And don't you dare use the word underpriced for any theme park. They don't need encouragement to raise prices for anything!

Knotts still offers all season Dining plans at a relatively cheap price. So these people are getting a deal at knotts.

Back to SFMM. The food is overpriced at MM but as a member I get 50% discount. People still have dining plans but they are not pushing them anymore. I know the new passes at MM are not as good as the memberships but at least they grandfathered us in (for the time being).

Cheap? Hahaha

Also, if you get 50%, then that means you've got the top tier Diamond pass, which is not something every guest at the park has. Also, the TMs barely get a discount & they've got to deal with people's crap

Anyone think WW was a wrong choice for this park? Yes it’s a fun coaster and people enjoy it but… it hasn’t really drawn the big lines and attendance I’m sure the park was banking on. Could be too early to tell but it’s the last few weeks of summer, one the busiest times of the year, and I see little to no wait for this thing. Could it be the fast ops? Or the coaster is just mid-tier compared to other elite coasters in the park.

WW really wasn't gonna bring in any guests that weren't already coming. Everyone knows SFMM is a coaster park.
The largest crowds I've seen here are for seasonal events like Fright Fest, not coaster openings. If management is serious about "premiumization", then they need to add a spring festival, and improve the Full Throttle Nights summer event.
Of course, larger crowds bring higher labor costs, so maybe they'd rather keep the crowds low...

Literally me lol. I think it's the worst addition to the park in years.

SFMM can't really afford an elite coaster, so they do the best with what they have.

I would love it if SFMM and Knotts simply stopped adding coasters for like, a decade if not longer. Watch the fanboys have brain aneurysms as that elusive hyper/giga never comes lol.

Instead I'd like to see both parks continue to maintain what they have.

And possibly even get rid of a few. For me at least, I don't care if they own some title of most coasters. What's the point if they aren't working.

^ Right. Not to mention, people in California have adhd. We don’t appreciate what we have, we get bored after 5 minutes, looking for what’s next. We don’t deserve a Giga coaster or anything else worthwhile here because we wouldn’t appreciate it. I die laughing every time we get a new mediocre coaster here like Hang Time or Full Throttle while we watch other states get awesome rides. Because ultimately even Six Flags and Cedar Fair know not to build their best stuff here lol

Mediocre? Hangtime!? It is a solid coaster with a great lighting package, smooth ride & enough thrills. Not even close to mediocre. All its really missing is surfer music.

Full Throttle gets too much hate. It is a much better coaster than people give credit. The triple launch is fun. Do I feel like it was budget-cutish & unfinished? Oh most definitely. But again, it's not mediocre either.

To say they won't build their "best rides" here is subjective. Six Flags treats Magic Mountain like a broke down Carnival junkyard where things go to die. Cedar Fair is somewhat restricted with Knotts due to the contract fine print & of course Buena Park, plus Cedar Point is their 150+ year old baby so it'll always come first.

Hang Time is fine for what it is, and it fits the boardwalk well, but it’s pretty weak compared to what other staple CF parks got that year. Good ride, but ultimately pretty forgettable.

Yeah I gotta agree that Hangtime is mediocre. Honestly feel like West Coast Racers is better than it

Am I the only one that thinks Hangtime is stellar, especially considering the compact space it occupies…?

Wonder Woman looks like a fun ride, but not something that’ll move the needle.

I don’t want this to become a rag on Hang Time thread, cuz I like the ride, but it’s just one more example of the West Coast getting uneventful med-tier coasters rather than a world beater. Compare this ride to Steel Vengeance or even Twisted Timbers, and it’s clear we got the shaft…again. I mean, who ends a ride with a rough, vibrating cobra roll?

Now this ride could have use a few tunnels, a water feature or even one airtime hill?

As for Wonder Woman. No coaster is going to move the needle at Magic Mountain until they’re free to spend a little more money. The park needs a giga, Intamin wood or a Mack extreme spinner. Types they just can’t afford.

SFMM has quite possibly the most unique and high quality roster of rollercoasters in the world, rivaled only by cedar point.

It's actually kind of funny having followed and attended the park since being a kid, being excited by every development to watch them have built themselves into a box where they can build the holy grail of new cutting edge tech in a coaster, and it's complained about on the internet and by the locals because it's "meh" compared to everything else they have.

I honestly couldn't forecast what they need next or what would move the needle at this point. A giga is a great idea but where would it go? And quite frankly, superman is still one of the tallest rollercoasters in the world, and taller than 300ft... Giga would be hard to market and might see diminishing returns, no matter how good it is, they are expensive and eat up a lot of land, all things that SFMM seems short on these days.

They need to figure out a new trick and a new way to sell the park, the list of innovative ride experiences in a coaster format is running low... They've basically out extremed themselves.

I think now, perhaps would be the time to focus on improving the park experience. Not sure what that looks like these days.

I don't have any major complaints about Wonder Woman the coaster. It's the DC Universe area that's concerning. It needed a refresh, but this version is worse than before. We lost a flat ride, restaurant, and bathroom, and replaced it with...concrete.

Although I will say my experiences with staff have been excellent recently. Very friendly, helpful, and professional. And the bathrooms they have renovated are very nice. I'm gonna hope Concrete Universe is a blip, a remnant of the previous regime

This project was the final one okayed by the previous park president, you are correct. As it was suppose to open in 2021 (the park's 50th anniversary).

We have yet to see what the new team in charge is going to do with this park. Everything from 2023 on with be the new guys.

The only thing I know so far is there is alot of new (and supposedly better) food options coming.

I will be happy if they pause on coasters a bit and focus on infrastructure and flats. There's a rumored upgraded main gate entrance and parking (both sorely needed), and there is space for flats that just aren't being used right now. Other SF parks have advertised flat ride packages, so it can be done. We just returned from SFOT and SFFT, and nearly every other SF park I can think of (SFGA, SFGrAd, SFOG, SFNE, SFStL, and SFDL) has more flat rides than SFMM--it's pretty embarrassing.

I totally think an Endeavor would fit into the old Tidal Wave space pretty easily, and could easily be a "Catwoman Whip". Although being somewhat close to the Boardwalk area, if they had guts, they could theme it to an old SFMM ride, Circus Wheel. It'll never happen, but it is fun to think of.

Not to drag this thread back to hang time but I agree. Hang time front row is a great drop experience. The head chopper is great and the vertical lift freaks everyone out. Certainly what the replaced it was an upgrade. Also Knott’s is not Cedar point.

notes on recent visit:
A noticeable increase in security presence at the park. A dozen or so sherrif officers at the security entrance with 2 narc dogs. Also seen throughout the park. Not sure if this is because of the Knott’s incident.

also the snack bar near Gold Rusher is being turned into a Cheetos branded popcorn stand. Forgot to take a picture but they put uo oart if thr sign yesterday.

I think the only unique coaster type they have left they can do is the tilt coaster. After that, they gotta save up for a good coaster. Like a decent hyper or a Mack Adult Spinner.

An Endeavor, Troika, and a Nebulas would be a solid flat ride package right there. Put the Endeavor where Tidal Wave was, the Troika where Pistachio Park is, and the Nebulas where Flash was. It would also be nice if they could put a small flat similar to the Rodeo at SFOT where the abandoned dragon station is by Jet Stream.

Hangtime is a really good coaster. Obviously there are better ones, but it's really fun! I think it's better than dive machines like Emperor, Oblivion, or Valravyn. The drop at least.
