Just watched those three Fantastic Beast movies last night for the first time. Damn, they were a mess. Plots were so convoluted that I had to look back to Wikipedia to understand them. There were only a couple characters that were decent. They sure didn't have that 'Potter Magic' the original films had. Kind of reminded me of the mess that the last batch of Star Wars films were.......The beasts were the only aspect that looked worthy of an attraction or show. So I can see the circus show in Paris could have merit.

It definitely should have started as a book series first.

The FANTASTIC BEASTS movies definitely feel like adaptations of books that don't exist: too many side characters and subplots that you can imagine could have been much more organic if fleshed-out at novel-length.

But I always maintain the original pitch when the movies were announced -- which was basically "Indiana Jones in the Wizarding World with creatures instead of artifacts" -- could have been really cool.

They could have had two completely different decent Wizarding trilogies here, with some character crossover even: a Fantastic Beasts adventure/love story and a Wizarding War drama series.

Mashing it all together left not enough room for either concept, as they both clashed with one another, introducing new characters just to disregard them near immediately.

The first one was solid. I really enjoyed it at the time. The scene with the rain at the end especially. The second one was truly awful and I never watched the third.

The first film did terrific world building. I really don’t understand how they didn’t just let the original 4 characters flourish, and each movie is basically a Wizarding action film in a few Wizarding ministry with new Beasts. It would’ve been popular if as good as the first film.

SAME. I was so bummed walking out of Crimes of Grindelwald, I didn't even bother with the 3rd even though I love Jude Law.

I enjoyed the 2nd one despite it's flaws. I don't think it was that terrible. However the 3rd one... that was awful. Probably the most boring movie I've seen in a theater lol. I nearly fell asleep multiple times it was such a dull mess

The first FB film is the only movie I ever fell asleep during.

And it had nothing to do with the 64oz beer mug that I got that day for joining the theater's "rewards program".

:lmao:

Those films had big shoes to fill with the success following HP.

I think trying to replicate that same organic like ability is hard thing to do.

JK's Harry Potter books started out pretty tight but as the series went on, the books got longer and longer and got bloated, to me. It seemed like nobody was in a position to edit the works and rein things in (I don't know that's the case, that's what it felt like).

Then, she was vey involved in the Fantastic Beasts movies, screenwriting the first two, and co-writing the third. I can imagine a situation where there was just no pushback or questioning going on.

And aspects that may have seemed charming and endearing in script form (like a bookish, mumbling, quiet-talking lead character) didn't translate to a strong on-screen lead. Maybe people with more experience making movies would have anticipated that (Indiana Jones managed to be bookish but a whole lot more as well). Maybe there was nobody who could caution JK on that or much else. But the result was painfully unwatchable for me.

The only reason I even tried was the series' relationship with the Harry Potter stories. If you take that away, and this series was stand-alone, yikes.

The choice for the lead in Beasts came down to Matt Smith and Redmayne, and boy, did they go in the wrong direction.

Yeah I heard it opened today but no first account confirmation from anyone I know. I’ll be going Tuesday again so I’m excited if it is, only thing I haven’t ridden yet. I will say I’m skeptical of it opening but we will see

Yeah that sounds about right lol. I feel like more people would’ve been saying something about it if it was open

I'm hearing there is "no bushy mustache" rule, due to weight requirements.

Take that as you will.
