I am happy to see that a lot of people are enjoying this ride, but my opinion differs a bit after having been on the ride just once. I personally feel that this ride sacrifices clear and cohesive story telling for visual spectical. I got off the ride thinking that is certainly is impressive, but what really just happened? I know the basic plot, but how we got to some of the story beats just feels either rushed or "phoned in". Again, this is only my personal thoughts on the ride and I have only done it once. But based on that ride experience I can't see myself waiting more than about 45 mins for the ride and I know that means I will not be on it again for a very long time.
I feel very similar! The queue was absolutely amazing and worth all the hype it's getting. I was wide-eyed the entire way through it (once when I just walked the queue, and then again the second time when I was there for the ride). the purple tile section is the same two-tone shades of purple that I painted my parlour at home, so bonus points for good taste
The story of the ride is a complete mess. I could write five pages on the alleged 'plot' of this ride and why it's terrible. Honestly, I could probably get to eight pages. It felt like someone wrote the general gist of it on the back of a cocktail napkin and that's about as far as the writing went.
But ultimately, the plot of Forbidden Journey is silly and nonsensical, as well, but I still love the ride because the ride is
fun. I will ride it 3-4 times in a row every trip because it's a blast and you feel the magic in the ride. Even with the outdated screens, I think the ride is great and gorgeous.
MoM is technically and mechanically impressive, but I got off the ride thinking, "umm, okay, I guess?" I personally didn't think it was particularly fun, exciting, or interesting. Maybe some parts were down that I didn't know about, but basically the whole 'thrill' part was just jiggling up and down a little bit in front of scenes (again, the animatronics and some of the screen scenes looked great). I was definitely expecting more excitement on the ride. Like, they even pulled the same
arresto momentum as Gringott's, but in a way more boring way on MoM.
If the story of the ride is going to be so weak, you need to make up for it with some other feature, and I never felt particularly wowed by anything in front of me. There was one scene (right after Dolores's escape) in the not-Room of Requirement where I thought, wow, this is pretty, but that was it.
