Three live action Lego movies are in development at Universal. They are being helmed by Jake Kasdan, Patty Jenkins, and Joe Cornish. In addition there is also a live action Ninjago movie in the works as well which seems to be the furthest along in development.

Live action…? Like… full on stop motion with Legos, or human actors portraying Legos? I can see live action Ninjago working really well, but what would the other movies be? Live action The Lego Movie wouldn’t work at all, and live action Lego Batman or whatever would just be a normal movie. I’m struggling to understand what they’re going for here.

These movies are completely unrelated to the WB Lego movies (so no Emmett or Wildstyle) and will presumably be original stories. Hopefully they find an angle beyond just another fish-out-of-water story a la Barbie or Minecraft. I gotta say though, not super impressed yet.

Probably actors motion captured as lego characters

WB owns the rights to their lego movies so obviously these Universal movies would be ground up 100% original.

Have they learned nothing from the reception to the Minecraft trailer?

Barbie has the exact same story. The idea isn't the problem, it's the execution.

I’m guessing the angle they’re going at it also is more using the brands of LEGO to create original stories. Not necessarily having to use the concept of LEGO on a literal level (and given the vastness of themes that can be explored; like what I imagine is going to be the case for Ninjago).
