If the top hat is expected to be about 170ft, I could see at least 75mph to clear it but with Iron Gwazi expected to be 76mph and Mako is 73mph, I wouldn't be surprised if Universal have made a push for 77mph+ to claim the fastest coaster in Florida title.

That could happen. Maverick's second launch at Cedar Point is 70mph but it is immediately followed by trim brakes because it's too fast for the next section of the course. I think Cedar Point just wanted the 70 mark for promotional purposes.

The recreation I'm working on is 70mph and ~160ft tall. Any faster than that and the forces would be a bit too excessive in the second half I think.

This is what makes me think that a 170ft top hat would be crazy. Not the height but the speed required and there's not a lot of track after it and the train will be hauling ass when it comes to the barrel roll or quick side to side in front of the Discovery Center.

I hope that there's no trim brakes.

For other reference, here's Zaturn with a 200ft tall top hat and a 80mph launch:

Here's Taiga with a 170ft top hat in the middle and a launch of 65mph:

So there's plenty of variation but I'm thinking that this will be more similar to Taiga.

We also don't know what the trains will be like just yet if they will have speakers and batteries or anything else adding weight.

70mph is way, way higher than I thought it would be. Neither Disney or Universal courts the super thrill fans. I know I would be a little hesitant to ride if this ended up being the most extreme coaster in Orlando

You know this is a good thrill ride when I’m a little nervous already for my first ride

I think everybody needs to remember that it’s launching from an underground tunnel, so it’s going to require some extra speed to get it up and over even a 160 ft top hat. I’d expect this coaster to exceed 70 mph on the second launch and for it to be the most extreme coaster in Orlando.

Seriously??? Never would've guessed. I guess that's why I've always been too chicken to go on it

Listed at 65 but I know a guy.... worked it for quite a while and he swears that it will do 68 or more on a good day.

This. Taiga is probably a good comparison, but it's launch is much higher in height than Velocicoaster's, making the run up to the peak much shorter.

It's very exciting the top hat isn't just a one trick pony for this ride, it delivers more thrills than that.
And the theming, that is what makes me happy. Still excited that this is a new ride on land that wasn't used before adding serieus capacity and even more fun to an already amazing theme park.

Question for @RollermanDan: In your newest video on this, there's a bunch of silver-colored supports. Are those for the coaster itself or are they more rockwork stuff like we've already seen installed in the spaghetti bow portion

Apologies if off-topic, but does anyone know roughly how close the track swings by the Hogshead outdoor terrace?

And any conventional wisdom on whether Rowling had to sign off on allowing it?

I'd say about 15 ft or so, but that is the part closest to the water so it won't normally be seen unless you're really looking. I don't know if there needed to be any approvals but if there was any it'd be a 3D visual presentation they could show how it's not seen in the rest of the land and not seen from the patio any more than the rides in other islands.

Ah! I forgot how tall that terrace is above the waterline.

I suppose it may end up being more of an auditory intrusion as opposed to a visual one. Can always just chalk up any shrieking to a dementor attack.

Correct. You could already see the rest of the park including Hulk from that patio. This will up the noise on that patio, but I doubt you will be able to see or even hear it from the main drag of Hogsmeade

I’m assuming that Universal still do balloon height tests.

It would be cool if, instead of netting over the bridge, they turn the bridge into a covered bridge.

With sides that are more open than closed? I'm for that.

It is strange the way that was constructed with the beams being laminated on site. Might have been for the crane traffic but still unusual construction.
