Wording sucked on my part on that.

I meant in the matter of pivoting away from the "Six Flags" brand being a focal point--to promote the individuality and to allow Magic Mountain as a entertainment complex (of both the amusement and water park) to stand out without a dedicated "external" brand being on the forefront.

Agreed. It's called curb appeal. Kind of like when you sell a house. If the outside looks like crap, people won't go into the house. So the sign is a first impression. Then they go in and see the park is crap. In my opinion though, the letters look good, the paint colors are bad. Just my honest opinion. But it is an improvement.

I do think the paint colors look off, but I don’t necessarily think it’s bad

Its a sign at the bottom of the hill across the street. That first impression is gonna go out the window & into the dumpster fire once inside the park gates.

Until park operations drastically change, no amount of renovation of that ancient sign is going to matter when it comes to guest satisfaction.

"WOW. Today really sucked. But damn, that old sign looks great. So glad we spent money to come here"

To me, it's *almost* an invert of the original colors of the sign. Originally a blue background with white letters, and now white-ish/beige background and blue letters. A nice way to honor its history (especially in a park that's not especially noted for acknowledging its history), but simultaneously modernize it.

66353c74e808378c3298395d9ae24ac5.jpg

In any case, a helluva lot better than the "Six Flags California" sign (which is a name for a Six Flags park that doesn't even exist) that was up there for years.

the sign was advertising a park that literally no longer exists...

I am shocked it was not updated sooner

I'm not upset the sign got updated...I'm upset they are updating before the park

Fix the park as well and cool but besides the one bathroom being redone. I'm not seeing much movement in the park to get it self ready for the new coaster...we need a project star dust this year and get things more in order.

I'll be there today and will update the thread If i see them doing anything else but mostly its moving dirt and the one restroom everything else is same old same old

i think we're making a mountain out of a mole hill here. if this is the end of the renovations and changes they make to magic mountain, i'll be first in line to complain about it. but renovating one of the park's most iconic symbols, in part because they were already paying the contractors to paint coasters, is not the big ticket item y'all are making it out to be. they didn't blow the entire "fix the park" budget on a sign. let's wait and see what happens next.

Now if they added lasers and sparklers to the sign out front... then yes, they may have blown the budget on the sign! :)

Also, like, pick a battle, man. Either the park is starting to care or it never will. Like damn, I’m just happy to see it not look like it’s ready to fall over.

There it is, I got the email. My grandfathered price for life of 5.50 a month is going up to $13.99. Looks like I'm probably bailing on Six Flags.

With the exception of Samurai Summit, nearly every major section of the park has been refurbished:

  • The Underground is updated
  • Dc Universe is updated
  • Steampunk is (relatively) updated
  • Full Throttle Plaza is updated
Baja isn't updated, but doesn't look bad (other than being a bit disjointed). And the bathrooms in Steampunk are being updated as we speak.

To me, aside from Samurai Summit, the only area that is really, really terrible is the bathrooms near the front of the park, behind the Looney Tunes Store (which also hasn't really been updated since the 90s.) Funnel cakes could also be updated... but all these are the same building, so it'll be a pretty big undertaking to do so. But it really does need to be done, IMO.

Can individual things be touched up? Sure, but on the whole, the only area that really looks dilapidated is the front of the park and Samurai Summit. There was a rumor it was the next area to get refurbished, but it seems COVID and the new ride have since changed priorities.

Just want to co-sign this. I understand why they've put this off, but it really makes for a crummy first impression at the park.

The front of the park needs a total redo
Looney tunes area needs to be updated
Every restroom needs to be redone or at least repainted
Every coaster needs to be running two cars minimum
The app needs to be reworked, the food ordering doesn’t always work with the four passes and can’t update fright fest times on it or characters/shows
We need more shows on weekends at least

But this site kinda drives me mad people get upset at Disney for the slightest thing off but this place gets away with it’s just is what is is. But there are ways like better gardens, more shade and cooling area to improve the park but only one other member things the park needs work

Everyone else seems happy with the park but my standards are not being met for this park, it’s the flagship park

Also I’ll do an update tomorrow from my visit tonight

I mean, yeah, I have much higher standards for Disneyland than I do for Six Flags Magic Mountain.

Disney set the bar, so they’re expected to keep that status quo. Not all the criticism is warranted, but it is what it is. With that said, holding Six Flags to the same Disney standards is crazy talk.

To put it metaphorically, it's like comparing JC Penny's to Bloomingdales. Yes, they are both retail shops that sell clothes, but it's an entirely different audience with different expectations.

And this is not really a dis against JP Penny's. I often find some decent clothes there, and the stores (often) look fine for what it is. But it's foolish to expect it to be like Bloomingdales... it's a different standard.

With the exception I mentioned in the front of the park, I think they have all been updated. The bathrooms behind the main gift shop are updated, by Apocalypse are updated, near Scrambler have been updated, and the ones by Twisted are being updated right now. Granted, that leaves Fort Le John and Katy's Kettle, but to me those aren't really in that bad of shape. The ones by Ninja are dated, but spacious--though I will grant you aside from the front of the park, should probably be next in line for a refurbishment. Then again, they are also probably the least used, so it's not as high a priority.

As for this, I do agree with you... but I also just watched a vlog where a group got a behind the scenes tour of the maintenance shed, and they raised a good point...with 20 coasters, and each of those having about 3 trains each, that means at any given time there are over 60 different trains that have to be looked after year round. I can sympathize that's gotta be a huge undertaking.

Went to the park yesterday

Got to see the SpaceX Rocket above the park as I was leaving
Went on Apocalypse the Q at night is still pretty fun with all the flashing lights and what not, the coaster it self is good not the best coaster but fun for what is is.
Also got on Twisted Colossus and man, this might be just like the closest to a perfect coaster we have. Its so dam smooth for its speeds and turns, we got to race another car which was fun and I was in the front which I think is less G forces but its cool to have a fun view
Bathrooms near TC look like they are done with the basic building on the outside so hopefully it opens before spring break.
I got to meet Wonder Woman/Batgirl and Bugs and Sylvester.
Nothing to really report for the area they are moving dirt in, still them just moving dirt.
I saw what I think is a new T shirt with Daffy and Porty Pig on it...I assume its a somewhat tie into the new Movie coming out by the art and characters
Longest line I saw was 15 mins for WW coaster
Also the Cyborg part of the JL pre show seems broken...it works and then when Joker is suppose to come on screen it just goes silent and then Cyborg just randomly starts talking again calling them crazy
