All the "attractions" plus effects and volcano show. This will be the biggest thing to hit Orlando next year. Sorry Jimmy

Depends if you like water parks or not. Just like @SeventyOne was saying in the Rivers of light thread that you can't change the way people think about how they tour DAK (day vs. night) simply with marketing, you also won't change someones mind who inherently hates Water Park's to love VB (or even go) simply because of the advertising.

Blizzard beach only has 12 attractions, Typhoon Lagoon is soon to have 13 attractions. That's not somewhat average. Universal has 18 attractions not 18 slides some attractions having more than one slide. 18 is also more attractions than DHS has open right now and 4 more than AK has.

You mentioned a few Disney parks?
It's safe to say Disney Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios weren't built with true theme park quality either.
Overall 18 attractions doesn't come close to being a theme park. Simple as that.
Universal can call it what they want, I just won't agree.
Who knows maybe seeing and being there physically may change that.lol

Great picture, especially love that it includes Sapphire Falls, I absolutely love that place. Can't wait to return there to experience Volcano Bay!

I guess my main issue is Volcano Bay being advertised solely as a theme park in the video when it literally is a water park that replaced a water park.

No downplay on the Bay. I'm ready!

I know that, I just wonder if that will be something that proves impractical and needs to be adjusted or cut back a lot when it actually happens.

Universal tends to figure out that stuff early before many know it was a notion. After that, Uni commits and pushes and shoves until they can make it all work. The exception was FJ and that was because Warner was involved.

Disney seems to say, "No more money!" after the whole thing is built. EE is one of the worst I have seen. Many of the tall waterfalls don't function any longer, the fog in the cave at the top... and of course the obvious big one.

There's supposed to be giant waterfalls coming down from the tallest of the Pandora "Floating Mountains" too (with testing already taking place), so it's clearly not impractical.

I get what you're saying- but you're wrong in some ways.
Firstly, they said it "isn't a water park, its a water theme park". So that is true, is it not? Wet N Wild, or name your other generic water park like Hurricane Harbor, etc- while they might have a similar number of rides, they are just a bunch of slides and concrete. Aquatica, while nicely landscaped, is not "themed" either. BB and TL are, and should be "water theme parks" as well or "themed water parks"- whatever youd call it isnt the issue- they are themed.
So its on Disney, really, to have not differentiated their water parks in their domestic marketing from some generic water park.

Make no mistake, Volcano Bay is no Wet N' Wild. It isn't "a water park that replaced a water park". Its a water theme park that replaced a water park.

To jump on board with what's being said. I'm not going to consider this a theme park by any means. They may describe it as a water theme park on text but they're flat out calling it a theme park. Skip to 36secs:

I don't think there is any issue with the way Disney describe their water parks. I think the public know what to expect from Disney but I think there is going to be a lot of confused and angry people when they show up to Volcano Bay not realising it's a water park.

I've found the whole thing misleading from the second I heard it.

Yeah the video says theme park without saying water theme park. Universal is now fully advertising this as a theme park. I just hope they know what they are doing....
Many people don't like water parks so they ma show up to this "Theme park" and be very upset.

Yeah, they are marketing to the same audience that has a hard time figuring out if "The Great Movie Ride" is an actual ride after all.

There will be a small percentage of that group of people who will just roll with it anyway. Universal could make a killing selling swimsuits at the door to the unprepared.

I know it's not complete, but watching it go up in person, I see no way anyone walking up to the gate confuses this for anything other than a water park. Volcano should be breath-taking, but still colored plastic slides everywhere.

It's another "theme park within a theme park" situation. I wouldn't read too much into the verbiage, and I trust guests to figure out at least some things on their own.

The big 3 all do that already. Always found it kind of odd.

I can kind of understand. If somebody rips their swimsuit or want a souvenir.

@BriMan should look into getting some OU Hawaiian shirts printed for it opening

I actually disagree with this. Aquatica doesn't have a "backstory" but it is definitely "themed." Just like Frontierland and everything else built in the MK before the 90s. Aquatica's theme is some whimsical, equatorial ecoparadise island in the South Pacific--the same as Discovery Island in DAK.

BTW, I don't think heavy themeing fools TL or BB guests into thinking they aren't in a water park, anymore than it will VB guests. It just elevates the existing experience--just like Space Mountain is and always was a (tame) roller coaster, despite decades of protests by Disney to the contrary.

Except they aren't walking up to the gate, but taking a tram... after they've already paid for parking in the garage.

VB is way more of a theme park than the "Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park" was when it opened. I'm making this point b/c Disney made sure it was always referred to as "Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park" in all literature and commercials.
