Had an unbelievable run through this tonight around 8 PM that I think may nudge it into my #1 position this year overall. Everything I loved opening weekend is still great - well rounded mix of gore, SIF, pulsing light-up scenery, music, length, it all just works as a weird combo of gross-out house and party house.
But what really is elevating it as we get a little further into the season is that the Art actors seem to have such latitude compared to the usual mechanical style at HHN. I happened to be in the pocket for all the scares, but I was also having great little interactions with the Arts all throughout the house - he was waving, staring me down, offering me brains, miming affront when the people behind me complained about the smell in the bathroom. It's so fun and inviting when the actors get to do more than lunging and hitting a dialogue trigger! I hope Universal works on ways to incorporate this level of performer freedom into other houses in the future because it really makes for something special with this house.
Oh and the wet path looked wetter than ever this evening. There was a huge spout of water coming down on the left side of the path a few feet in which you could choose to walk through or not. I opted to avoid it. It looked like it had the potential to genuinely soak someone which I had not seen on previous runs.
