I got the opportunity to check out Horror Unleashed on Friday! Here are my overall thoughts:
Simply put, I had a good time. All four houses that are there already were basically copy + paste from former Orlando houses that I already went through. The exception was TCM as (I believe) was copied from Orlando's 2016 house as I didn't go to Florida's event that year. I think it's great that they use former houses at Orlando's event for the facility as, for one thing, it will give the West coasters a taste of HHN Orlando if they've never gone before and 2) If you want to revisit a house that was a fan favorite in Orlando or you never got the chance to see it, this is a great opportunity to have another chance to see it if they decide to put such a house here. I never got to see Orlando's Insidious so maybe they can plop it here someday!
I don't want to spend a lot of time breaking down my experiences in all of the houses individually, as I feel that would take a lot of time and be a bit repetitive. I loved how there were some "exterior" scenes that were used as themed queues kind of like Reign of Terror. Some talent was either amazing, looked a little tired, or there were a couple of missing spots. There were some good scares, but I don't think I jumped anywhere near as much as I did because I already went through the houses a couple of times already in original placements in Orlando. I did like how there were some elements where you would be "stuck" in a scene and watch a mini show play out. They mainly did this in TCM, which I thought was a great bonus touch. I also loved how they spread out the groups so you get the best possible experience. Monsters was my favorite house, Scarecrow was a close-second. TCM was pretty good as well.....Exorcist was meh. I hope that's the first house that gets replaced once that time comes.
It was also great seeing Jack the Clown and Chance on the West Coast. The show was fine, but I felt like it was a little too "safe". Would love to see the glory days of Jack the Clown from the mid-00s HHN where he would put someone in a blender and spray the audience with blood or something. It's missing that grit. Aside from that, it's great to revisit Jack in the eyes of the West Coast HHN fans as this will hopefully get the wheels turning for the Hollywood peeps to bring Jack or the Director to Hollywood's event one day.
Overall, I think it's a good attraction! To be honest, I'm not burning to go back to Vegas to to this again, especially with how pricey it is. My sister hasn't gone who really wants to see it, so I will probably visit again with her so she can check it out. Otherwise, I would most-likely go back if they replaced one or two houses for new ones. If you've never gone before, especially if you're an HHN Hollywood goer who's never been to Orlando's event, by all means check it out! This attraction will give you a pretty good feel for what Orlando's event is like. I hope it does moderately well in the long run because it's great to have a year-round horror experience to scratch that itch!
