I'm completely devastated, even though I know it's the right call. I didn't even care for this year's IP lineup, but even the worst HHN houses are awesome. I'm a local, but I had 4 Sapphire Falls stays booked that I now have to cancel. This is going to be the longest year ever.

Just an example that amplifies how popular, and respected, HHN is in theme park fandom.....Yesterday Theme Park Insider ( a site based in Southern California generally with way more Disney adherents than Universal), posted back to back articles about Universal announcing the closing of HHN and Disneyland announcing the closing of their Halloween celebration. As of this writing there were 38 forum comments on the Universal HHN story and 1 forum comment on the Disney story. Theme Park people sure love their HHN. HHN RIP in 2020, but (fingers crossed), back stronger and better for 2021." May the HHN Force be with you"(with apologies to Star Wars ).. :)

Idk about Billie. This seemed like her last celebratory thing to do for "When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?" before finishing off this era and releasing a new album.

Notice, for instance, that on the same day HHN was cancelled, Billie announced a new album. That could be completely coincidental, but it's quite the coincidence if so.

IDK about that surprisingly enough. I think what she's doing is still completely up in the air.

When COVID started, she was only able to get through three of her scheduled tour dates for the second part of the album's touring cycle. Last she stated, the rest of the tour was supposed to be rescheduled which would mean the era may get dragged on a bit further (or at least combined with a new one) since there were a lot of dates left.

What she announced yesterday appears to be just a song rather than an album and it's not her first one-off single since dropping the album ("everything i wanted", "No Time to Die"). I was more theorizing that that song was supposed to drop with HHN announcements potentially and she just announced it for ASAP once she realized the event wasn't happening. That's not to say she won't start a new album cycle pre-HHN 2021 with how nonstop the pop music industry is, especially since she started writing a new one in March, but I don't think it's 100% cut and dry yet. There's also this from January:

“This year? No, but I will be making it this year,” Eilish said about her next LP in an interview this week. “But next few years, it’s coming–when it’s made. It’s not made yet.”

I mean actually losing jobs or not, the performers at the event undeniably form a bit of a community in working together, in fact thats the main reason most come back year after year, so it sucks that they wont be able to have that community in the same way this year.

shameless locale promo, but the 13th floor in jacksonville is apparently still going on this year, so if you can please check them out. they’re a great haunted house establishment with some really impressive set design and scares. if you can make the drive up here and you want your hhn bug scratched, i suggest you check them out!

Biiiiig same on the decorating. The only upside of this year will be moving into my first house next month and being able to go all out with decorating that thing for Halloween

And couldn't agree more on the local haunts. Please please please support them if any of them find a way to operate (safely) this year, whether in Florida or anywhere else for the out-of-state folks.

Welp.

After going full Cher Horowitz and wasting my day shopping...I’m honestly just hurting for the people that were hired that are now out of a job. As for myself, this’ll be my first year living down here without weekly HHN visits so I plan on decorating the hell out of my house, like “is this a living room or a Spirit Halloween?” levels, doing a Universal staycation anyway, and overall just trying to have a safe & great Halloween season regardless.

I hope you’ll all stick around and chat with us about everything else going on in/around the theme parks (this is a much bigger site than just HHN), if there are any happening maybe you’ll get to visit some local haunts wherever you are, but if not I hope you’ll all stay well, stay safe and have a fun Halloween season and I’ll see ya in the future!

about being locals and about replicating the HHN experience this year on your own, it would be interesting if HHN fans throw hhn parties or small haunts ourselves,

we still need to be safe and we need to protect ourselves, but this cancellation makes me wonder about the possible multiple halloween celebrations (parties) and makes me wonder about any new smaller haunts coming up,

the whole country will have hhn fans looking for halloween stuff. there will be a giant void to be filled, it opens up the possibility to new events, parties and movie showings, small street haunts, I could see the cancelling of HHN opening the door to all kinds of new smaller things,
we can all honor and celebrate halloween in spirit together and share online :horror:

i guess my point is that it is going to be super interesting to see how hhn fans will celebrate this year. and what mini events show up. i am kind of excited to see how everyone honors HHN on their own, i kinda wish we had a new thread on the chit chat section during october to share pictures and plans, maybe.

(Spooky Empire con is also cancelled, dang......i didnt know....i know this seems obvious, but it will mean that october is gonna be dry of official horror events)

If you do have HHN parities, make sure it’s with the people you might be quarantining with. And if you decide you must invite others, quarantine for two week after.

Billie hasn´t announced a new album though. She just teased something new next week. Could be a song she wrote while in quarantine, but an album is a stretch. It took more than 8 months for her to announce an album that would include you should see me in a crown. But her tour isn't done, EU, Latin America, and the last US leg got postponed to 2021. Who knows when her next era will be, but 2021 is too close. Most artists now wait at least 3 years for the start of a new era.

Finishing the tour, getting added as a headliner for a couple festivals, and a HHN house would make 2021 the perfect way to end her first album era tbh.

I think @Nick just mixed up the tweet. No harm, no foul. It was intentionally a bit vague from her. I don't think a 2020 album is happening simply based off of her own words, but the "3 years" bit isn't quite as predictable as it may seem. We just got two Taylor Swift albums within 11 months. We got two Ariana Grande albums within 6 months. The competitive nature of the pop machine has things moving at quite a speed lately. It's absolutely fascinating to watch. Throw in quarantine giving artists endless free time and you've got a bit of an unpredictable situation. But yeah, for the sake of this thread, I'm not counting Billie out for next year as of now.

you bring a good point,
a best way to have a hhn celebration would be outdoors at night, maybe a yard party, decorating the yard, the good thing is that the party would require masks and costumes, and it could be smaller parties. im excited to see what people make

It is a sad time. Its understandable there wasn’t a safe way to do it, but still sad. Also remember this hurts the fan community but this hurts way more to those who had their hand in creating this years event and those that were to be a part of it.

Now I’m curious to know whether or not some of this years houses don’t make it into the restart of HHN 30 next year or if all of them come back or if they say screw it and make a brand new lineup. Same goes for what they had originally planned for the streets back at the beginning of this year. I guess that is up in the air. The budget was apparently quite massive for this years houses and they were apparently quite stunning. It will be interesting and exciting. But sad that it will be a long while before anything about next year is released and known.

That’s all we can do is pray they are able to retain the budget. After all of this, I will just be happy to have the event, however, it would stink for it to come back full speed, but without the house detail they would have had this year.

Before the thread is locked, I just need to say my thanks to everyone here. Legacy, for providing us with all the clues at the earlier ages of this thread, Ringwraith for helping us with the insider info, Brian, Joe, Clive, Nick and any others I might have missed, thank you for managing the thread and keeping it a friendly and respectful space. And of course, thanks to everyone else in this thread for contributing to the conversation and making this a website I was genuinely excited to visit when I did. And finally, thank you Sanjay for this threads best moment. I never would’ve expected it ending this way, but this has been a crazy year. Maybe the real HHN 30 was the friends we made along the way. Signing off, see you next year.

I've had time to do my grieving, but someone told me a Shadybrook Police Department car was backstage and it hit me again.

I appreciate the nod @Moistowlette11 and @hhn28andbeyond . Having been on the side with zero knowledge of what's going on, I truly envy you this time around. I really enjoyed having insider info these past couple of years, but knowing what was going on for this event(outside of the light details of the spec map) and then watching it get cancelled, was really rough. I am hearing word that they're looking at keeping some or most of the houses for next year and who knows what moneymaking event will come along the way? There could be tours, there could be a "villains after hours" type thing or there could be nothing at all, but I have a feeling that Universal has something up their sleeve in the upcoming months. Maybe it's more of the "fall festival" rumors we were hearing, or decorating the park in old fashioned Halloween decor, or bringing a scarezone to life on some random nights to drum up attendance, or a show to the fear factor stage. I know it won't be HHN, but it won't be Halloween time without SOMETHING in the parks. I have no insider info on this. I'm just being a eternal optimist.

As far as this forum/thread is concerned, I have couple of suggestions for next year with hopes that we're still not in the midst of a pandemic. Did this thread get out of hand? Yes. Was it sometimes fun to go crazy or post random stuff? Yes. Did the rules not apply to this year because of Covid? Yes and rightfully so. However, I can feel the frustration from some veteran members who just wanted to come here for info and not wade through nonsense. I was one of them...but I also contributed to the useless fodder, so assuming things are back to normal next year, I'd like to propose a couple of things for our members to think about, to make these boards more appealing to visit.

1. If you don't have any ACTUAL insider info, don't post that you do. Even if you heard it from some TM in the park, frankly, that's not good enough. You can throw it out there and see if it holds water, but don't post it as gospel. Being that I used to be one of the members back in the Vault days that would try and chime in with everything I heard, I look back on it and now understand how annoying that can be. I also apologize to those that had to put up with it. You know which members to trust with info. So trust them. I will tell you that I sit on most of my information and I don't *fully* reveal anything until I have heard the rumors start flying. That way, my sources are safe, and the info that's there, could have been heard from a variety of places. I, personally, will never try to mislead you. I will drop a little more obvious hints or like someone's post or post that ninja emoji if I know something or know you're onto something, but I can't outright say it. But I won't mislead you. I also will never pretend that things don't change, but I will always tell you what's being said at the CURRENT time.
Suggestion for the mods: Sources can change year by year, so maybe we can get give "verified" tags to those that are "in the know" that particular year. However, let's say I may lose my sources next year, so then if I had this "tag," I would give it up since I wouldn't know anything. That way, people know who to trust. Just a thought.

2. Opinions are fine, but opinions saying "you'd rather have this than that" or "that's stupid, why would they do it?" aren't productive opinions. If you're going to have an opinion, criticizing something, come up with a solution, or don't say anything at all. All of this "I'd rather have" talk is just useless and it clogs the forum. Start your own thread with a "why don't they do this?" but it doesn't belong in speculation.

3. Following number 2....guide and be kind to those that don't understand the decorum of the forum, the first couple of times. After that...well....:chainsaw:. But no seriously, attacking feels fun sometimes, but it's not productive and in the end, it just makes the other person feel like crap. The one thing we could all use a little more of, especially during a pandemic, is patience and grace. Also, to help reduce the urge for people to call you out, reread and check your post before you hit "post reply." 1. Is it beneficial? 2. Is it news? 3. Should I send a PM to someone first, asking if it's relevant? 4. Am I being a Debbie-Downer? 5. Am I being overly optimistic?

That's all I got. I hope we get some Halloween-y type fun things in the park, that aren't HHN, but celebrate the spirit of the season. That way we can start a new thread and start some spec about that.

It's been fun! I'll be around.

I can't speak for Brian or the other mods on everything you suggest but one there is one part I underlined above I'd like to comment on. We've tried to tackle how to handle this before, including giving Legacy their own thread for hints. The problem is this is a tacit acknowledgment from the site about HHN leaks and adds a layer of "confirmed" we want to avoid. And personally I'd rather not add another level of user segregation than we have to.

I am still open to hearing others thoughts on the situation and how we can improve this. This year we did "speculation" with the hope of closing this sometime in August and transitioning to a "general" thread.

So, as far as the clue situation, I understand the trepidation with starting its own "clue" thread as that would literally be saying "hey everyone, come here to see what unannounced houses are coming". But, what if you did something where all the clue posts were rendered a different color? I took a recent post to show you an example of what I mean (attached below, pretend that it's a clue-related post). You'd add a little magnifying glass at the top right (kind of like a "bookmark" type of clickable button). If you click that magnifying glass, it means your post is relegated to a different background color, thus signifying it involves a clue - everyone would have to stay on top of their posts to make sure they are flagged correctly (clue post or not). This way, everybody could easily see which posts are clue related and which ones are not; but, you're not literally giving it an entire thread and thereby unofficially endorsing it which could upset Uni.
