Not to drag the topic into another topic, BUT, if the parks are closed thru the summer and they can keep doing construction without park guests, how do they NOT open this earlier than anticipated? I know they can’t have large crews but it really seems this is coming along so fast and if they’re closed for literally 4-5 months I don’t see how they can’t get at least a month ahead on this entirely.

Also
Just imagine for the average Universal guests/local who isn’t aware of Velocicoaster, were there before the parks closed with it not being totally obvious it’s a coaster, and coming back opening weekend to see an entire new Coaster resurrected haha. The confusion for some would be hilarious!

Because some construction just takes time. Concrete can only set so fast for example

Besides, if anything it might take longer since they can't have a large crew

Ya I totally understand both points. I’m just curious if there are ways to still have those going on but get lots and lots of “smaller” items checked off. Im
Obviously no expert in construction haha

Because, it was never about getting it done fast, it has always been about opening it when they felt was the right time to do so.

I'm just glad to see them apparently staying on schedule, so far.

Building around an open park isn't what was stopping this opening sooner.

Most of the lagoon footers seem to be done. Also the frame for the coaster shed is going up now

Well depends on how much OTHER stuff there is to do. If they need to fly someone in from Europe to help program the ride, well, that's not happening. Or if the fabrication shops for the rockwork, scenery, etc are not open they can't install that either. That then pushes back time tables for the attraction and causes issues.

Very true, I figured track installation shouldn't be extremely difficult to due in this, at least getting some pieces in or the launch pieces in. But ya they are a lot of varying cases. I love learning stuff on here like this cause the scope of what it takes to build these things is just so big. Even if this project isn't ginormous like that is many factors in general comping together for one final concept. Pieces of the puzzle, cool stuff

That logic likely extends to when they started as well, with the winter before Hagrid's opening possibly being an optimal time to close of areas of Jurassic as Hagrid absorbs the extra capacity. Of course, lots of it also has to do with extending the budget across a certain timeframe and also opening with the release of the (now presumably delayed) third JW film.

EDIT: That's just guesswork on my part

The speculation is they wanna open it around when JW3 comes out right? I wonder if the delay in filming could effect that

I think 2021 is cemented regardless, but I do think the original plan was for them to coincide

Skyrush's lapbars are an abomination, but by all accounts Taron is comfortable as heck, so I think this was just an issue with the Skyrush design.

Not to bring up a point from too far back but I wanted to chime in and say that Taron's restraints look similar to the ones in use on Flying Aces at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi (Flying Aces - Ferrari World Abu Dhabi (Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates)) which seems to be the second gen Skyrush (so it features inversions etc). I got a chance to ride Flying Aces in January and if this coaster is like Flying Aces, we have nothing to worry about. They were incredibly comfortable and very open to the point where I completely forgot they were there.

Taron's are evolved from Flying Aces, and people generally consider them to be some of the best trains and restraints out there. I'm far from worried about comfort on this ride.

Not sure the next time I'll be at Universal since I have a 1 year old and will probably be going to Disney until he's older/taller to ride the rides at IOA, but this coaster is going to drastically change the view when you first walk into the park.

For the better, imo. Brings a little bit more life to the other side of the lagoon

Even if it is visually unappealing, unlike HRRR, this will be something fun.

Not to double post but to give reference to the timescale for this coaster compared to Hagrid's.

Hagrid's started installing track in mid April 2018 and the track was pretty much finished minus the drop section by late July. So roughly about 3 months to install the track and although I imagine that Hagrid's is longer and more complex, the JP coaster is probably a more challenging build with taller heights and more awkward angles.

Obviously, Hagrid's will be significantly more themed in complexity and scale, not to mention the multiple coaster elements, the coaster opened about 11 months later. Call it 9 months for the JP coaster and you're looking at an April 2021 opening.

I‘m not saying it will be open by then. Just comparing timelines.
