I am already quite dizzy from watching it, but I get what you mean.

I enjoy the Star Trek films, but I'm no "Trekker" (or "Trekkie" as I like to incorrectly call them). I AM, however, a DIE-HARD Star Wars fan. While Star Wars is undeniably the bigger franchise, Star Trek is a HUGE franchise in and of itself. It is to Star Wars what DC is to Marvel. I think the addition of Star Trek to UOR is a brilliant move...it's one of those powerhouse franchises that are absolutely TOP-TIER in terms of draw, such as Potter, Star Wars, etc. I think this would be knockout addition to the resort and would elevate things that much higher...there's WAY too much reliance on Potter right now. Time for the "next big thing" and Star Trek would definitely be it. Hope a Star Trek land happens!

As a Trekkie I find an outsider declaring Trekker to be the proper term highly offensive  :pound:

Trekkie was actually the original term used to describe people and actions which many did not understand, so it quickly found itself being used in a derogatory manor. Some latched onto the newer term Trekker as more P.C., as if it were not linked to the same meanings. I think Trekkies should stay true to their heritage and not let outsiders define them. Also to the outsiders... we can call each other Trekkies but y'all can't call us that. Okay, maybe not that last one

I did want to bring up that Trek fandom, no matter what you want to call it, paved the way for Star Wars, Potterheads, even Bronies :yikes:

I'm pretty sure Gene Roddenberry himself referred to them as Trekkies and not Trekkers.

I enjoy Star Trek, specifically TNG, but never dressed up or learned any Klingon.

Anyway, I've mentioned before when this topic came up, it's difficult to know which way to go with it. There's basically 3 "generations" of Star Trek now, and there's devoted fans of the first two, I'm not sure about devotion to the new JJ Abrams version, especially since there's only two movies and not a long-running TV series of relevant material.

Well, if Uni was to go with these plans they better get moving so they can open it in 2016 to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the series....talk about free marketing.

One added bonus to building a Star Trek land would be some extra convention business. The Official Star Trek convention is still held in Las Vegas, but with a sizable attraction in Universal I think it's safe to say they could probably steal that away. This would mean extra business for the Universal hotels and make use of the rumored additional convention space. They could also create something like Star Wars weekends combining a hotel based convention with activities in the park.

Dude, that Circumotion Theater concept is freaking COOL! That'd be a blast to ride...though probably vomit inducing to the weak-stomached riders. I still want someone to build the Pandora's Box concept from Vekoma!

Hate, the remakes are some of the best mainstream sci-fi in some time. I also love the originals as well, but due to dated effects it can be harder to get into if you aren't a Trekkie from the start.

Oh. Oh no. Oh no no no.

I cannot disagree more. Star Trek 2009 was an entertaining enough romp, but Into Darkness is so unbelievably bad. Terrible characterization, terrible "twists", awful plotting. Just an all around bad movie.

Into darkness wasn't that bad... But it certainly was the worse of the two remakes thus far.

Agreed. Wasn't as good as the first, but still a ton of fun.

But at least we got a back story to Kahn in "Into Darkness" than from the original. The next one is going back to the the roots of the originals so they are going to be probably good.

Edit: How killer would it be if for a ride/show, they made it to where you are a member of Star Fleet and you sat in the hull with Captain Kirk and each one of you are a assigned a position (lingust, communications, wrap guy, etc) and as you ride you have to do such and such to help the mission go right? Kinda like Mission Space but more large scale and even more interactive?

I thought Star Trek: Into Darkness kicked butt too. Very enjoyable popcorn flick! The first film was a fun origin movie, excellent casting, and a blast to watch Kirk "beat" the Kobayashi Maru. The whole "alternate universe" aspect bothered me a bit from the original series, but it opened the future films up to new stories...but I'm not a Trekkie/Trekker, either. I was scolded above about calling Star Trek fans "Trekkies," (as that's allegedly what Gene Roddenbury called them), however, just yesterday, I was scolded by a bunch of close friends of mine who are SERIOUS fans (they speak Klingon and haven't missed a convention in decades), and was told that they're not "Trekkies," they're TREKKERS!!!

Cracks me up...Star Trek fans can't even agree on what to call themselves!

I'm thinking of a high-tech Space Mountain concept that the whole family can do...would love to see something along the lines of Space Fantasy only more highly themed
