Got an email back from going to guest services on the 13th

Basically they said thanks for the feedback, I even asked to be called back and even called the customer service and they said they made a note to call me back

But just got an email. So yeah

Woof. That’s disappointing to hear.

Back when I was in college I wrote a very critical piece about Magic Mountain on a blog I can’t even recall the name of (not one with much readership). On my way to class one morning, I got a phone call from the park president to, essentially, hear what I had to say and ask for feedback.

My point being that there has certainly been a time in the parks recent (ish) history that indicated they could deal with criticism, even when it was (probably) not totally fair. So it’s a bummer that they’re not better responding to, frankly, pretty mild and measured criticism.

If it was just complaining I get it

But it was all facts

I paid over 100 bucks for an event and tried to move my ticket date and couldn’t. The app does have wait times or saying if houses are open or not. Communication is bad if a houses does go bad, many people letting you into a house won’t even know it’s closed

Haven't seen the merch for Fright Fest this year, but if they don't have Trick R Treat merch, CavityColors dropped even more to their collection

TRICK 'R TREAT - Horror t-shirts, hoodies and more!

Going to give it another go Thursday....the park opens when the event does.

No idea how that is going to pan out

Also for laughs...got another email from Six Flags....saying sorry for the late response but since I have used my ticket they can't do anything about it now.....I emailed them about 9 days before. So call if you need help, I also talked to them via Chat where they said I could not change my ticket.

Report from Last night

It was the first Thursday so even the employees were surprised the event was open...no joke I heard a few make that comment

Parking was open by 6:00 PM when I went. Maybe a little over 200 guests were there when it opened. Most guests were outside the gates waiting but at 6:30 PM they let in APs (not sure if its just the highest AP or all APs). We waited until 6:50 PM. I walked quickly and got my wrist band the line was 5-10 mins by the 6:55 PM. The Line was 15+ mins when I went by it later there is also a place near Westcoaster racers and The Aftermath house where you can get a wrist band as well...and no one was using it

No Scaremony on Thursdays it seems, actors were just out in the park at 7 PM.

Saw opened at 7:05 PM and was the first person on it, pretty good house when its staffed

Also enjoyed Trick R Treat. The Mirror room is cool but needs a person in it so you dont get bump into the glass

Army of the dead and aftermath were closed at 7:30 PM but were open after 8:15 PM.

Aftermath has some great actors but miss when it was a huge house/maze

Army of the Dead is cool because of the sets but like 3 actors on my run. The Last room...feels like a bad idea, its just fog and flashing lights..I could not see at all and was worried about walking into something or someone

The Conjuring is a mixed bag....some parts are great but then other parts just feel random and not really anything going on. Also note this house did close down and reopen at 9:15 PM but I left before then

sewers of soul and Willoughby had 1/3 the actors of when I went last time

The alien Dance show is cool enough for something to do

Anyway, went on all houses once and a few twice and was leaving at 9 PM. There are fire towers but only as someone is entering

If you have an AP and are local...hit this event on Thursday it has no lines on anything. All houses and rides were basically walk ons

Decided to brave a Saturday night to see how it was.

Park was very crowded, parking was going to the overflow lot by 6pm. But mazes themselves? Not too bad. Willoughby's, Sewer, and Trick 'r Treat all had no waits at all as of around 9pm, and were still fully staffed (though Trick 'r Treat feels like it could use a few more scareactors). Short waits on Aftermath, Vault 666, and Truth or Dare. The longest lines were for Conjuring, Saw, and Stranger Things... but even those were maybe only using about 1/3 of their available queue space. Conjuring line moved really, really slow. Army of the Dead was closed when we stopped by, so never got around to that one.

Saw had some minor improvements, a few set design additions--notably schematics of torture devices posted on the walls. Perfect amount of fog. and sound for the queue was working (and Conjuring had sound in their queue as well). And big surprise, an interactive element! Well, it amounts to a button in the second room prominently displayed on a desk by a TV. When we pressed it, lights flashed. It wasn't much, but is was a nice surprise!

Honestly, in terms of wait times for mazes, it wasn't too different than it was in previous years. So while maybe the price hikes didn't add more guests, it didn't seem to scare that many people away, either. And the park was definitely very crowded. Tatsu had a full queue and was heading out past the gate, and most all food and shopping places were mobbed... so I suspect the park is still going to be making money on this. The only serious issue to me is that I feel the scare zones are not as full of actors as before... but again, with so much going on around the park, it's not a surprise short staffing has to appear somewhere.

Side note, Oktoberfest was still going until 9pm! So you could get there for FF and still enjoy that a bit. I feel that's a change from last year, where I thought it closed with the daytime park ops. Plus, they moved it over the Metro Park (that bar area across from Goldrusher), whis is actually a great place for it, as it's a bit self-contained and has plenty of seating.

Why do the mazes close at random times in the night?

It happens at HHN & Knotts as well. Tech issues, blood/other spill, serious incident for scareactor depending on the situation. It's normal.

Delays are usually a technical issue or scareactor placement related, but technical is the most common.

Very, very true. Although it might be just me, but doesn’t it seem like MM is experiencing more downtimes than is standard for a haunted attraction? At least from what I’ve been seeing/hearing.

Honestly, it's hard to say. I have yet to watch any POVs or go yet, so I don't have a complete picture of what/where the issues could be stemming from.

I feel like every review has referenced a maze being closed at some point when they went to go do it. I have yet to see that in a KSF or HHN review. Sounds like more than usual to me, as well.

Yeah, only a handful of reasons a maze should be going down -- biohazard, critical technical failure (i.e. all security cameras go out or complete loss of power), or severe weather. Something else is up here.

Well, yes. But a professional haunt shouldn't be shutting down a maze due to lack of staffing. That implies a staggering lack of competency at the managerial level.
