And Disney already knows what Universal is doing and same in reverse.

I'm not sure what Disney could do that would ruin a 4th gate - guests are now visiting Orlando with both resorts in mind, so unless Disney has something so incredibly expensive and loved that guests will just avoid Universal, I don't see Universal regretting expanding their current offerings...

Yeah, it comes down to the fact that Harry Potter has changed the game for good. Universal doesn't have to worry about generating demand for their parks as long as they keep spending to keep the attractions and IP fresh/current. Universal has enough "mind share" now that it gets its percentage of guests no matter what Disney does.

Adding a 3rd major theme park basically allows Universal's guests to add an extra specific day at a Universal park without needing to go to a competitor. How exactly does Disney prevent that from happening? Even a 5th Disney park wouldn't prevent that effect; more cruise ships won't either.

Well...it will be a bad thing for Universal's ROI, let's put it that way.

Sort of like Japan bombing Pearl Harbor.

Look, I can't say much. But, the Star Wars Hotel is a guinea pig, for a mind blowing project that hasn't leaked yet. (And 100x greater in scope than the hotel.)

Again, Disney feels they won't need to build it in Orlando unless Universal announces their 4th gate. It is currently planned to be built in Anaheim, regardless of Universal, but dependent on the success of the Star Wars Hotel.

Whatever that experience is, it won't mean anything to Universal. If Universal builds a fourth park, people will still go to it no matter what Disney does. And Disney knows Universal is planning another park so the fact you say they are waiting makes no sense.

Disney and the rest of the world knows the Universal 4th gate is coming...

Comcast literally announced they bought 475 acres in Orlando and the acreage is zoned for theme parks. What do you expect them to put there? Everybody knows a new theme park is coming; it's just a matter of lining up the IP and the timing (relative to Universal Beijing which will presumably get a year of spotlight on its own around 2020 or 2021).

If you are talking about that old 'boutique' theme park concept, you're crazy to think it'll ruin Universal.

And what more could Disney do past the Star Wars hotel experience to prevent people from going to Umiversal? make them sign a contract saying they can't?

It's exhausting to me to think people still disregard Universal as a presence that can't expand into a 3rd "dry" theme park. It's very clear they can go toe-to-toe, and they need to at this point. Y'know, people said the same when Universal eyed building in Orlando for the first time, now look at them.

Small theme park with limited capacity and more hands on story telling with a guide. Think Discovery Cove but on a grander scale.

Also, Universal has already set a foot print in Orlando. Gone are the days where one park has to win. They both win no matter what the other adds. Today, people WANT to visit BOTH not either or.

It's not.

I'm not saying it's going to ruin Universal! All I'm saying is that another park costs a ton of money. If 2 open around the same time, and one is significantly better than the other, well one is going to probably have a harder time breaking even, which could stall future development. That's all.

Disney gonna finally bring out Beastly Kingdom ya'll. It was never dead, they just knew how much bigger it would be as it's own thing.

4rd park doesn't even stand a chance. DreamWorks? Dream on. Pokemon? More like Poke-who.

It's gonna be like the War of 1812.

2 parks? Last thing Disney wants is a new park. No way will they allow a DHS/Animal Kingdom problem arise.

Yeah IMO the planned IPs for the fourth gate crush anything Disney has up their sleeve. A Pokémon land would bring far more people than anything Disney could do.

Disney has quite the genius idea, taking hotel and theme park integration to a whole new level.

I don't have any idea what Universal's third gate is going to look like. But, from what I know, Disney's future ambitions couldn't be more monetarily advantageous.

So hotels integrated into a themepark with 24 hour access?
