825 FOREST ROAD is an okay new offering on Shudder from the guy who created the HELL HOUSE LLC movies (which I've enjoyed). A couple of decent scares and an interesting story structure. Nothing anybody hasn't seen before, though.

Just saw Tesis (Thesis, 1996). Similar to Red Rooms, but more of a mystery thriller than a meditation. A college student accidentally stumbles on a snuff film, and tries to discover who's behind it.

There's a lot of glaring plot holes (like, wouldn't you just go to the cops immediately?), but if you're willing to overlook them and just go along for the ride, it's actually surprisingly decent. It did keep me guessing. And like Red Rooms, most of the violence is not really seen, but more heard, so it's not really much of a gorefest. The ending also had a pretty clever and wry commentary on violence in the media.

Sadly, it's really hard to find... we had to rent it from Vidiots. It doesn't really seem to currently be streaming anywhere.

Samara Weaving and Ray Nicholson knock it out of the freaking park in Borderline. Nicholson is pitch perfect as an absolutely demented weirdo lost in the sea of confusion inside his own head while Weaving is hilarious as a sarcastic, somewhat aloof 90s pop star. What a great, oddball, surreal trip down Obsession lane. Best credits take since Pearl.

Welp. There's our on again/off again HHN rumor lol *sigh* But seriously, just make it a sequel rather than remake.

I think a sequel with the Chiodo Bros at the helm would have gotten just as much buzz, if not more, than a remake

that sequel was doomed and a remake might be the only way to achieve something.
the sequel was not going anywhere.

Was able to see an early screening of Sinners and it is fantastic. Definitely more on the "gothic" side of horror -- like it's not scary or suspenseful moment to moment. It's closer to something like Beloved or Interview with the Vampire. But the moments where it does go for pure horror are great, and the overall atmosphere and style is amazing.

SINNERS is crammed full of ideas and genres, perhaps to a fault, which makes it a lot to digest, but it is unquestionably one of the year's great cinematic experiences.

If you like vampire movies* (and/or the Blues!), see it on the biggest screen you can find.

* Just know going in that most of the vampire mayhem is in the back half.

Dead Talents Society is a Taiwanese horror comedy I've been looking forward to since it wheeled around the film festival circuit and received some rave reviews (most notably from Bekah on the Colors of the Dark Podcast, which you should be listening to if you're a horror fan!). For some unknown reason it just unexpectedly showed up on Netflix recently and it lived up to my hype!

Dead Talents Society centers around an afterlife wherein ghostly urban legends achieve celebrity status, becoming popular divas the more cultural influence they have on the living with their haunting. When a newly deceased young woman faces the consequences of being forgotten by the un-dead, she falls under the tutelage of one of the most popular spirit divas in the afterlife who herself has just been betrayed by her last protege.

The film is effortlessly hilarious and so endearing and full of heart it is hard not to just love it outright. The cast is amazing, from the past-her-prime but still caring top Ghostress to the naive, innocuous Rookie to the former pop-star turned afterlife agent to the array of supporting characters that bring so much joy and color to the movie. While it is just a touch long, the film always stays moving and when it's not making you laugh, it's yanking on your heartstrings. The message here is so, so good and really needs to be heard by just about everyone with a pulse.

If you enjoy films like One Cut of the Dead and Beetlejuice, Dead Talents Society will be right up your alley, can not recommend it enough!

It was a lot of fun. Like others on the forum have said, the back end is just begging to be a maze at horror nights.
