I just realized my family is planning a trip to California in 2019 mid-late June and realized there’s an actual chance I could be at Disneyland for the grand opening. Peep me waiting outside the park in a tent that night!!!

I wonder if both of these attractions cost the same. Battle Escape costs more cause of scenery, while Millenium cost more because of research and the intricate system itself?

Unlike Avatar & TSL I think we will see a balance of wait times between both rides or at least not so different.

any drink can be made alcoholic with a well hidden flask!

and yes....I have no doubt there will be adult beverages. Although Disney typically likes to keep the non-alcoholic drinks separated from the regular drinks.

Didn't Alicia say you can ask them to add Alcohol to that one Pandora drink? It's just not listed on the menu.

There's a cantina- there has to be alcohol! I can't wait to cause an intergalactic incident in there.

Pandora actually has a pretty decent balance in wait times for FoP and NRJ most of the time.

You're right though. I think people will rightfully be drawn to the Falcon ride because... well it's the freakin MILLENNIUM FALCON! But based on everything I can surmise from what i've heard, Battle Escape is going to be the better attraction of the two, so the wait times should definitely be pretty balanced.

This bad boy is going to be rendered in real time. Imagineering and Nvidia have discussed that they're using EIGHT top of the line graphics cards working simultaneously to process the activity. It's nearly $40-50k in graphics card power alone.

Disney’s ultra-realistic Millennium Falcon flight simulator will need 8 GPUs to run – TechCrunch

If it was all pre-rendered or had virtual branches that switch to another "track" or sequence, this would be complete overkill. Each one of these cards can by themselves process 4K content but 8 together can do wonders.

This to me makes me think this is going to be the ultimate video game, but like you said, the "game" most likely can get nuked by bad players so it's going to be concerning especially if the park remembers performance. What if I'm stuck as engineer? I can do the best possible but if the pilot decided to dive bomb every wall, does that ruin my experience?

I think I need to recruit a crew...

I don't care how many graphics cards they are running.

1. The total cores is likely less than a percent of Pixar's rederfarm.

2. Pixar renders at 4K, this ride was hyped as like 8 times that, or at least 4.

Ain't no way a computer canrender anything realtime that looks impressive at that size. Now, there won't be any hair, so that greatly reduces render stress. But there will be explosions, I assume, stars, exhaust flames, debris of blown up tie fighters.

People seem to think this will look like FoP, a movie that took a massive renderfarm MONTHS to render. The look of the ride will be much less, so that it can be essentially a video game. It will LOOK like a Star Wars video game.

As for the other video game a hundred yards away at DHS, do you try and get paired up with a 60 year old woman as your ride partner, or someone else who knows how to trigger bonus rounds. I won't believe until I see it that this ride is very interactive at all. If it is, it will be a HUGE gamble by Disney. Again, imiagine spending thousands of dollars on a trip, waiting 3 hours to ride the Falcon, and get in the ride, in the back seat, with 4 older women from a Brazilian tour group at the helm.

Well, that random element will make it all the more entertaining and fun.

Keep in mind your comparing a 5 minute ride with feature length movies.

What about 2 minutes of “auto-pilot” and then something goes wrong and you have to take the helm? At the last minute, auto pilot is re-engaged and you land safely

Doesn't matter. THey aren't going to be rendering a high quality enormous image real time. They just aren't. The test footage looks like a computer game.

If this was truly the world's most expensive computer game, and I could ride it with 5 like minded mega SW fans, it could be really awesome. But that isn't what 99% of the riders will experience. To them it will be a simulator ride with graphics worse than Star Tours 2.0. WHich brings up a point I hadn't thought of. I assume no characters will appear in this. They most definitely won't hold up. Perhaps some droids, but this will likely be all space battle. Perhaps pre rendered footage at the beginning and the end of the video game.

I hope for the best. Lord knows Disney needs a truly game changing ride in the US. Indiana Jones opened a hell of a lot of years/decades ago. But I think this is not the ride you're looking for. Battle Escape might be, if really big screens fit that category in your opinion. Shanghai Pirates with no water could be cool. But it'll still be Pirates with no water, different characters and a couple of IMAX screens.

I'm sure that is what it will be. I could even see 3 or 4 controlled sections. But you can't deres for the controlled sections. Well, you could, but it will make it look even more like a video game.

Test footage is well, test footage. It's never going to be what the final product is.

This isn't comparable to a standard video game that has an engine that needs to work with thousands of different textures and characters and however many possibilities. It's a 5min game that is heavily efficient in what it does.

Your point about hair is an excellent example of how this game can cheat. Assuming it all takes place in space, there's no tricky business like nature with trees and grass. I assume most of the characters will be in a costume, possibly a storm trooper (Probably dirty for less reflections) which requires far less processing.

Some of the mods look excellent for Battlefront 2 and that should be enough to pass the test for most guests.

WDI is doing the rock work.

Zsolt Hormay is the lead on the rockwork side of things on both coasts. He also did major rockwork projects for Disney such as Tokyo DisneySea, Cars Land and Pandora. Here's an interview he did in 2012 talking about Cars Land. He's Disney's go-to guy when they are doing big rockwork projects.

You mean the cliffs up to the school? Does he work for imagineering or is he an independent contractor?
