A modern Star Fox that isn’t another 64 remake that doesn’t have stupid Wii U GamePad gimmicks to push could be very cool.

I'm honestly surprised we haven't even heard rumblings about a new Star Fox yet. Even F-Zero got F-99 at least, but besides that Starlink cameo back in 2018, Star Fox hasn't been seen for almost a full decade. That's crazy for one of Nintendo's more notable brands.

I wouldn’t really call it notable as it seems even more niche than Metroid is which is saying something. I’ve heard quite a bit how much people liked Starlink (besides the toys) and how those devs would be a good fit for Star Fox.

I think there's a pretty strong chance we could see a new Star Fox this console generation, but it might be a couple years out. I don't think Nintendo is done with that franchise for good.

As sacrilege as some might think it would be to say this I think Miyamoto needs to step aside on any new Star Fox development. Everything people hated about Zero came from him. He’s great for creating the series but he doesn’t seem to have the right mindset for bringing it past his initial idea successfully.
