Seems we're getting comments indicating Potter and Monsters as the best new attractions in the park. And, perhaps Stardust Racers right after them. Sooo, of you who have sampled all three (taking into consideration that they are still adapting scenes)....which is the best Epic attraction?
I have to start by saying that I am not a big Harry Potter fan, but I have always enjoyed the areas UoR has created. I bring this up as it seems when I talked to folks that have told me Monster's is 'better', they seem to be HP fans that have an issue with the story.
Now, for me, something that is tough for me with UoR is the queues they create. When you talk about Gringotts, do you include the bank lobby? Kong's witch Dr, Velsocoaster, all the newer stuff?? I think I enjoy HP queues more than the rides themselves when thinking of IoA and USF.
Now I also feel I must bring up that I never had a ride through on Monster's when everything worked although I have seen it all working in pieces.
I put the Potter ride at the top. I have only been on once and everything worked on that one ride through. Maybe I was happy that I enjoyed the ride more than the queue where as my expectation (after having a few walkthrough of the queue) was that the ride could not out due tile world. Both rides have incredible animatronics, but I think the human types ones in Monsters are behind a counter or some set piece while Potter had some standing out in full view and I really thought it could be an actor in a custom. The way film and set pieces blend together....I dunno, everything seemed a new and fresh approach to me things taken to a level I have never seen, it just seemed more original than anything else I've seen before which is why I think it is at the top.
Monster's is incredible, if I include the two pre-shows as part of the ride, it might be on top. I love the chaos, the screen use, the animatronics, everything! But, a part of me feels like 'ah, I know have a monster's Forbidding Journey. In a lot of ways, Monster's is to FJ what Transformers is to Spiderman in a since that it is a v2. Maybe that takes a little away from me in that the approach to this ride feels a little familiar to experiences I have had before therefore not as 'new' or 'original' to me which is what is impacting my judgement or 'ranking'.
When it comes to Stardust. I guess it is fair to look at it in terms of Velocicoaster. I think I like JP's VC a little better, VC is relentless, it just keeps punching and then that roll over the lake is just such bliss to me. With Stardust, I feel it is more paced, maybe better at story telling as it has a nice drawn out 'flow' to it. SDR's certainly has the upper hand in that it has two tracks, it is so fun if you launch at the same time as the other track, it's atmosphere/views and onboard audio change at night (making it like four options to pick from).
The crazy thing (to me) is that I am pretty sure 'yellow' does not go upside down in the ways that 'green' does.....i know there is this corkscrew type fall that might go upside down, but I thought 'green' had me upside down at least twice.....so just the idea that my mind still has no clue what happens when I am on Stardust that I guess it is a good thing as I certainly escape whilst on the ride.....
