With all of the hype and good word of mouth behind the new Resident Evil game, I’m surprised they’re apparently not doing it this year. The new game could’ve made for a baller house!

I’m even more surprised considering we had two video game-based IPs last year and now we’re not having any this year….well Hellraiser will be video game adjacent but I don’t think it will be based on the game.

Evil Dead Burn could probably make for a good house but again I’m really surprised they aren’t hopping in the Resident Evil train this year. You would think this would be the time to do it.

I hear ya, but I don't think either of those IPs happen without the successful movie / TV shows that accompanied them.

I mean… when houses are locked months before games come out, it’s extremely difficult to plan around the response to a game or film. It’s one of the reasons why a film like Sinners doesn’t end up at HHN the year it came out but instead the following year.

Oh I understand that. I know I said that the new game could make for a good house, but even then, you would think Universal would still want to base the house on the older material at least. There’s already a lot to work with.

Thus, I digress.

Has anyone discussed a video game IP zone?

I could see Resident Evil next year depending on how the Cregger movie does

While I can agree with that, there's just one snag. Anything I've heard about that film is they really let Cregger take as much creative liberties as possible...so it's not really resembling Resident Evil at this point.

Eh. From what I was seeing, it’s basically a new story in the Resident Evil universe. He’s not trying to retell a story from the games. I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

Also, the story of the resident evil games, is, uh, not very good. I'm sure as long as they include some of the iconic elements like the licker or Umbrella, then it'll be fine.

I was going to say, taking the vibe of the games and jettisoning everything else can only be positive.

We had two different sets of movies that either started hewing closer to the games with disastrous results (love to have a massive villain from the series die by getting his foot crushed by a door as a side-note, great stuff!) or just fail to juggle the elements from the start.

The first Resident Evil movie is good because it did its own thing, to the point where the games started referencing it. There's plenty of spin-offs in the game series where it's not following the relative main cast and screwing around with one-off people instead. The Outbreak games were so notable that Capcom pulled from it for 9 and that was just following some random Raccoon City civilians with no real connection to the narrative's general main cast. I've got faith in this, especially with a great director involved that's shown he knows how to blend serious moments with more goofy melodrama.

If you're just gonna take the 'vibe' of a property and tell a story 'set in the same universe', just create a new property.

The Resident Evil games are goofy, over the top, sometimes intentionally funny, sometimes unintentionally funny but also can be horrifying and frightening in equal measure. There's no reason why a faithful adaptation of a single RE story is impossible and, while I am excited to see Cregger's take because I loved Weapons, I am disappointed to see an adaptation of something I love in name only (supposedly).

I would sooner understand an argument that most RE game installments individually are too packed to fit in a single feature length film but throwing dirt on the franchise as somehow having a lesser story strikes me as confounding, especially give how lacking some of the story-lines in the most popular horror film franchises are.

If RE: Requiem came out 3 or 4 months earlier, I think there'd be a solid chance of it coming this year. It might be a positive for not coming though, because they'd probably have to clean up a lot of urine just based off of
The Girl
and
Chunk
.

As far as the "this year is a bigger lineup" talk - I've kinda learned at this point to not expect things to get bigger every year. At a certain point, there's a ceiling on his big the IPs at the event can really get lol (especially when most of them have already been there before!)

How have the Ted rumors been holding up? The new season came out a few days ago. It's also the final season (the way it ends alludes to it and Seth himself has said he has no plans to do anymore). I binged it over the weekend and loved it, but I still can't see how they can make the character work successfully at a "PG-13" event.

Admittedly I've never seen the Ted tv series but I did see the movie when it came out 14 years ago. I imagine they would just water down some of the raunchier content like how they've done with Chucky. Chucky is similarly very R-rated but they've managed to find a way to make him PG-13 so I don't think it would be too hard for them do the same with Ted.

I would enjoy a Hatchet house because of the swampy environment, but I think knowing Pinhead the clue might be more abstract.

But a lot of people do just like to vibe with things they know! Having plot beats and iconic moments can make a good house just as much as a large story house like El Artista last year. I think RE would do well as the "iconic moments" house.
