Unless you get remarkably identical lookalikes, Nikki kinda just looks like a random girl. Compared to someone like M3GAN, who has a recognizable costume, wig, height, mannerisms and poses; Nikki really has none of that.

I love Obsession to death, and I expect to see back-to-back ads for it all season in those house queues, but I just can't picture a way for it to work as an HHN offering.

Like what was being said earlier by Brian, I agree. There are quite a few successful horror pieces that just don’t need Haunt treatments, and some non-horror specific pieces that honestly could work rather well. Fallout the show is a good example and while Orlando’s house was just alright, Hollywood’s was very successful in my opinion.

Haunts work best when there’s strong iconography from a combination of sets, costumes, and characters. When I think back to HHN houses that didn’t work as well, they typically have less of these things. It’s one of the reasons why I’ve never really liked things like traditional slashers at the event (albeit the TCM house at Horror Unleashed is honestly very good). But most of the time with those, you just have the main slashers and then their “kills” for interest, but the sets can be hit or miss. And when you’re getting scared by the same character over and over again it just gets kinda dull. Freaky and Black Phone being combined was very smart and I feel like successful because it combated that issue a bit, but even then those are two properties I personally never would’ve chosen.

That all being said, definitely expect ads going to be playing like you said, maybe a photo area with a back drop, but highly doubtful a character.

Just came here to thank @Brian G. for always doing his best to keep the toxins out of this forum. I was rather shocked by the explosive post in question when I read it, and I couldn't believe that person wasn't already gone. There was nothign subtle about that attack (which was unfounded as well).

Obviously, there will be disagreements over various topics on a forum like this, but an all out assualt is unacceptable. So, thanks Brian.

Moving on - someone mentioned to me that it's possible Ozzy wasn't announced last week due to a merch delay? Is that even a thing? Just curious.

If I remember correctly, that's why the ST5 announcement earlier in the season was done the way it was, because they had set aside a day to announce it but they had to delay it because they didn't have the merch, and they just threw it out on a random day at a kind of random time. I think it was like 1 or 2 in the afternoon? I don't know if this is what happened to Ozzy. I guess we'll be able to tell if he gets the full treatment. Post the day before and then announced at 12PM EST for both coasts.

We don’t have a tips and tricks/review thread yet so I’m asking here:

Can anyone share some details about the non-private RIP tours?
* Cash bar I assume?
* Is the purchased start time when the group leaves La Bamba for the first house, or when you can start checking in?
* Can you check in at 6:30/park open and hang in the meeting area before your start time?
* Is the provided food enough to make a meal out of or is it like just chips and candy? Looking to see if we should eat dinner elsewhere that night and just nosh during RIP or if the RIP food is sufficient.
* What kind of food is offered?
* I know that the non-private tours won’t be as flexible as a private tour and that you’re at the mercy of the schedule the guide sets but is there a group discussion about highlights or like which NF show to go to?
* What’s a reasonable gratuity if needed for the guide?

Bought my first RIP in lieu of multinight tix and want to know what to expect. All I can find is blogspam slop that regurgitates the OU event description.

I’ve done it in Orlando once, last year, so I’ll try to explain it as best I can.

- Cash bar(s). Yep.
- It’s odd and a little confusing, so I’ll try to explain it (and I may be wrong). You can check into La Bamba before your purchased time to eat. The purchased time is when your tour CAN start. If I remember correctly, you can join groups after your purchased time if you eat a little longer.
- The light bites can be a small meal (or a repetitive large meal). They offer some of the signature booth food, plus salad and standard staples. It’s not chips and popcorn. They have 8-10 actual food options (including sweets).
- We eat a late lunch then nosh during RIP. That’s because we don’t know what the food options will be, but different strokes.
- My group didn’t discuss the order. I’ve done these non-private tours at different parks and there typically isn’t much (the only one we discussed anything was Singapore, and that question was if anyone wanted to ride a ride we were next to). Almost every group I’ve been in didn’t talk much at all. Singapore was more talkative, but it was way more international- Koreans, Americans, Australians, and Singaporeans. The guide ultimately determined the order, though. The lagoon show wasn’t included, and our Nightmare Fuel time felt kinda “locked” (which makes sense, as they have schedule it for all the tours).
- Gratuity- I still feel awful about that from last year. I only had a $20 cash on me because we forgot about it. The worst part was my wife and I were the only people who tipped at all. $20 was not enough, even from just us. This year we plan on tipping $50-$60 as the baseline. Partly because the Guides put in a shift, and partly because we suspect the vast majority don’t tip at all.

-Yes, cash bar. Sodas/water are included.
-Your start time is when you check in at La Bamba and you get assigned to the next available tour guide based on your group size.
-You get your credentials at the VIP area at the front of the park. I believe you can do that anytime after 6:30 and you can enter the park and roam around until your check in time.
-The food selection is decent. It's a buffet style and usually includes some of the HHN food offerings you see around the park. There are some YouTube videos where people show off the full selection. The big difference coming this year is the buffet reception will be some time in the middle of the tour and not before you join your group. So depending on what time your check-in is, you might not be eating for a while so maybe have a snack beforehand.
-From what I remember from my tour last year, the guide said he's told which direction to start and then he decides the rest of the way based on his knowledge of the pathways and always tries to do things efficiently. I believe the guides are also told which show to take their group to, but I could be mistaken.
-We tipped $20 per person in our group.

I think people are in love with the idea of a Backrooms or Obsession house more than the reality of what it'd actually be.

Obsession is pretty clearly playing with themes of consent and coercion, and draws a really uncomfortable parallel to rape/sexual abuse under the illusion of "love." Yes, Horror deals with pretty heavy stuff sometimes, but I think there's a difference between watching that play out in a movie and turning it into something you're supposed to walk through.

Remember, while Nikki is the aggressor for much of the movie, she's not the villain. Bear is... (I'll also allow Ian to take some blame, too). So I don't really know what the house is supposed to be. Are we supposed to be following Nikki while she's being manipulated? Are we just watching scenes play out? The movie wants you to empathize with Nikki, not fear her, so none of those really feel appropriate. The movie works because of those themes, but those same themes are exactly why I don't think it makes for a good haunted house.

I do think they'll want to bring it to HHN, in the form of a photo op, or maybe even some food or merch, but that should be the extent of it.

With Backrooms, I get why people bring it up. The setting is literally a maze.

But the horror of the Backrooms lies in the isolation: being completely alone in the endless liminal spaces, knowing something is there. The fear comes from the feeling of uncertainty while also being alone.

The biggest thing working against that at HHN is... HHN... You're in a conga line. You won't get that feeling of being alone, and without that, I think you lose the thing that makes Backrooms scary in the first place. It's more likely you'll get an original that plays off it to make it better suited for a HHN-style house.

Obsession reminds me of Get Out. 2 highly successful films that Universal has. 2 properties with themes that don’t translate well to a house.
