There is sound in the queue. It now sounds like an actual swamp/forrest, with cricket and bug noises. There is still some music left from the movie in the queue (Welcome to Duloc, for example) and other ambiance sounds. It's not silent at all.

I'm relieved the music is gone, it's better now.

I was going to ask that as I thought it'd make sense if its ambient with the surroundings to not take much of Hogsmeade.

The show is getting lighting and sound upgrades. Some other things that are apparently happening, but I don't know when:

Shrek summary is going away. The old moving heads in the theater were also removed in favor of new LED lighting. Sound system has been completely replaced by a QSC system.

It's still going to have a version of the preshow to at least set up the attraction, right...?

Correct, the Shrek summary in pre-show is getting axed.

Like Allen said, if they're going to put this much money into this, they might as well put in D-box sets.

Tell me about it...

If local theatres have enough cash to have a screening room with D-Box seats, Universal should be able to upgrade all its seats to D-Box seats. My office chair has a wider range of motion and is more thrilling.

That's the thing though....the D-Box seats don't have to make the attraction thrilling, but the wider range of motion would make it more immersive.

I'm guessing the only reason for axing the summary of the first Shrek film is to increase the turnaround time between each show. I'm curious how the edited preshow will look now.

Forgive me, but I actually can't remember the moving heads... Where were these located?

Jon, I'm not sure what you were referring to when you said moving heads either. Are you talking about the Mirror on the Wall in the preshow? Besides that, not sure.

EDIT: Rereading it, I think you're referring to the moving "disco-like" light rigs that would swivel in place and project shapes or colors in the main theatre, correct?

Its best to not think Mummys staying in the forseeable future.

I like the new lighting effects in the main room, they add more to it and that's what could be great. Improve on something heavily like that. And with the line being really nice looking now, i'm not disappointed in the songs being removed.

Yes, the term "moving head" refers to the light fixtures that rotate around a fixed base. You can see some examples at this link: http://www.martin.com/en-US/Product-Details/Entertainment-Lighting/Moving-Heads

After looking at the pics... the thing that bothers me is the ceiling being un-themed... I feel like if they're going to dump all this money into Shrek 4D they should've given the theatre a facelift to make it look better. Yes the new lighting effects do that, but I guess I'd like to see it not look so industrial. Its minor thing, but still...

As for the Shrek Summary being cut, I have no issue with that... however, there are SOME people who have never seen the first movie before. Its hard to believe, but its true. Now while this can't be done in the newly redone "swamp/forest" queue area, there is the area behind the building.. What am I getting at? Well they should use video screens in the queue to do the Shrek recap. I know they won't, but it is something that would be nice.

The other, cheaper & easier way they could recap Shrek is using scroll-looking banner/signs that have a pic or two retelling Shrek as if it was a fairytale. They can be placed throughout the queue.

Well, I went to check it out yesterday. As someone who has seen Shrek 4D more times than I care to admit: I thought the changes were pretty good. I like the pre-show change. With the addition of Donkey the show starts before the show starts. It's nice because you don't feel like you're waiting for nearly as long. Donkey interacts with members of the audience too. It just made it more fun for me. I know what happened in Shrek, I don't need to see it again. One thing I did miss was the gag where we watch Farquaad get eaten by Dragon over and over again.

As for the main show, I like the new lighting effects. The absence of the moving head lights was not really missed for me. The dragons fireball effects were my favorite. The fire looks like it travels along the wall. Good and unexpected update.

Here's my video =D

Hmmmm....it's odd to hear/see it like that at first, because the original preshow is engraved in my brain, but it DOES definitely move at a quicker pace. Although story wise and in the scope of the attraction, it makes absolutely zero sense to have Donkey in the preshow when he's supposed to be WITH Shrek. OH well
