I would actually love this idea (with the proviso that it's happening in a world where USF is getting continued work to correct its weaknesses).

The notion of modern Universal trying its hand at a Matterhorn-style "mountain" coaster would sound pretty exciting to me.

USF is getting a Rockit replacement in a couple years and probably a Supercharged overlay, what are you all talking about

To correct a decade of subpar decisions (that's my subjective editorializing) at USF is going to take a lot more than swapping one unthemed coaster for another unthemed coaster and one simulator for another simulator (even if it happens to be BACK TO THE FUTURE, which I'd be happy about).

It hasn't happened in USF since 2000 when MIB opened.

25+ years since the park opened a physical/AA-driven dark ride experience, during which the park has also lost many such experiences.

replacing two bad attractions is a great start for the studios park. but it’s gotta just be a start.

Make no mistake: what they're doing to replace HRRR is good for the park. If the Supercharged ride system is themed to a better IP, that will be good for the park (marginally, but still). But there are other things that need to be on the table that would be orders of magnitude more beneficial to the park's lineup.

So I also hope this is just a start... of a plan that can be achieved on some kind of reasonable, medium-term timetable.

If they demolish everything (assuming Mythos is safe), I will have mixed feelings. I love the ambiance of Lost Continent so much and the temple of Poseidon is beautiful. I remember seeing for the first time back in 1999 and just being impressed. Plus, it remains a great place to sit down and just enjoy the sound of the water, the background music, and the view. However, I never loved the actual attraction. It was okay but kind of a letdown after such an impressive entrance. I always felt that the vortex would have made an awesome entrance to the boarding station for the actual ride.

I was a huge Poseidon's Fury defender (I think it offered a unique attraction experience with a ton of atmosphere, and I wish more parks had something akin to it), but setting aside our differences there, I agree about the ambiance of Lost Continent. It's one of the areas that first comes to mind when I think about IOA, because of the beautiful marriage of design and music. It has (or had) one of the best "vibes" at the entire resort.

This is USJ's Spider-Man/Pokemon show building over current LC plot. The access road is in the way, so I'd imagine they'll have to relocate it slightly if they use the exact same ride layout/system as the USJ version.

If it's more animatronic-driven and features less motion, I'd be ok with it.

They could shrink the footprint with a 2 story building too

I’d be shocked if they copy the Japan Pokémon ride ngl

Given one of Pokemon's big selling points is on the diversity in locales being a key point, I'd wonder if they'd make USH, UOR, and UK (if it'd come to there) representing different regions of Pokemon, with different attractions to offer something different for everyone.

Not sure what to think on Pokemon potentially for LC. But I think in comparison to where it was rumored initially; I think I am interested to see what a increased land for wideness can do with context.

Zelda and One Piece rumors

Yeah I can be jealous of Orlando.....sounds like the people in Florida want to make some money and appeal to people under 40 with fresher IPS and things that have not been seen in theme parks

very excited to see what ends up here and in Orlando but think the resort is going to get closer and closer to being close to Disney in attendance with these IPs

I don't know how realistic or otherwise this is, but what about Animal Crossing as a concept instead? Has there been any talk of using that IP? I'd say it's as popular as Zelda, but maybe it doesn't quite have the correct qualities for a theme park experience.

A Small-World/SLOP style dark ride through a bunch of Animal Crossing biomes would be so fun

Just thinking about the Biz journal quote:

“In the coming months, there will be construction activity in Lost Continent as part of site planning to ensure the area is ready for any future developments"

Would they just demo the land and leave it clear for a while?

The way I'm interpreting that statement is that Poseidon's Fury and Sinbad might get demolished before Mythos and the rest of the land closes.

If Mythos stays, their inside theme and lagoon/land facing structures aren't readily adaptable, unless its demolished too. Perhaps that's the
key to what's coming. Zelda, Wicked, and LOTR could work with minor adjustments to Universals most famous restaurant, like they did for Hogsmeade's restaurant. Some of these other IP's, Mythos would stand out like a sore thumb. Mythos doesn't appear to be on the chopping block at this point in time.

Indeed. That’s my worry from that statement. Poseidon’s building must be in really bad shape!

Not gonna lie, Mythos has lost a bit of its appeal recently for me. Still a better value compared to other offerings at IOA, but (at least for me) it's fallen off compared to some better options at WDW and Atlantic over at Epic.

The comment is broad, like any corporate statement, so I wouldn't go off it. Could be several things:
  • They are in fact doing something, they're just not ready to reveal it.
  • Maybe they know something will come to fruition in the next few years, might as well take advantage of the Rockit demo crew once they're done and get that part of the project done even if they don't have something 100% confirmed yet.
  • Maybe the cost of maintaining those show-buildings is getting too much and it's cheaper to demo/remove it?

If One Piece is actually on the table….. yeah, give me that for Lost Continent, Zelda for Epic, and Wicked for USF. Keeps the literary basis for the islands and expands it into a different form (manga).

Good point. LC attractions/shows have been vacated for a number of years. They haven't been in much of a hurry at
this point in time....though @Alicia seems to know what's happening.
