They finally did FNAF, which was the first HHN house based on a viral game covered by Youtubers. Now that they finally did it, it's time to take on the next Youtube viral game for HHN!

Speaking only for myself, I really find it tough to get into the nitty gritty of house reviews for a bunch of houses I've only done one time. That's enough for me to have broad impressions (is it good, is it bad, what worked, what didn't) but not really much more granular than that. But definitely agree with the sentiment. I used to take notes after the houses [when I was paid to write about them] and it's great to ... not have to do that anymore. But I'd like to participate more in those discussions than I typically do.

This is really all it comes down to. It's a lot different for locals vs non-locals.

Locals can get on here and say:
"I went through El Artista 8 times last night and I can confirm that Cast B is way more aggressive!"
"Just had my 10th run through of Hatchet and Chain and they've added 2 more effects in the 4th room!"

I was at Universal from 9/13 to 9/19 this year - so for me, effectively, HHN was over on 9/20. I simply have nothing to contribute for an event that's still going for a month and a half after I've left lol
These are completely valid takes. This past year myself, I honestly didn't have solid thoughts on the event until my 3rd or 4th night going, and because of it, I didn't really post any. I believe any theme park attraction can take some time to actually sink in, especially one as dense as an HHN haunt, and especially when you're experiencing 10 back-to-back-to-back. I still haven't posted everything about my Epic trips, and I also won't look in the House or Zone threads until I experience them for myself, as I'm also really sensitive to spoilers. I completely get this, and it's not what I'm really talking about.

Just to be totally clear; I don't want to come off as whatever the HHN niche hyperfan equivalent of "holier than thou" would be, or imply that any specific poster here has a duty to contribute to 28 pages of deep and thoughtful discussion on Masquerade: Dance with Death. Posting what I did before, I knew that would be a risk, but I do hope that's not the takeaway.

There is just such an outsized difference between the energy of the Spec threads to the confirmed ones. To an exponential level. A spec thread will have 300+ pages across 10 months; close to the same amount the Epic spec thread got across 6 years, and then the Zone of the Year winner Cat Lady of Crooked Lane won't have a single post from July to November.

I totally understand why the difference in energy is there, and it's totally fine to not enjoy reading about these attractions as much once they're open, but that's the energy difference that I'm talking about. There is such a big HHN community here, and there are a number of locals and people that go very consistently that post here too. I'm not expecting Spec thread-level page counts, but I would hope for more discussion than literally nothing for months.

With the possibility of Nightmare Fuel not coming back, I think it’s fun to speculate what a new show could look like.

I noticed it, too - but not because people are avoiding spoilers (because that's totally understandable). There's definitely a subsection that is all about the rumor discussion, and that's it. I'm not sure if it was this year, but posters have said, "OK, Spec season is over. Nothing else to talk about." That's where I think your point applies best.

For me at least, I think commenting and being on the message boards during speculation season is a really exciting part of the buildup to HHN season, and it makes it feel like there is a part of the event year round, which is really fun, because you can share excitement with other fans. Once the season begins, my focus turns towards enjoying the trips to attend, watching videos about the event, and talking about HHN live with friends and family. I do think those of us who mostly comment during spec season could be better contributors to the community by discussing during the event, and I'd like to do more of that next year, but I think it is a logical distinction - i.e., the event is the payoff that you can experience, and then return to talk and speculate once that is no longer an option!

Agreed, now there's no doubt that Cat Lady of Crooked Lane was a fantastic zone, but I feel they honestly got its milage from being a zone with a mini show -and- a mini outdoor house, and that's perfectly fine! I don't need to clamor for a house when the zone did its job to a T.

I don't know why y'all are paying more to see haunted houses when you can just ride cat in the hat and get just as many nightmares

I would love to see if they will make a original monsters house now they have seen how successful dark universe was

For me, at least, a Cat Lady house would be able to expand a bit and actually take you into the house (which I think could be interesting)

And it could function as the "classic Halloween" portion of the event again.

unless they want to bring the pumpkins back

Hi, everyone! Super excited for spec season again. This last year at HHN has been my favorite since the first time I attended the event with HHN 27. Been every year since.
My Spec:

Jack v. Oddfellow: No brainer after the Oddfellow logo appearance in El Artista. Anniversary house and they can add more Icons to choose sides between the two.

FNAF 2: Movie is going to be a hit, and Uni is going to want to reuse those animatronics.

Scream: Supposed to happen ten years ago, and the seventh movie is coming next year.

Hellraiser: Lot of spec and rumors about this coming. Would be such a gory, hardcore house.

Black Phone 2: Movie has been a hit, and I feel like this could function well on its own in a tent house. Grabber was at the event this year, so I feel like this could happen. Even a house with this and the first movie together.

Cat Lady: Zone of the year, and really could delve into more things, like going into the Cat Lady's house.

Ozzy tribute- Legacy hint.

Evil Dead Burn: Hollywood got Rise a few years ago, and Orlando was supposed to get it too. Feel like this would be an easy get for Uni.

ST5: Last season. Prior houses. Feel like this is a shoe in.

Hello everybody and happy spec season!

Here are some of my guesses as to what we might see this year:

1. Ozzy – It’s already been said, but man, talk about a dream come true house! I was always bummed I never got to experience Sabbath 13 3D, but this being an absolute love letter to the Prince of Darkness could be an all-timer for an absolutely legendary musician!

2. Scream – Possibly the biggest white whale the event hasn’t caught yet, but it feels like it’s finally time. Scream 7 releases next year and is rumored to feature multiple past killers, which makes it perfect for a “Jason Universe”-style house just with Ghostface!

3. Stranger Things 5 – The only way I don’t see this house happening is if Season 5 turns out to be a total train wreck, like Game of Thrones’ ending. The merch always sells, the fanbase is still massive, and most importantly it’s the last chance. It would be incredibly cool to see the show completed in house form, something neither The Walking Dead nor American Horror Story ever got to do.

4. Silent Hill – I’m less confident in this one and could easily swap it for Resident Evil, but I really think Silent Hill might finally return. Both coasts have expressed interest in bringing the IP back, and Konami has been pushing hard in recent years to reestablish the franchise. Silent Hill 2 Remake sold extremely well a few years ago, Silent Hill F just released and did great, and next year we have Return to Silent Hilland Silent Hill: Townfall on the way! Another reason I think it’s possible: we recently worked with Cineverse for the Terrifier franchise and Cineverse is also releasing Return to Silent Hill!

5. A Monster House – This is the one I’m least confident in, but with FanFest doing a Scooby-Doo x Universal Monsters experience and after the Scooby push at Volcano Bay this season, I can’t help but wonder if we’ll finally see the Mystery Gang appear. It seems like the perfect fit for a fun, spooky house in the vein of Ghostbusters or Beetlejuice! This could even be shared with Hollywood, reusing the FanFest attraction and amping up the scare factor for HHN. If not Scooby x Monsters, another idea could be del Toro’s Frankenstein especially if Netflix gives us Stranger Things 5. That would still give us a monster house without stepping on Dark Universe. Plus, the scenery in that film is incredible it would make for a beautiful house!

Original Houses

Since it’s an anniversary year, I really think we’ll see something on the level of HHN 25. HHN 30 unfortunately got disrupted by COVID, and that year wasn’t necessarily “canon,” more of a fun standalone event. For HHN 35, I could see Jack passing the torch to a new Icon, with familiar faces from all over the world showing up to try and earn that torch.

Original 1 – 35 Years of Horror Nights

A “best of” house featuring fan-favorite scenes from the past 35 years and icons from around the world like Hamikuma, Hollywood Harry, and the Killustrator!

Original 2 – Mel’s Die-In

This one’s a bit out there, but Mel’s has become more and more popular every year. A fun, 1950s café themed zombie house could be an absolute blast!

Original 3 – Vamp House

We’ve had so many Vamp scare zones over the years why not finally give it a Slaughter Sinema-style house, with each room representing a different decade?

These could be a great way to celebrate the anniversary without feeling like a total repeat of past years.

I also think it’s time for an 11th house. The crowds this year were insane, and with the anniversary being such a big year, it just makes sense to finally expand.

And one last thing a Nightmare Fuel replacement.

I’ll take anything at this point. So tired of the same show year after year!

Revenge of the Tooth Fairy comes to mind both thematically and in execution of the storybook playing out a la pages and narrator and satire. Not a bad idea, honestly.

I cannot stop obsessing over the idea that an Ozzy house might actually happen. I mean, I've been saying he should have a house since we went through the Alice Cooper house WAY back in 2012. I was like.. ok, Alice has a rep for this kind of thing, but Ozzy is the MASTER. Ozzy was such a huge part of my growing up - his solo debut album came out when I was a young teenager, and I've been a massive fan ever since. When he died, it felt like I lost a family member. To see him have what would now be a tribute house is an absolute dream come true.

I have so many wishes for this house:

Bark at the Moon (obviously) with some great werewolf scares
Mr. Crowley with all kinds of creepy devil stuff - maybe a demon or two for the scares
Diary of a Madman with lobotomized straight-jacketed lunatics coming after us
Scary Little Green Men with vicious aliens
Under the Graveyard - self-explanatory
Zombie Stomp - also self-explantory
Black Sabbath with a ton of dark themed ghouls and demons
Tons of bats everywhere and gothic themed rooms
Lots of sound effects using Ozzy's actual evil laugh
A giant Ozzy projection on his now famous black throne from Back to the Beginning to end it.

I mean, really, I could think about this and write a house treatment that would make the thing 20 minutes long. I really hope with all my heart that this isn't just a wishful rumor. I'll be watching the spec on this carefully.

Agreed that an Ozzy house would also go hard. Got to see Black Sabbath with Ozzy perform at the Hollywood Bowl back in 2014. Phenomenal concert.

If they do it I actually hope they go for a more goth approach, especially for the “Bark at the Moon” and “Diary of a Madman” segments. I always thought Diary of a Madman should be the music you hear in front of the facade, especially considering that the whole house should be about a diary of THE madman!

This is the year for an Ozzy house. I also want it to avenge the terrible Black Sabbath house Hollywood did many years ago. It needs to be dark and gothic in tone. Not a goofy 3D maze you would see at Knott’s Scary Farm in 2004.

They just had a 5-year run of Monster houses before taking a break this year. They're aware of its popularity and success.

See? Now a storybook house that features Cat Lady is a lot better than a full-on Cat Lady house IMO. Have Universal create its own tales for the house.

Then sell the book. $$$

Oh, if only there were an icon that could weave such tales....
