Alice Cooper Calls Gender-Affirming Care for Trans Kids a ‘Fad,’ Condemns ‘the Whole Woke Thing’

Alice Cooper called transgender healthcare for kids a "fad" in a new interview. See what he said.
www.billboard.com www.billboard.com

And I wish Alice Cooper didn't say what he said back in August of 2023.

I wonder if Scarecrow might get a sequel sooner than later. With how often they use the Crowz, and how The Reaping is being brought back this year; part of me wonders if Murdy might want to continue exploring the avenue of the dust bowl era.

Or atleast, to look at other concepts and give them similar approaches like The Darkest Deal.
__

Also i wonder if the reason why the walls are the tallest in the second half for this house, is because La Llorona will effectively take the same position that El Cucuy had; with facades like the Mausoleum coming into place.

I mean, I'm obviously not thrilled about Cooper's comments here, but are we really going to try to "gotcha" this when the Wizarding World exists? Hell, even some of the other principals involved with Horror Nights IPs this year have a history of controversial (read: bad) comments or actions.

Are you planning on attending this year? Cause if y’all really don’t want the types of people like Alice Cooper involved with HHN anymore I’d start by staying home this year first.

All this La Llorona talk has me thinking of how insane the 2012 house was. I'm not opposed to having her back in this iteration, though. FWIW I've enjoyed the Monstruos houses so far but won't mind a break after this year.

I also just think Alice Cooper will inevitably get his house trilogy finished. Murdy seems adamant about it, and he's a huge fanboy of his. It'll probably happen when the time is right.

Look, I get what others are saying, this isn't a call out or anything, but all I'll say is that I get it. It's rough right now.

I dont think its really a gotcha so much as saying "the time for that has passed" It's not HHN fans' fault that corporate universal is spineless and wants to give money to awful people, the most they can do is not buy food or merch in that section of the park that directly goes into those peoples pockets.
The point of raising awareness of this kind of thing is in hopes that the general public doesn't just accept it when they do it again. The public putting their money where their mouth is is the only way these kinds of things don't go unchecked.

Please feel free to list the significant figures involved in this years event who share those same kinds of views so people can choose to boycott if they please. As far as I'm aware there are none, but like I said above, awareness is the only real way to combat these kinds of issues. Being flippant about real harm being done by major public figures helps nobody.

Off the top of my head, J.K. Rowling, Scott Cawthorn, Damien Leone. The gravity and immediacy of their unpleasantness obviously varies, but this conversation started because Alice Cooper made unfortunate and misguided comments about trans people (which, by the way, resulted in real consequences - he was dropped by an LGBT cosmetics company he had a deal with).

That said, I do not in any way think Cooper's comments would preclude a final maze if Murdy got the top brass on board.

I just don't know productive these conversations are. You can find a controversial or icky remark or action linked to just about anyone who's achieved a certain level of success and/or wealth. And more to your point, the number of people who would be willing to boycott a horror event over something like this is minuscule and extremely unlikely to have any real impact. (See, again, the continued success of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter).

I'm not saying they would preclude anything, the fact Universal keeps building potter lands proves that, I'm just saying its important for people to know where their money is going, "no ethical consumption" means "know what youre doing and minimize personal harm done", not "Don't think about it".
I think especially with the significant portion of the fans and behind the scenes putting these events together being queer, it's especially important to not minimize things said against those groups by rich people who likely won't face genuinely significant consequences for contributing to a growing atmosphere of hate.
I'm not saying any of this to bash anyone who doesn't think about these things daily, I'm just saying awareness is important, and not acting like these things dont matter to a lot of people is equally important.

Fair enough.

I will repeat my point: This year, you've gotta swallow the indirect or direct involvement of J.K. Rowling, Scott Cawthorn, and Damien Leone. That's in addition to the unavoidable involvement of Comcast itself as a corporate entity.

Expanding on this a bit: I am sympathetic to the cognitive dissonance that comes with wanting to enjoy art that doesn't intersect with or is tainted by cruel, hateful, or cowardly powerful people. Unfortunately, that just cannot be accomplished when you're dealing with theme parks or any corporate-approved art at this scale.

Well lol I don’t think I’d consider myself as being flippant at all about these issues but I’d highly recommend looking into Damien Leone. I will not be attending any further Horror Nights events that include him & his franchise. I’ll only speak for myself but I can’t & won’t support HHN as long as he is involved.

Not sure if this is getting too far down a rabbit hole, but my understanding is that JK Rowling is obviously very vocally anti-trans, Scott Cawthorn is a religious conservative and has donated to various similar politicians, and there are definitely plenty of WWE folks who skew in that direction as well. To my knowledge, however, Damien Leone has not said anything similar - he did issue a statement basically saying Terrifier is non-political, in response to the main two stars both being vocally liberal/anti-Trump, but I don't believe he has taken any anti-trans views. I could be wrong.

Anyway...Monstruous 3, should be good, lol. I know it would be a repeat but I didn't get to go to Hollywood in 2022 so I would be very happy to see those giant La Llorona puppets back so I could see them in person.

I would also add that I don't think it's a useful substitute for meaningful political action. We've been doing this for more than 10 years and it's clear that bringing up awareness to abhorrent views doesn't make the person speaking them, nor their ideas, less powerful. Donald Trump is literally president again. They're still making Harry Potter attractions. Louis CK is touring for goodness' sakes.

I'd argue, if anything, the vocal online backlash ("""cancel culture""" for want of a better term) actually made things worse. The backlash to the backlash has been, well, not great Bob.

I'm not saying we shouldn't condemn views that harm people, but I am saying that the personal isn't political. Buying a Harry Potter book, or not buying it, is not a political act. I understand that people feel completely powerless to do anything to improve the world when consumerism is basically all we have left, but I just don't think this kind of thing actually changes anything.
