, I think lampshading the past 15 years of Shrek memes is definitely a solid way to reintroduce the Shrek world to the big screen.

Definitely excited to see more from this one!

But the lazy pop culture of my era was more refined, you see. COPS and American Idol, the epitome of class and taste :kissing:

I don’t really understand the hate for the designs? Shrek looks like Shrek. This is not the same as the Sonic issue.

The only one that’s “off” is Donkey. He looks…sick and old. All of them look older which isn’t a bad way to go. I don’t hate any of it, but donkey took me off guard for sure

I can agree to an extent that Shrek loses a bit of his edge in this redesign, and with the main conceit of the original films being that Shrek is scary and ugly, I think there is something legitimately lost there in making him a bit too cute.

I am also willing to give the artists the benefit of the doubt with this though, and am along for the ride to see what kind of story they can come up with for the characters post-Forever After + the time skip.
