MiceChat is discussing USH getting the Carthay, and someone brought up that the construction looks like the Fox Westwood Village Theatre....

Thoughts? Looks possible....but what would the significance of this theatre be to Universal?

Ok cool. I mean, it looks cool, but kind of random....and being the "Fox" theatre would've been slightly weird for an icon.

Universal not releasing official info or concept art for this is driving me crazyyyyyy

Has Universal Pictures ever owned it's own iconic movie palace? I know many studios did back then.

I wonder if I'm wasting my time and this new tower is completely original to USH... haha...

Maybe it's their way of building more hype? Or maybe they always make so many last minute changes that they don't want concept art released? *shrug*

I personally would only want concept art of anything that might be different.

Ok ill stop hahaha. It's kinda painful seeing other sites talk crap about Universal Creative and making crazy assumptions.

Has there been any iconic Laemmle theatre? Like, with iconic architecture?

For the record, I was that other source/the one who asked Lance (Screamscape owner) to retract/edit his statement to not cause any additional controversy or issues. He's a nice guy. His source apparently thinks it "100% IS the Carthay" but again, I'm happy it's not true.

And if it's indeed original, I find that even more impressive

I can see all the new articles coming out at UP's opening.. "Wow! Universal has tricked us yet again - it seems the structure is in fact an original design!! We were certain we would see another rendition of The Carthay!"

I can't wait to see UP. What's the oval structure supposed to be? I always envisioned Dodger Dogs being there, but I could be totally wrong. All I've really seen of that structure is the oval/roof part.

Just saw a picture, the color scheme does not look like Dodger Dogs. Again, I could be wrong, but the shape always threw me off. As to that other structure that's presumably Starbucks, I have a very strong feeling it is. All of the Starbucks' in my area have that exact same circular structure, and I know it's seen in many other places as well.

Saw it for the first time in person today. Wow it is big! And really dominates the Upper lot! I'm so excited for it!!! (Btw it's not as big as the Carthay for anyone wondering for a size height comparison). It really opens up the area and makes it feel bigger!

Got to visit the park 2 days ago. I was looking at the menu for the Flintstones BBQ near the information booth when a little girl walked up to the cast member standing inside the booth. She asked her what was going on with all the "big stuff" behind the UP construction walls, and in reply, stated that the area is dubbed "Universal Plaza" (surprise, surprise) and that the large structure she was pointing at (presumably Starbucks) will be Pink's. I find it peculiar that she said the largest structure in UP will be Pink's as opposed to Starbucks.. Maybe she was misinformed, confused, or maybe we're all wrong. Either way, super interesting. I'm so glad I took a look at that menu.

I can see Pinks going in there. Knott's has a Pinks right outside. It's always funny to hear what "inside scoops" some employees talk about. I was told Shrek and Water World were both closing this Christmas (Definitely not the case). I imagine employee rumors are a common occurance that spread like wildfire.

It's interesting what you hear from cast members. They're almost as feverish with rumors as most rumor sites.

The first walls of Universal Plaza came down today. The green/yellow oval structure is nearly ready to go!
