it's also worth noting that Fast Lane queues for some rides (GhostRider) are absolutely nuts on Scary Farm nights. getting on rides is a bonus if you have Fast Lane, not a guarantee. I'm also not sure it's strictly necessary for the event, but time will tell if I regret going without this year!

How well do the Fast Lane lines move in general for the mazes? I had a friend who has been a few times with Fast Lane and he said he has only had time for the mazes with barely any time left over. I find that very hard to believe considering even on a sold out Saturday night, some of the older mazes will have a 5 minute wait and even some of the newer ones could be 20 minutes. I asked if he's getting there late, but he didn't really know how to respond, so maybe he doesn't know when the event starts and just randomly goes at some point in the night, spends a lot of time doing dinner, or is just really bad at navigating the park lol

Yeah

I never try for Ghost rider at the event...unless you get on it as soon as it opens.....ever since I've gone that ride is always just insane

that certainly hasn't been my experience. we went in 2021 with fast lane and had a very leisurely evening. we went without fast lane last year and only waited a significant time for Grimoire (45 minutes, I think).

No need for fast lane for ghost rider if you get Boofet AT the park, ijs. Start your night off early and ride it after eating, then move back to the mazes behind the gate as they run before the actual opening time, then go as far as you can into the park and walk towards the front. That's my strategy everytime

I am very excited to go back and see how things change as the season progresses. Last night our group had a great time. The Chilling Chambers is probably my favorite of the new mazes as it is truly a love letter to Knott's Scary Farm. I think some of the references will get lost on guests or people who don't know/care about the history of the event, which is a bummer, but as a fan I loved it.

Cinema Slasher was also phenomenal. The transition scenes were clever and again, I love that each "film" was a nod to a past maze/attraction. I think this one will end up being positively reviewed by most people.

Room 13 has a great story, and I love Gore-ing 20's zone, but I think I'll need a few more walkthroughs before I land on a final thought about the maze. FWIW, this was the longest Fast Lane line of the night.

There are a few tweaks to other mazes like The Depths and Wax Works. Nothing major, but small things that are at least a little different. Most notably is Bloodline obviously not having the guns. It's much better without it, but still needs some fine tuning I think.

The lanterns are fun, but there was so much to do last night that we barely had a chance to mess with it. It does change colors in the mazes every now again and there is a pretty awesome activation in Forsaken Lake. Looking forward to seeing some of the other things it can do.

I'm hoping to pop back in there a few times this weekend so we'll see how it goes!

Genuinely curious about this since obviously haven't gotten the chance to see it. Wouldn't it be more derivative of Horror Hotel if anything?

I went solo to Scary Farm last night and I still had a great time! Didn't get the lantern so I will probably get it on my next visit. Here are my thoughts:

Finally had the chance to check out then Legacy store. It is easily on-par with HHN Orlando's tribute stores. I will go to Orlando in mid-October, but do I dare say that, from the few bits I've seen of Orlando's tribute store this year, this looks better? They went above and beyond way more than I thought. Very well-designed store.

Before I talk about the mazes, I want to talk about my gameplan. I went pretty much what I said I would do, though in the moment of a brainfart I forgot about Origins and went straight to Room 13 after hitting Grimoire first. Probably would've done Origins first had I gone back, but my gameplan went really well! I am now a firm believer in Grimoire first, then working clockwise saving the backstage mazes for the end. Got the four done in less than 40 min! Admittedly it started off a little rough at first. Grimoire had a delayed opened and the longest I waited was Room 13 at 45 min. Everything else had a wait for 15 minutes or less. As the night progressed, the waits were shorter and managed to see all 10 mazes and the Hanging with about an hour to spare! Okay, now to the mazes in order of which I accomplished:

The Grimoire: Only saw this once last year so it still was fairly fresh for me. I read a post that apparently people were rushing through and there wasn't a preshow? Well I think I may potentially have the answer as to why. I think we were like the fifth or sixth group that was let in first and after the little show as over, when they were trying to rush people through, one guy tripped and fell pretty bad over the camp fire. I think I saw the same guy from a distance later in the night so I think he was fine. But one of the campers had to break character to get one of the ops. Awkward situation but I'm glad he's apparently okay. Well anyway, I got some really good jumps in here. Not to mention the maze is well-designed. Very creative.

Room 13: Really liked this. Cast was great and that balcony scene was really cool. It was the kind of scene that used a visual trick that HHN Orlando has done several times that I wish Hollywood would pick up. Anyway this was cool and I liked this. The excelsior room at the end was pretty cool as well.

Cinema Slasher: Afterwards I got my coffee boost so I decided to wait in line for this to kill a little time to finish my coffee. This is very much a worthy successor to dark ride. I was a little afraid it would feel too familiar using inspiration from Trick or Treat and Slaughterhouse, both are mazes which I grew tired of. I'm pleased to say that this felt very fresh and very impressive. I got some great scares in here as the talent was once again on a roll! The Camp Gonnagetcha area was the most visually impressive scene I've seen KSF do in a long time. That section felt like a somewhat lower budget HHN Orlando house and I mean that in a good way. I was getting some Dead Man's Pier vibes in there. Once again, Jon Cooke strikes gold. Easily my favorite.

Mesmer: While beautiful scenically, I'm just gonna say it: I think this maze is a little overhyped. I never seem to get a great runthrough of this. Eh, it's fine. At least it looks cool

Origins: Still my favorite of the repeats. Got an okay runthrough but still think this maze rocks on its set design.

Bloodline: Much, much better without the guns. I could actually stop and admire the scenic. Another maze where the talent was great. Aside from the very first room, they basically kept the whole maze the same as it was just without the guns. It really needs to be tweaked for just a regular maze. The pacing and soundbites made it clear this was a shooting maze without the guns. Hope they tweak that.

Dark Entities: I'm ready for this to leave but I got the best runthrough I've had in a while. It was in pretty good shape for its last year.

Wax Works: I liked it. Great runthrough. That's all.

Depths: Again, final year and unfortunately the boat stopped rocking. :( Got a decent runthrough otherwise.

The Chilling Chambers: The first room in the mortuary was another visually impressive scene. It was unapologetically for KSF fans. I love how the classics were all represented, but I was a little confused what maze the Club Chupacabra was. Was that a maze from the 90's I don't know about? Anyway it felt like a smaller-scale HHN Orlando anniversary house. Very detailed and very long. What a well-done tribute to KSF.

The Hanging: Well, this show is exactly what you expect. Kinda shocked at some of the stuff they got away with, especially the uncensored f-bombs. I am glad it's back though. Loved how they mocked the bag policy and no-boo necklace.

Overall a very well-put together 50th anniversary celebration. This is probably the best year I've seen in years with the talent. The Monsters this year have been really good in my experience last night and I even got better scares from them than at HHN! Without the use of audio triggers! I really, really enjoyed KSF this year and can't wait to go back! Do I dare say I had more fun at KSF this year than HHN?

Party-goers turned into hideous monsters; the affects of substance use amplified to horrific extremes. It’s a mixture of extravagance/decadence with the violence. The subtext is identical. The key difference is The Weeknd had a modern club setting and this one has a ‘20s club setting.

I mean tbf, supernatural factors being used as a metaphor for substance abuse is nowhere near new for either of them, especially when you factor in roaring 20s decadence meeting repression, especially since theyre really not making it subtle calling it the devils elixir when drinking and hedonism are pretty blatant sins that go hand in hand with a time of economic excess. I can kinda see where youre coming from in thinking that maybe it's kinda a basic concept, but I'm not really sure how else they couldve done it especially in the parameters of Goreing 20s.

It’s not merely the concept, though. There are entire scenes and structures that are extremely reminiscent of The Weeknd. People passed out at party tables in clubs who jump out and scare you; puke scenes; transformation scenes. If you change the overlay aesthetic (roaring ‘20s versus whatever you wanna call it today), the similarities are nearly 1:1.

I only did the mazes that were new to me (Bloodline 182, The Grimoire, Room 13, Chilling Chambers, and Cinema Slasher) and Mesmer, because I did like it in 2021. Liked it again this time, too.

For the rest, the only one really worth talking about is Cinema Slasher. It’s a smash. Total home run. It has lots of meta elements but also has plenty of originality, too, which isn’t easy to balance. But they pull it off. There’s a scene at the very end (won’t spoil) that’s just phenomenal. 10/10 material.

Second favorite was probably Chilling Chambers. I liked the character (shout out Monte Revolta) but the concept was a bit lost on me. This is one where you just kinda sit back and enjoy the ride.

Room 13 borrows a lot — and I mean A LOT — from HHN’s Weeknd maze. Very derivative. Grimoire was disjointed. Apparently there’s supposed to be a pre-show and then some other narrative interludes, but we didn’t get any of that, so I had no idea what was happening. Bloodline was dull. Steampunk is such a tired aesthetic, and we went full stretches without seeing any actors, which struck me as extremely strange given it was media night and there were cameras out.

Speaking of scare actors, the KSF philosophy is one of the things that turns me off the most here. At HHN, the actors don’t vocalize or engage in conservation with you, but here, they’re screaming, taking pictures with people, etc. The thing is, whenever a monster or ghost or whatever vocalizes in a movie or show, there’s usually something done on the actor’s voice to create an effect that makes it sound otherworldly and, ya know, scary.

But at KSF, it’s just dudes screaming, which isn’t even remotely scary — it’s just annoying. And they try to cover that up by saying spooky things, or growling or something, but it just does not work. I can only take so many bearded clowns following me and screaming stuff like “I wanna eat your brains” in a dorky voice before I’ve had enough. It’s like being trapped in a flash mob.

Ghost Town and the sliders are always cool and there was a guy in The Gauntlet who was crab-walking like a pro. But other than that, the scare zones are mostly dumb.

The crowd was pretty small, which was good. When we did Bloodline, every house in that area was a walk-on, including Bloodline, and it was only 10:30pm. That probably won’t stick, but it was nice. If I had any interest in doing those houses, I would have been stoked.

All in all a very mid evening that I’m glad I got to experience for free.

Holy crap! What are the odds? No joke. That was me! I also went solo. We should've met up. Now that you know what I look like, don't be afraid to say hi if you see me next time. Also, thanks for your concern for a stranger who turns out to be an IU member!

I was at the back of the group in that room. They were rushing us through the tent (I know that's part of the story) and since we were all huddled together, I wasn't looking down so I tripped over the campfire and ate it. My left elbow broke my fall. I was stunned at first and you're right, the actors had to break character to make sure I was ok.

I shook it off and carried on. After a bit, I was wondering why my left sleeve was wet. I looked at my right hand and noticed it was all bloody. I kept clutching my left elbow the whole way through to apply pressure to stop the bleeding. As I exited the maze, an associate apparently followed me the entire way since she saw me clutching my elbow. She was kind enough to walk me to first aid.

I lost almost an hour of rope-drop so that ruined my game plan so I had to wing it the rest of the night. I managed to do all of the mazes except for Mesmer. I'll give my thoughts on them after a second visit.

Music, Monsters and Mayhem is a fun variety show. It's quite raunchy, which I didn't expect but that's not a bad thing. It ran longer than expected at about 40 min. Dr. Cleaver Returns was a dud. Short show that revolves around one unimpressive magic trick. Tried twice but failed to see The Hanging. I got there too late. Seems you need to be there close to when doors open.

Gotta agree with @Spookies n' Stuff. The lantern helps the monsters see you coming, whether through dense fog when you can't see at all or coming around corners in the mazes. I've never been targeted so much and I think the lantern helped with that.

Crowd wise, I'm enjoying KSF far better than HHN. Will likely be back Sunday.

That's if you're stuffing yourself silly. If you have a regular meal, drink a bit more water than usual, wait until it opens and it's not even a worry. Hate it all you want, but this strategy has gotten me through fully booked events before
