I think it's pretty lame that we're doing an inward-facing firing squad over what is ultimately the result of insane amounts of consolidation in the film industry. They aren't making these movies because there's a direct line between the audience and the studio heads. They're making these movies because they believe they can spend much less money developing a sequel than they can taking a risk on a new project.
That's happening at the same time that it's never been more expensive to go to the theaters. That means people are choosier with what movies they see, which...yes, means you're more comfortable blowing $150 to take your family to see Toy Story 5 than Hoppers. Consumers are the object of history, not the subject. If it makes you feel good about yourself to proclaim that you're a better consumer than everyone else, godspeed. I just think it's badly missing the bigger picture.
