The biggest thing here is the writing/direction, but after that it's obviously who they cast as Freddy.

I feel like I'm in the minority that thinks Jackie Earle Haley was dealt an awful hand in the 2010 remake - I've always thought he did really well in the role. But everything else around him was garbage lol

He's a solid actor and I agree his bad cat mask and dialogue was the issue and I'd for sure give him another chance

I think they'd want to go with a younger actor at this point with the hopes they could reboot the series as a whole - but who knows! Jackie Earle Haley is 65 now lol

I've been screaming Kevin Bacon since Englund himself said he'd like to see him do it, but he is also 68 :pensive:

Slashfilm is out here swingin' for the fences and i freakin' love it.

I remember jay from red letter media said that he was supposed to work as a stand in for that movie, he said that he was talking with the cast. and Jackie Earle came to talk and said something like " I was watching the original nightmare movie, what an awful movie" or something like that
that bothered me so much

I’m gonna be real…unless it’s Robert England willing to give the role one last go, I’m apathetic unless it looks really good. Anything to get Freddy back at HHN I guess.

From the sounds of things, there's dueling developments going on between WB and Paramount.

WB's developing a film which they hope is directed by Lee Cronin, while Paramount is developing a shot-for-shot remake of the first film which somehow has the blessing of the Wes Craven estate...thus tarnishing the estate in my mind.

I’m gonna be real: neither option sounds too exciting for me. Obviously I would much rather have the Lee Cronin option as we just had a shot-for-shot remake 16 years ago….and it wasn’t great.

I don't like either choice. I really don't want more evil dead but a straight remake is not great
the good answer is just let cronin
but I think if those are my choices I pick remake. ( I really don't like mummy)

Not sure if they have anyone cast in the titular role yet but after watching Evil Dead Burn I thought Erroll Shand would make a good Freddy.

Edit: While I'm not a big fan of the Terrifier movies personally, I've seen a couple of them, and I also gotta second those who say David Howard Thornton would also be good in the role.

I think at this point, they need to cast someone younger for Freddy. Shand would be cool to see but he's 53 years old lol

Robert Englund was in his mid 30s in the first NOES movie, so I think it'd be a good idea to go that route. Especially since I'm sure they're hoping for multiple movies to come out of this!

Ya, good point! And you know what it's funny because I almost put a caveat in my post to say "unless they want to cast someone younger.." lol.

So...David Howard Thornton then? Caleb Landry Jones could also be interesting...

Almost 47 years old! lol

It'll be cliche to say, but Jamie Campbell Bower is almost exactly the same age Englund was in the first movie..
