Agreed with this, honestly the idea of a Sinners house makes me very nervous in general. I loved it dearly, was one of my top 3 movies of the year, but you could only really use about 50% of the material in the film. The first half is essentially a crime drama set in the south (also the stronger part of the movie, fight me), so you have like an hour of run time to work with.

They've done more with less at HHN.

I also agree about the first half being better. I really enjoyed the first half... great writing, acting, cinematography, music, took risks/chances on a scene or two and for me it paid off. The second half is derivative; nothing unique or special, and to me it didn't mesh well with the first half. It's like getting lobster and pouring Heinz Ketchup on it.

So which house is going to be the El Artiste/ Winter’s Wake atmospheric masterpiece house?

I think we’re way too early in spec season to even have any idea for that.

I can't help but feel like if they could make From Dusk Till Dawn work, then they can very much certainly get Sinners to work. I actually think there is a good amount you can pull, with expanding upon the various Death/Conversion sqeuences ontop of specific iconic moments of the film.

Could there be better IP's? Sure, but I think getting Sinners while the iron is hot is better now than to let it fizzle and die.

Sinners is probably my most anticipated of the rumored IPs but could easily end up being another Fallout if the house design feels too spread out. You need a more open musical scene or two (I Lied to You and Rocky Road to Dublin?), but the rest should be tight quarters with an ending in flames.

I think the Rocky Road to Dublin scene for the house might be a unique case to where we might have two scenes in one.

The first, being the conversion and deaths of the Club Juke patrons who leave after Stack's death, and then the other scene being that of the Rocky Road to Dublin in full ernestness. Think if there is a scene where you can really expand what is possible, having Remmick, Joan, Bert, Mary, Cornbread, and Stack all going out of their way to convert/kill the various patrons (and Bo) would be my way of handling it.

I don't know how they'll do I Lied to You, but given the importance of the scene I feel like they can't not do that moment.

I just feel like you can open with a scare-free I Lied To You scene before going right into vampire Mary and Stack to replicate the film's "no scares in the first half" structure.

Kinda feels like people are overthinking Sinners coming to the event. The movie being long, a slow build in the first half, and thematically-dense with material the designers probably wouldn’t touch is a problem that solves itself; you just pare things down to the horror elements. An effective house is one that’s environment, not narrative, first.

So, the question instead should be is there enough interesting material to cover a three minute walkthrough? Considering Sinners is cleaning up in technical nominations across the industry, probably.

Music and set design in the film are top notch and can translate well into interesting house environments, and while vampire costuming and makeup is simple, it has the benefit of being lightweight enough to allow the cast to be aggressive with scares and let their performance carry things. They’ve already solved the question of the Twins with the Us house in 2019.

Repetitive environments/scares could be a concern, but they’ve done more with less before like The Exorcist. Just for fun, I threw together some notes for a potential walkthrough, spoilers for the movie but I think it’s pretty straightforward:

  • Façade – Projection of woodcut animation explaining the music/vampire lore
  • Remmick at the couple’s house, vampire hunters as distraction with couple as victim scare
  • Hallway with Smokestack twins, double scare fakeout (it’s a jump but no actual scare like the cat lady from Trick R Treat) with audio clip narration introducing them
  • Open up to the woods/juke joint reveal, “picked poor robin clean” performance outside with Remmick and couple who lunge at you walking by
  • “I Lied To You”, mannequins to fill out room and some more fakeout jump scares (again, they pop out but its celebratory, not scary) the spirits of musicians
  • Back room of Mary Killing Stack as distraction, Smoke shooting as jumpscare
  • Hallway of Stack and Mary as vampires popping out (“we’re gonna kill all of you”), banging on doors
  • Exit to woods for Rocky Road to Dublin projection for dancers, Remmick, Cornbread and Bo jumpscares
  • Back inside, gauntlet of vampires vs. survivors (“Sammy!”)
  • Final projection of the sun with Sammy/Smoke
  • Exit scare of a rotating Stack/Mary in 90s clothing

For me, Sinners is a rare horror IP as something that’s popular, legitimately great, and reasonably adaptable. Could be great, and if not, there’s four other IP houses to carry the load instead. If if sucks it wouldn’t be the first time the headliner disappointed... so why not just give it a try anyway?

Agreed. Cabin in the Woods, for example, didn't dive deep into the first half of the movie with the road trip, the gas station, the goofing off in the cabin, etc. The house started with 2 of the 5 main characters already dead (Jules dead outside the house and Holden "dead" once you enter the house).

FNAF didn't have the opening with Mike getting fired, going to a career counselor, dealing with social services, etc. We skip straight to the pizzeria.

And so on. It's an HHN house. The movie is genuinely my favorite of 2025, but you can't be expecting a haunted house to deliver that same level of depth. It's going to transport you to the setting, bring the characters to life straight from the screen, and deliver a good time. Expecting it to reach the rich depths of the script is setting yourself up for disappointment IMO.

from dusk till dawn house was not a good house. it was repetitive. it was kinda boring. I wouldn't want that repeated with sinners.

sinners could have stuff to work with if they used every single part of their club including the rooms and second floor,
they also need to use the house of the family that gets attacked, the outdoors part of the club,

but I hope it is nothing like from dusk till dawn. that was just not good.

Funny enough from Dusk til Dawn is the only house I've seen someone have to bail on

When it was empty (which was common for it) and once the actors found their groove, it was an intense and entirely different experience - especially with things like the brothers running and shooting around your group

I think a lot has been developed in regards to designing around scaring a conga-line with the current crowds as opposed to 10+ years, but when it was experienced as what I would call 'intended' it actually slapped

I'd unironically argue HHN adapted the material better than the film did lol

there were other houses like Havoc that became amazing thanks to the actors, I remember that, people kinda hated havoc but after a while the actors let loose and found their groove, they were going crazy and it was amazing. really intense
( sometimes I like to enter houses wearing headphones with music playing, for havoc I remember using the song from 28 days later and it was extremely incredible. very amazing experience)

I can understand if that was your case with Dusk Till Dawn, but for me it was always mid to bad.
if anything, there were times when the house felt empty. just empty, the cave rooms were kinda boring to visit. it really felt bad on my visits.

sinners is definitely a movie that "SHOULD" be in hhn, the hype will be insane. the experience could be amazing.

but universal should really try to do a lot of different areas and different scenes. just completely different areas from beginning to end ( even in the night club it should feel different from room to room. )
I would be happy and excited if they do sinners, but gotta do it well.
