Variety has broken the news, Ryan Gosling will be leading the next iteration of Universal Picture's iconic Wolfman, as they are nearing a director choice.

Well the Invisible Man was fantastic and I rate Gosling so this could be very good.

It feels like Universal are going in the right direction with classic monsters now.

The Benicio Del Toro Wolfam is actually a guilty pleasure of mine - anything with Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt in it gets an automatic quality bump.

After seeing that abomination at HHN, now we know the real reason Ryan Gosling left this project :eyes:

I know a walk around character doesn't equate to the quality of makeup from a movie but man idk what they were going with for that design.

People can clown on the dumbed down, rubberized Halloween mask version photographed in daylight but this legitimately makes me want to see the movie even more.

I don't care about seeing the same wolf monster we've had for 50+ years but I am very curious as to what in the hell that thing is and how they became like that.

Especially following up after the amazing, modernized take of the Invisible Man, I can't wait to see what this version of the Wolf Man story entails.

See my problem with this, is that this looks more of lycan augmentation than it does of The Wolfman.

Enough to where I'd argue this doesn't look like a Wolfman, and looks more out of something from the Wrong Turn series. I'd also bring up we just had a somewhat modernized Werewolf with Marvel's WBN and how they made Jack's design work from comic to screen.

I desperately wanna see it to see how bad it is
( or good) but the fact that it releases in January is not great.
the mask cannot be used to judge the movie obviously, but, it is a really really strange choice,
its just does not look like a werewolf at all. I'll still watch it but it's just weird.

I don't have much of a problem with it because it's so out of context in this manner.

Maybe the 'wolf' aspects of the movie are much more metaphorical and symbolic in nature than a man actually becoming a wolf. I just find it funny that the response to this is mass hysteria when we know almost nothing about the movie!

Considering they removed everything that made The Invisible Man good from the wretched remake (which was literally just Sleeping With The Enemy featuring an invisi-suit)..

Any hype this Wolfman remake had going for it died with that awful "wolfman" debut reveal. Nobody wants metaphorical nonsense.. they want to see a man cursed by the moonlight with fur, sharp teeth & claws. Not a Werewolf, a wolf-man. Not whatever that thing is.

My hope for Universal Monsters to live on the big screen in full glory again is dead on arrival with these attempts. The originals are by no means "good", but their "appearance" was iconic. At this rate, The Monster Squad is our best "modern remake". (at least that Wolfman had nards)

I think many people found the newest Invisible Man pretty poignant, nuanced and unsettling on a disturbing level.

I, for one, welcome a deeper incision on the classic monster tropes rather than just more takes that lean more hokey and vanilla. We don't need a story of a man cursed by the moonlight, we have decades of those. What we could use is actually using that supremely generic by modern standards story archetype and use it to say something about modern society. And I absolutely do not think I'm the only one that wants that, either.

so he's not really a "wolf man" but he's a man that feels like a wolf, but on the inside lol.
kind of like Nicolas Cage Vampire's Kiss but with a werewolf lol. that's what this movie is making me think of. a psychological werewolf?
I think that movie was made in the 80s and it was called Wolfen. or there was another movie where there was no real werewolf but it was a man that became beastly without transformation. maybe it wasn't wolfen, but I swear I saw a movie where the werewolf never changes.
