Exactly. They could take it back and do literally nothing with it. But in their eyes it’s then not in the hands of their biggest competitor so it’s a win.

It’s always better to own an IP and have the rights to said IP than not, even if you aren’t going to use it as it allows you opportunities to use it down the line if they wanted. Right now they simply can’t use it.

I don't really see Disney putting up much of a fight if Universal wants to renew. Disney is making good money off of the licensing fee and merch/F&B sales as is. Given the age of the IP I don't see Disney doing anything with it. That said, with the age of the Simpson's ride system, I see Universal just letting the contract expire and retheming the 2 Springfields.

I think it's very telling how the leaked concept art for F&F has shown it cutting into Fast Food Blvd. quite a bit. It doesn't sound like they plan on keeping Simpsons and SF much longer, especially considering the age of the Simpsons ride system.

Yeah, that's sort of the thing. I'm not necessarily sure it's in Universal's best interest to renew. The ride is old as hell, is an eyesore, and both USH and USF would benefit from something new going in it's place.

Also, I can 100% see Disney doing something just to give them a parks presence. Not necessarily a ride, but if you think they wouldn't be throwing a quick build of the Simpsons house for a M&G and potentially in an unused section of the Launch Bay building (there's a lot of unused space in there), then you haven't been paying attention to Disney's IP push lately. Same for throwing a Simpsons M&G with F&B into Hollywoodland. Quick and cheap.

It's gonna be weird when the day comes and the whole BTTF/Krustyland building is gone. It's been there almost my entire life, and even if I'm ready for what comes after Simpsons to push the park forward, it's still gonna be sad to see it go after 30+ years of fond memories. Same with the Mummy; I have so much nostalgia for that building based on how I used to love ET's forest queue and riding it over and over again and how many times I've been on Revenge over the last near two decades. If the building does get scrapped to make way for a bigger ride/land space, it'll just feel so strange coming down the Starway and... no longer seeing it.

I feel like Mummy has at least three or four more years minimum so I think you'll have time. It sounds like there are too many projects in the forefront to make replacing Mummy a priority.

The buildings on that side of the hill need to be eventually replaced anyway (there's an engineering/structural reason this area of the park is being targeted). Why just rebuild what was already there?

Meh, I've always said that South Park should have been chosen to replace BTTF. People still love that show and it's not like Universal has turned down rides based on mature content (Terminator 2, TWD, etc). Maybe they could work out a deal with Matt & Trey? Think about it:

Exactly, out of the ‘big three’ (south park, Simpsons, family guy), South Park is the only one still enjoying at least a fraction of its former popularity. With Matt and Trey doing things like buying casa Bonita I could see them working out a theme park deal. They’d just have to tone the jokes down just enough to pass as somewhat family friendly. Besides, some of the funniest jokes from the show don’t even rely on the swears. A ride could be set in Cartmanland or it could ditch the theme park motif altogether and use the school bus as a ride vehicle

Unless Matt and Trey are selling out big time they have zero reasons to want to tone down South Park to fit in theme parks

The video games they made got banned in a few countries because of how R rated they love to be...hell the South Park movie is about censorship and crappy parents blaming the show for how their kids are acting.

I'd loveeee a South Park land but it has to have Matt and Trey thumps up and approve before I care and while the show is loved it would upset lots of people that it has a land in a family theme park.

Simpsons had hate back in the 90s but South Park to this day still pisses people off...while Simpsons has become the most moderate adult comedy show I can think of

USH is not going to make a South Park ride. Like ever. Even if they were able to, it would be so outrageously watered down

The best option is to tear down that Simpsons Ride building and start from scratch. The ride system is literally as old as I am.

How 'bout Universal show some balls and make the South Park area the first adult-themed area in theme park history? That'd be one way to combat the idea that theme parks are for kids and to gain an advantage over Disney. Sell some S'more Schnapps and some Tegridy!

Fun Fact: Matt & Trey have a pretty special relationship with the parks:

No. No disrespect but a rancy show like South Park anywhere near a theme park for kids is just a bad idea. And no HHN does not count.

That'd be a huge waste of two perfectly good IMAX venues. At least donate them to Christopher Nolan first.

Ethan from Theme Park Wizard is claiming he has heard a rumor that Mummy at USH is closing at the end of 2023. And in it's place would be Donkey Kong. DK would also take over the two soundstages to the left of Mummy. Has anyone else heard this rumor? And would DK take over the soundstages or would the existing footprint of the land be enough for the entire land? Theme Park Wizard has also claimed he has heard a rumor of some port of the classic monsters land from EU also taking over Mummy and the soundstages to the left of said ride.

That is a shame if they scrapped a port of the classic monsters land at EU. I am pretty sure a lot of people would have loved that on the west coast. Was there a reason why that was scrapped? And is there any chance some classic monsters ride could make it's way to USH? Also that same video Theme park wizard also discussed rumors about Bourne coming to USH but said it would be located behind the gates near the DWT that leads backstage, which makes not sense. I looked at Google maps and there would be no way to fit it in that area.

Monsters would have been cool, but I'll bet my AP that DK land makes more money on merch, the bands/games, and so on. Plus DK is pretty family friendly compared and of course a new film is coming out for DK in a few years.

I'd love a Monsters area.....if they can get more land like the rumored WB merger and use more of the studio for Monster's land

(to the people upset at Monstersland not being as relevant as DK, blame Universal not me. Literally Warewolf by Night in 50 mins has done what Universal could not with the monsters they created almost 100 years ago...name the last movie that feature a core monster....that would be the mummy)

Not to go off topic but that Werewolf by Night special did less with its similar runtime of most of the core classic Universal Monster movies. It was good for marvel standards though, something of theirs of late finally looked good aesthetically.
